This Works In Transit Camera Close Up Review

There’s been one product that really caught my eye this year from a beauty box and I’ve patiently had it waited whilst I cleared out all other primers I had half used. The This Works In Transit Camera Close Up came in the 2017 February Tili Box… yep I had that many half used primers i only started this in December.

Thisworks is a brand that I’ve never tried anything from in the past, but it’s a brand which I’ve generally only heard positive things about. With a name like Camera Close Up & the bold three in one claims is what left me particularly curious. Mask, Moisturiser & Primer – but could it really do it all?

The first thing that I wanted to investigate about this was price-point. I’m almost through deluxe size 20ml tube after using it for the best part of about four weeks as my day-to-day pre-makeup base. The full size of this is 40ml, so this would last roughly I’d guess between 8-10 weeks if used daily. It’s priced at £25.50 on the Beauty Bay Website, which for my pockets feels a little pricey for a primer I’d run through quite quickly, but if it finds a way to truly become a three in one then the price doesn’t feel so steep.

The directions tell you to apply the This Works In Transit Camera Close Up to clear skin and massage in until fully absorbed. Weirdly it’s labelled for adults only – which is a bit odd as to why a child might not be able to use what is essentially a moisturiser. The texture of this cream is a thick pastey cream that first off feels like it’s going to take a while to massage into the skin, but it does suprisingly massage in quite easily. You know that slightly clay mask feeling where it has a slight grainy texture, that’s how this feels to me as you rub it in.

I thought I’d evaluate each of it’s three-in-one qualities separately

Moisturise
I don’t like layering many products on my face pre-makeup. As an oily skinned gal I find it really easy for products to make my skin feel heavy and my skin get greasy feeling or looking faster. So the fact that this is a three in one is already a plus as there are less steps that need to be taken. For me as someone who really doesn’t like something really intense and heavy I like it and it does the job enough for me – it’s on the lighter end of the spectrum for hydration and if you were someone with dry skin I don’t feel like this would do enough.

Mask
I really struggle to know how to evaluate this as a mask – a pre-makeup mask feels like such an odd concept to me, but I guess the only way I can really evaluate is how I feel at the end of the day when I take my makeup off. I normally get into the shower and wash my face after work and it’s not often I can judge how my face feels after a cocktail of cleansers/cleansing balms have been smothered over my skin. So I evaluated my skin by removing my makeup with Micellar Water first for a good week or so. My gut feeling was my skin felt no different and no extra level of nourishment.

Primer
This was the biggest box it had to tick really – I can use a standalone moisturiser for my makeup, but if this didn’t prime it was going to be a bit of a dud. With a name like In Transit Camera Close Up, I had a certain expectation that this was going to be a perfecting “Camera Ready HD” pore filling, silicone feeling base but it just wasn’t. In terms of how it made my makeup apply on top of it, I felt like it was no nicer or better looking with our without this which was kind of disappointing. Pores had no visible difference with our without it, and neither did it brighten the skin or hide imperfections. Whatever way you look at it, I didn’t feel more camera ready.

I did however feel like the This Works In Transit Camera Close Up really helped with oil control – I was expecting over a few days this was going to be a product that I would want to layer with my MAC Oil Control Lotion, but actually I was happy with the longevity of Oil Control without.

Overall I like the This Works In Transit Camera Close Up however I feel as if for how much I needed versus what it actually did. I think maybe if you were on the normal-dry spectrum you might get more benefits out of the moisturiser and mask elements of this mask. But for oily skinned gals, personally I think this is a bit steep and there’s other products that work better and offer better value.

Have you found any multi-use skincare products?

I’ve had this in my collection for a while and I hope to try it soon. I never got how it could be a mask etc too. I’m just hoping it works as a decent primer at best for me😊 x

I think that’s the one it has to deliver on really, it feels like the primer is the main selling point and the other two are more arbitrary claims!

I had never tried anything from this brand before but then the other day I stayed at a hotel and they had various products from them in the bathroom. I used the soap, hand cream and body lotion and loved them all. I will definitely be buying some of these in the future and I really want to try this In Transit now too x
