Face Mask Friday #51 – Nip+Fab Glycolic Instant Fix Mask

Face Mask Friday #51 – Nip+Fab Glycolic Instant Fix Mask

I think this is my last post of 2017 – I haven’t quite decided yet, but I think I’m going to be taking a break all next week from the blog, I don’t have anything prepared and I have a busy weekend ahead and the last thing I need is trying to rush out some content. I think I’d rather slowly work on some posts for the new year, including my faves and flops for the past year. Either way my review of the Nip+Fab Glycolic Instant Fix Mask is likely to be my last Face Mask Friday post of the year.

The Nip+Fab Glycolic Fix range has been a recent addition to my skincare routine this year, I fell in love with their pads – and I’m about to start trialling the cleanser too which I’ve had for months and haven’t got round to trying. When I was in the Tesco close to my work (which is the biggest Tesco in the country and has a huge beauty department), I noticed that the Nip+Fab range was on clearance, most of the best deals had already been picked over and were out of stock, but when I spotted this mask for something like £5.40 I decided it was worth a try as I’d had such a good experience with the pads.

The first thing I ended up thinking about this was, it’s kinda small for a ‘full size mask’, but I think it’s down to the simplified tube packaging being very bulk free – because it’s a 50ml mask – so it is a decent size. The size of it also makes it good option for travelling if you maybe want to take something with you to take with you to use multiple times but a pot feels bulky. Also as it turned out this mask goes really far due to it’s texture (more on that later), but I’d make a guess that there’s over 20 uses at a minimum in here.

The Nip+Fab Glycolic Instant Fix Mask comes boxed and it feels luxe for a budget friendly mask – whilst I picked it up on the cheap on clearance, it’s full retail price is £12.95 – but it’s very rare that Nip+Fab can’t be found on sale. It’s on offer currently for £6.47 in Boots and is rarely as a range not on offer in Superdrug – when I picked my pads off the entire range was 60% off.

When I was researching the prices online for the mask – I was surprised to see that it had a bit of a iffy reputation with about a three star review across every site I saw it on. By this point I had already used the mask and I was surprised to see that, so leaves you knowing I thought it was either good, or bad – not in between.

The mask claims to do quite a few things, all of which ticked boxes for me. It’s an exfoliating peel  mask, I’m thinking about moving away from manual scrubs over the next year to purely chemical ones (I’ve read a lot about how they can cause micro-tears and encourage ageing), so anything that can aid in exfoliating is a winner. The mask features Evermat which claims to minimise pore size, reduces shine, refines skin tone – triple tick. Other ingredients included Amino Acid, which brightens skin, improves clarity and the evenness of skin tone, as well as Glycerin which helps with moisturising.

The texture of the mask is a clear gel, as you apply it to the skin it looks like you’ve coated your face in a glossy nail topcoat, and it feels quite sticky – this is one you’ll definitely want to have your hair scraped back as far as possible for as it wouldn’t take much for your hair to be coated in clear goo.

This stings the skin quite heavily, from what I’ve read this is quite a heavy dose of glycolic acid – what it suggested online is that you build up to leaving it on for 10 minutes, however I was in the dark and decided to stick it out. The first 5 minutes feels hot and quite comfortable, before the sensation starts to gently tingle out, during that time it does make the skin red, this is something you would want to do at the end of the day – or when you have nothing on as that sensation does take time to calm down.

After 10 minutes I rinse away and the stickiness of the gel mask didn’t make the job of doing so easy. And there was no noticeable effects of the mask when the skin dried off. My skin felt moderately more hydrated, but less so than what a decent moisturiser or serum would have done, it took so long for the redness to dry down it’s hard to notice the skin glowing as a before and after.

Where I noticed a huge difference? Oil Control – holy potato, I waved good bye to an oily T-Zone, foundations that would usually break down quite quickly and wouldn’t wear all day ended up staying all day long. I was genuinely staggered at the difference it made – even without my MAC Oil Control Primer. What I found even more staggering is how many days it lasted before I noticed my skin getting oily again.

I’ve been using the Nip+Fab Glycolic Instant Fix Mask for a few weeks now and I’m sure you will notice the scarring on my cheeks from my Fenty Foundation breakout from late October – my skin is still trying to recover. I’m hoping over time it might aid the fading of them as I opt to use it for oil control more than anything – but certainly in 2 weeks I don’t feel like it’s making a noticeable difference in the short term.

I don’t necessarily think the Nip+Fab Glycolic Instant Fix Mask is for everyone, but given my experience I think it’s definitely worth a try if you have oily skin. I’ve not found a mask yet which has had such prolonged oil control effects.

Oooo this sounds great, my oily t-zone would love this! Was it on clearance because its being discontinued or just cos Tesco’s aren’t carrying it anymore? I hope I can pick it up in the summer! Did I tell you I went MAC counter hopping for the Oil Control Primer only to find out they don’t do it here in Thailand 🙁 Missing a trick there MAC!!! x

I love this range form Nip & Fab but totally agree – it makes my skin SO red afterwards but doesn’t feel irritated!
I’m so annoyed the Fenty foundation broke you out since we spent so long bloody long queuing for it 😂 xxx

With normal skin what effect do you find it gives you?
Me too, I’m so surprised at how long it’s taking to heal properly, I don’t think it’s going to fully recover until my skin sees some sunshine!

It doesn’t seem to mattify my skin but has helped reduced texture and it just looks generally smoother!

That mask sounds really good. I always struggle with oily skin and that mask would be super helpful.

Ooh this sounds good. I have combination skin but I get oily throughout the day fast! This could be for me😊 Have you tried Bio Oil for the scars? Could help if you use it nightly as it helped fade scars I had x

I’ve heard really great things about these products! I used to use their glycolic pads, and that kind of reminds me that I’d love to pick up some more! They are so so good.

I was going to buy this when it was on sale but I googled reviews while at the store and people seemed to not like it so I put it back on the shelf!
The sting doesn’t bother me much – with AHA I usually expect it as long as it subsides. Impressive that it worked so well for you in terms of oil control – I hope it helps with the scarring in the long run!

I’ve got dry skin so not sure this is right for me – but I am going to have a stalk of all your face mask posts now as I need to find a new one! That’s also annoying to hear you had a breakout from Fenty Foundation – I was just thinking of getting one of them myself!

Oooooh, this sounds like a must-try for me due to it’s oil control properties. I don’t generally love gel masks but, hey, I’ll do whatever I have to to get shine and oil under control!
