Remember When… // Thoughtful Christmas with Notonthehighstreet

When Notonthehighstreet invited me to take part in their campaign to find a thoughtful Christmas present for a loved one and I started taking a look through their some of what they had on offer there was one particular present that I was immediately drawn to…Notonthehighstreet.com

The Remember When… candle from Lily Belle immediately filled me with memories and apart from Ben (who I would struggle to keep this hidden from until Christmas), I was next drawn to my sister, Becca. Now we’re not officially doing Christmas presents for each  other this year – we’re going to London in June next year as they boys have won a competition to play at Wembley – so we’re making a weekend of it an we’re off to see a show, stay over and have some tasty grub somewhere instead. But when I saw this candle I thought I could include it as an unofficial Christmas treat as a thank you for everything she did for me this year as my Bridesmaid, including help me and Ben make 100 handmade candles as wedding favours and I’m sure she’ll be glad this is a candle she didn’t have to make.

Beginning a sentence of ‘Remember When…’ instantly gives me about 100 choices but there’s always one particular moment from our childhood that perpetually gets brought up in almost every scenario possible – it was even in my Dad’s Father of the Bride speech at my wedding.

‘Remember When… You Said I Wouldn’t Dare Push You In the pond & I Did?’

In our childhood home we didn’t have a huge garden – but it was enough for us to run around like lunatics, put our cats in pushchairs and blankets and cause a lot of noise and havoc. In the corner of our garden we had a small pond with waterfall and on one particular afternoon we were chasing each other around in circles and ended up precariously balanced over the edge of the pond, Becca stood ahead of me, whilst I stood behind.

I said something along the lines of “I’m going to push you in”, she said something along the lines of “You wouldn’t dare” – and well daring me not do something is pretty much a seal of my fate as I’m always willing to prove someone wrong, and in this moment unfortunately that came at Becca’s expense.

Before we knew it she was fully clothed and drenched top to toe in pretty nasty pond water, just before we were due to go to the swimming pool to which our parents then refused to let us go and led to bitter disappointment and me being annoyed that we weren’t allowed to go and do my favourite activity (not that I wanted to go take a dip in our pond either for the record).

I chose the candle because I’m hoping it will make her chuckle (as well as maybe an eye roll) seeing it flicker with the light, and when it’s all been used up she’ll maybe choose to keep it is a pot for makeup brushes or storing things in. If she wants a constant reminder forever. Something I’m sure she’ll get whether she wants it or not.

The seller of the candle was Lily Belle, they had a choice of different colours and scents, I opted for the Black candle as I thought it would look the nicest in my sisters living room which is Teal and Grey and would also show my loving message the best when lit. The black candle is Amber and Vanilla scented and smells lovely and warming, with a “Christmassy” vibe to it. You can choose whether to have a lid, with Choices of copper and silver, I opted for copper as I know she has some copper accents in her room and I had it inscribed on the top as “To My Sister…”.

Overall I think this is a lovely gift to remind family and friends of moments that they might normally forget but will often send you giggling with a private joke or long forgotten memory. The candle itself arrived beautifully packaged in a lovely box and I’ll certainly be baring Lily Belle candles in mind for future gifts.  You can find this candle here, and they do several other similar style candles – Starting from £29, I think they’re a very reasonable for the quality that you get. Notonthehighstreet is the perfect place to find a thoughtful and personalised gift for a love one for birthdays and Christmas.

OMG you pushed your sister in the dirty pond? You bully!!! 😛 This candle will not make up for it! She’s scarred for life, poor thing. 😮 😆
That said, this is a great customized gift to give to someone who might already “have everything” or not want a typical commercial gift.

She was often the girl who cried wolf, she probably deserved it 😂
Definitely memory gifts are some of my favourites to receive!
