Colourpop No Filter Concealer Review (BTW – It has a huge filter)

Colourpop No Filter Concealer

I think for me one of the most exciting launches that Colourpop have done was their concealer – moving away form colours into base products was an exciting step forward for the brand. At the point of ordering the Colourpop No Filter Concealer I knew I wanted to try it, but didn’t really *need* any more concealer, but was also trying to top up an order to get a free palette instead of buying the one I wanted. Despite not needing one, I did excitedly crack the tube open straight away.

As I always do – starting with packaging, whilst Colourpop packaging has always been nice, they’re starting to up their game a little and move away from all white boxes. The box for this is a soft peach, with bold stripe detail down the sides with pretty rose chrome lettering. It’s still simple, but it has a touch of something that’s more flashy.

The packaging of this concealer is pretty chunky, surpisingly though ml for product size isn’t that high at 4ml… to put that in perspective the Bourjois Radiance Reveal concealer is almost half as small and has alsmot double the product (7.6ml). The concealer from arrival has always had huge air pockets showing at the side making it look as if the product hasn’t been fully filled or like the product could accommodate more product. The concealer comes in a heavy acrylic tube, it feels quality, but something about it looks basic – I think it’s the combo of white and silver, and the design would have been uplifted if they’d carried through the rose chrome to replace the silver and the beige to replace the white.

The concealer comes in 14 different shades, going up from 5 to 75. My Shade Beige 25 is the fifth lightest and looked perfect as a brightening under eye concealer based on the swatches on the site, as well as the complexion of the model they used it on.

The doe-foot applicator on this is large and flat on both sides with a rounded top, it picks up the product perfectly with ease, feels soft on the face with a lot of flex and bend. The product has high pigment and feels light on the skin, blending out with a sponge. It adds a lot of coverage whilst still feeling quite light on the skin, the finish of this is semi matte and it dries down quickly.

The big problem the Colourpop No Filter Concealer has is oxidisation and if you’ve been following me on instagram you’ll know this is a huge issue I’ve had. I had some people message me and say that their shade doesn’t oxidise, and then got back to me later on to say intact it does and they hadn’t noticed. This shade turns quite orange, and it does so super quickly, so quick I noticed the product starting to oxidise on the applicator before it even hits the skin. I had to be super quick to get the photos below, but just look at this when it’s swiped on the skin, the second block of it blended out turns this colour within 15 seconds.

I’m dark enough to get away with this colour as spot or extra coverage concealer, but as a brightening under eye concealer that I bought this shade for and signed up for it is not. I’d recommend going at least one shade lighter than you think you need if you want this to be brightening. At the moment this is quite often darker than the foundation I’m putting it on top of.

Over the past few weeks I have tested using it in place of a foundation, and it provides a decent semi-matte medium base if you want something really light then this does work and creates a nice looking base, for me with oily skin however I found that it’s longevity wasn’t great unless layered over foundation. Good alone for nipping out the house for a few hours, not for an all day base by itself if you’re oily.

I haven’t tried this concealer yet, but oxidisation is a major problem for me as I’m so pale! Still looks great on you, though!

Not sure what shade I have but I’ll have to check if it oxidises! I think mine is the lighter one so might get away with it!

Thanks for the review! I was thinking about trying it out, but I think now I’ll save my money. I’m so pale, it’s really hard for me to find a shade lighter than my foundation in the first place!

I’ve been wanting to try this, but I don’t like that it oxidizes. At least it’s affordable, so if it doesn’t work for me, I won’t be out too much!

Ugh, that oxidation is horrible! At least it still looks fine once you’ve applied it to your face, instead of you having a particularly orange undereye area and the places where you’ve spot-concealed.

On another note, how did you pick your shade – just by looking at swatches online? There are so many online-only base makeup products I would love to try, but I’m afraid of buying the wrong shade.

Yes they had swatches of the different shades and then a model for each of them, I felt like the model for that one seemed to be closest to mine.

I think if I was buying again I would go down two shades darker. I do like the formula – but just wish it was more brightening rather than general concealing!

Ugh I hate it when stuff like this oxidizes. That’s one reason why I hated the UD All Nighter foundation. I actually want to try the new concealer Makeup Revolution just launched.

Great review, I definitely want to try this.

Oh gosh it really does oxidise! Given I wear the palest shades already I’ll make sure to never order this for myself x

I have tried this but it oxidizes so badly on me even with the lightest shade making it too dark for me.

I still haven’t tried anything from Colourpop, I really want to and they are my “to try” brand in 2018, I think I would be too pale to wear this is it oxidises, great post xxxx

OMG oxidation! O_o Good point on the packaging. It bothers me sometimes when the packaging is all for show and there isn’t much product inside. But then again, when was the last time that I’ve panned a concealer? *LOL* The only thing that I’ve bought from colourpop was their liquid lip (matte and metallic). I’ve toyed with their site a few more times since, but never complete the transaction. **I am in low buy and now no buy any more~~ so much happier.
