Testing Primark’s Shadow Shields

Testing Primark’s Shadow Shields

One thing I’ve wanted to get for a long time is some Shadow Shields, but for the novice makeup lover, who just wants to play – they’re pretty damn pricey. Now I know what you’re thinking… use tape, and I’ve tried and I’ve never seemed to be able to get it right in the past, nor does it feel particularly comfortable on the face, so when I saw that Primark had started doing their own version of them, I requested that my friends all went out on a hunt for them and I ended up with a couple of packets to play with.

The Primark Shadow Shields packs contains 30 shields in two varying shapes. one is longer with a softer curve, whilst the other is shorter in length and more pronounced. I’ve not found that either particularly make a huge difference on my eye shape in terms of the looks that it creates, but I imagine having two options if you have a particularly difficult eye shape then these are a good option. At £1.50 for a pack of 30 they’re much more affordable than the real thing – which are £7.50 for the same sized pack.

These are good for if you’re prone to getting eyeshadow everywhere, working with dark pigments that can be hard to clear up as well as glitters which are prone to sticking to your face no matter how many times you go over them. Why did I want them? To see if they could help this rookie create a winged liner. Something I’ve only ever successfully done once.

These come as a fabric oval sticker, which has a half and half split down the back, which thankfully is easy to peel back and won’t leave you frustrated. now the traditional way to wear these is to only peel back one side and leave the other flapped up to catch any pigment, I think that works well doing makeup on other people, but on yourself it feels in the way. The sticker side of this is very sticky and I’ve found applying straight to the eye can mean that it pulls quite heavily when removing, it isn’t painful but there’s definite resistance. I’m at the grand old age of almost 28, and I don’t like pulling at my eye area and distressing it as much as I possibly can, so I stick this on the back of my hand, peel it off and put it back twice before I put it on my eye area. This creates the perfect about of stick that it’s not half hanging off, and I can’t create a crisp line, whilst also taking the tackiness away enough that it’s not left me feeling like I’m attempting to wax my under eye area.

When blending shadows out these don’t feel like they’re in the way, brushes glide over the fabric easily and are easily manouvered around. I’ve tried a few different liners with this in the bid to find one that will help me create the perfect wing, and so far a liquid pen is my favourite – mainly because gel does work, however I’ve lost my good liner brush and it’s more i’m finding my brush is getting too clogged up to create a crisp line.

When peeled away this does create a perfect, crisp line both of shadows and of liner. I personally prefer a more softly blended edge when it comes to shadows, but it’s difficult to do both – I’d almost prefer to put my shadow on first, apply this then use it to mark out my liner, but any shadow blended out underneath is going to be lifted straight back off, or atleast in part.

I actually think the Primark Shadow Shields are really good for the price and they’re definitely something I think I’ll use frequently going forward – I think these definitely create a more ‘done’, almost more formal looking eye look. I haven’t forayed too much into Primark’s beauty range yet, mainly because my local store has a terribly stocked beauty section to most and I can never find anything I’m looking for in there so I give up looking at anything they do have on offer. But I’m glad I picked up two packs of these, and I will be well stocking up when I come across them again.

Have you tried Shadow Shields in the past?

I’m telling you, Primark has some awesome stuff. I did a post recently on some of their cosmetic / beauty accessories. So many dupes !

I know they do, my Primark just doesn’t seem to have the same selection as everywhere else though! I know they’ve got some gorgeous glitter palettes and brush sets which are just no where to be seen in my local stores!

That’s what I posted on 🤩 I am in Amsterdam. My Primark is a little too busy tho. I wish we had a calmer one.

I’ve only started trying Primark beauty recently as the stock near me is so bad. I’ve seen these shields before from other places but they seemed expensive and I didn’t know how good they’d be. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for them in Primark as I do like the crisper edge, or at least having that as an option.

I think the option is definitely nice to have! Glad to know I don’t have the only terribly stocked store in the UK! I know they have better stuff out there it’s just never in my Primark!

That’s a good tip about de-tacking the sticker – they really shouldn’t have made them so tack especially for the under eye area! But, I guess they’re so inexpensive, what can you expect?
I’ve never tried Shadow Shields before as I always do my eye makeup first, before any face / concealer. If I experience fall down, I just wipe off with micellar water.
