Five New In for Face Base

Seen as my first post of these ‘New In The Shower Room‘ went down really well with you as a concept I thought it would be a great time to do another one of these with my face products as I’m starting afresh with a lot of base products – my empties are out of control this month!

Collection Primer and Ready Mattifying Pore Minimiser

My friend Sophie gave this to me after she had tried it and it was too dry for her skin, but being oily meant that I wanted to see if it was any good for me. I’ve only used this a handful of times so far but so far I’m  quite liking it, it really reminds me of The Body Shop Instablur Primer but with a slightly wetter texture, it does really blur the pores but I’ve not really tried this out for any long term day wear as of yet, so I’ll report back on this later, so far, so good though and it’s looking promising.

LA Girl Pro Coverage HD Foundation

Another donation from my friend Lora who found this way too dark for her – on my picture it looks slightly paler than it is in real life and it’s the lightest shade – Fair, and I can only just get away with wearing it. Lora had known I really wanted to to try this as it’s supposedly a dupe for the Makeup Forever HD Foundation and that’s a foundation I’ve really gotten along with. I will say – they’re not similar at all, this is a lot more liquidy and this is much more of a satin, glowy finish – neither of which are a bad thing as so far I’ve been impressed at how well this has worn. Normally glowy foundations have red flags for me with an oily complexion but this one has proved it can hold up all day with decent coverage. One thing I have to comment on is the scent, this bloody reeks of aniseed and alcohol, it’s worth overlooking though because the finish is gorgeous. Once I’ve had chance to try it for a few more weeks I’ll post an update but so far I’m impressed.

Seventeen Stay Time Concealer

I bought this in a bit of a “I heard several people freaking out on Twitter that this was being discontinued” panic – after well, people had heard it was being discontinued and it was supposedly groundbreaking. I managed to find two tubes and I snagged them up, of course to find that nope they weren’t being discontinued just that Seventeen is going through another billionth rebrand/repackaging so items were just starting to appear as out of stock and were temporarily not being restocked.

I finally cracked it out last week after running out of my trusted favourite Bourjois Radianace Reveal, and all I can say is meh. It’s okay, but the applicator itself is pretty scratchy feeling, I’m used to something plush feeling where as this is quite flat. I don’t find that it’s as fresh looking on the skin and it’s very easy to blend it away and need to add a second layer. I’m not ready to write this off quite yet, but either way I don’t think I would have missed out had I not managed to snag a tube or two and it had been discontinued…

Studio 10 Double Ended Brow Pencil

Since Gimme Brow has disappeared from shelves for the time being and I’ve finished my stash of them all up I’ve been turning to the other things in my collection to try and use them up while I patiently recheck the Boots site almost daily. This is a double ended pencil and it’s the perfect ashy brown shade for me, I like the formula it’s quite a hard pencil which I quite like as it helps me create defined strokes. The concealer I really end I’ve not really used all that often yet because the whole over carved out brow thing isn’t really by bag – but it’s handy for cleanup.

Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette

Lastly – how I hadn’t tried this cult favourite before I don’t know, but I’m glad to have it now. This is a little chalky feeling, but the shine and glow are intense. There’s three powder shades and one cream shade, I’m not huge on cream shades but this one is quite nice to create a sticky layer for if you want to create something intense. The three powders all have slight hues to them, a yellow – which pays off subtly tinted golden lemon, and the peach and lavender shades which have just the right amount of hue without being OTT. I can see why people really like this palette, the one thing I’m not keen on is the size of the pans I find it a little hard to get my preferred fluffy brush into them without accidentally skipping over to a different shade.

So there’s my five new base picks, let me know if you’ve tried any of these and if there’s anything new base wise you’ve been trying lately in the comments!

I was curious about that LA Girl foundation but Eww, aniseed and alcohol – why is that even a scent combo for foundation?
I received another version of the Sleek Highlighting Palette (Cleopatra’s Kiss) and still haven’t opened it! I might use some of the shades as eye shadows…

I don’t know it took me a few days before I managed to pinpoint the aniseed! I think cleopatras kiss is gorgeous shades I know two of them are creams I think though aren’t they?

My friend gave me it and she said she only bought it in summer, and she didn’t open to recently so it shouldn’t be! Maybe there’s something weird with different shades!
