Scent of Liu Jo Perfume Review

Scent of Liu Jo Perfume

The Scent of Liu Jo Perfume has had it’s fair few mentions over the past year on my blog, and if you saw my 2017 Beauty disappointments then you’ll know that this is unlikely to be the most twinkling of reviews as it featured there too. Whilst I was flying back from Milan back in September 2016, I smelt this at the airport and fell in love. I was all spent out for that trip and decided to research it when I was back and I ordered it in Spring last year through Amazon.

Liu Jo is a brand I only ever see in airports, I have a pair of sunglasses from the designer, and I believe the availability is a lot more mainstream across Europe, but in the UK, this isn’t a stocked brand or one I’ve really heard anything about. The brand is mostly a higher priced high street fashion brand from what I can tell, but they do have some accessories and perfumes which add to their line.

The packaging of this from the start is beautiful, this comes in a cardboard box that looks like bright lilac-pink leather and has the texture effect of leather too. This isn’t the most expensive brand when it comes to perfume – this 30ml bottle came in at around £25, so it’s in that middle of the road kind of market. But the packaging of this perfume I think is really beautiful for the price.

From the leather packaging opening it feels like a piece of jewellery, which only carries on through to the bottle. The cap of the bottle is adorned with a wrap around chain like design, in a gorgeous heavy gold metal lid, which wraps around the neck of the bottle which then trickles down the bottle as a solid bar until a beautiful gem swings off the end. Theres a small but delicate logo on the top left of the bottle, whilst the inside is filled with a pale pink fluid that overall looks really pretty, glitzy but not garish. Personally looking at the different bottle sizes of this I think the bottle actually looks best as a 30ml, all of the bars down the middle are the same length so it looks longest on this bottle. On this it looks like a long necklace adorning the bottle, on the larger bottles it almost looks like a belly button piercing, I can’t explain it! Just look it up if you’re interested!

The notes in the Scent of Liu Jo Perfume are are pretty well balanced perfume that doesn’t lean too far in any direction. This one has top notes of lemon, cardamom and violet, Mid notes of vanilla, fig and lily of the valley and base notes of musk, amber and sandalwood. On first sniff this is light and fresh, but as it settles down it starts to feel warmer, whilst still light. I really enjoy spritzing myself with this.

So how’d it end up in my disappointing products? Longevity, after two hours I feel like it’s all but gone unless I force any skin it’s come in contact with under my nose. Whilst at the price I shouldn’t and wouldn’t expect longevity as some of my more potent and expensive perfumes, I do expect that I should still be able to smell some trace of it by the end of a work day, but alas I can not.

The Scent of Liu Jo Perfume has become part of the first of my seasonal “products I’m trying to use up” series for 2018 (coming up this week) as over the past two years I’ve tried to declutter my perfume collection to only ones I love and can rely on, and sadly whilst I love this initially – it isn’t worth the cut.

It’s rare I actually have a perfume disappointment as I’d normally keep respritzing a perfume before committing to buying it – but when it was the case of this, I only had my initial airport reaction (which was totally justified) before a blind amazon purchase a few months later. I knew I had to like it enough to get home and add it to my Amazon Wishlist – it’s a shame in the long run it hasn’t worked out.

Have you blind bought a perfume and ended up disappointed?

well you definitely cant complain about that price tag can you!? and the bottle is totaaaally gorgeous.such a shame the scent doesn’t last long, but i do always think that about cheaper perfumes. my only ones that last literally days are really expensive!

No the price tag is not too bad, I just know even despite the price I’ve had other perfumes that have better longevity! Such a shame as otherwise it would probably have a permanent place in my collection! X

I haven’t heard of this before. The bottle is really pretty and it’s a good price for a perfume!

Never heard of the brand Liu Jo before! The packaging looks really chic and upscale. Too bad the longevity isn’t there – the notes sound good though.
I really try not to buy perfumes blind – my success rate has been dismal in that regard! :/
