Stila Major Major Lash Mascara Review

Stila Major Major Lash Mascara Review

If you saw my haul on Tuesday, you’ll know that I’m currently going through a current love affair with Stila, so I was really happy to have a mascara turn up as part of my Look Incredible subscription a few months back, as I flitted my way through all my open mascaras and managed to get them cleared down to needing to start a fresh one, the Stila Major Major Lash Mascara was my natural go to from the pile.

This comes packaged in classic Stila cardboard packaging which they seem to be starting to move away from the kraft paper look into a slicker subdued champagne gold – at least in the case of the magnificent metals and the liner, I wonder whether this is too being repacked which is how it ended up in a beauty box.

The packaging is quite simple in a silver tube with a chrome lid, I do think Stila seem to be evolving more as a brand and this now feels a bit outdated in their line, it’s nothing special for £15, but there’s nothing too much to complain about either.

In terms of the wand this looks like everything I normally look for at in a wand, with packed with hair bristles, the wand isn’t too awkwardly small and large and fits around the eye area well with a slight tapered end. However this is also where the problems start, the bristles are almost too densely packed so I feel like I struggle to get product onto my wand. I’m always keen to not write a mascara off straight away (nor am I keen to rave about it) as a formula can change after a week or two once it’s got some air into it – but I’m now three weeks into using this daily and I’m still struggling to get product onto the brush, as a result, I find the look it creates on the eye slightly underwhelming.

The texture of the mascara is kinda dry, something I normally quite like but I think the combination of the bristle density and formula texture don’t match up. The black pigment in it isn’t very intense and zooming into the images below I felt that it looked kinda off-black or even closer to charcoal.

Major Major lash to me, sounds like it should encompass everything – maybe it’s just me because it’s what I want in a mascara – but to me I was thinking it was going to be majorly volumising, which it isn’t. Majorly Lengthening? Nope, it’s not that either. Though the day it lasts okay, but it does deteriorate between me applying it in the morning and me getting back home. In conclusion, what it’s “major” at I’m really not sure.

One thing I have noticed over the past few weeks, which there have been a few emotional moments in thanks to some family things going on. In those moments they’ve made the slightest watery eye burn like crazy. The first few times that it happened I couldn’t pin point it on this mascara necessarily, however there have been times where I’ve only had this on my eye since so I know full well this is turning me from a little wet eye of sadness, where I might normally squeeze on tear out, to a full blown “oh my god my eyes are on fire” streaming-mess. I don’t have sensitive eyes, so if you do, I don’t recommend.

Eye Look Using the Mascara
I’m fully aware that my brows need doing – I’m having HD brows done this weekend.

The lack of super black pigment, little-to-no volume or length, puts this mascara as majorly average. For your money (£15) there’s a lot better in my opinion.

Let me know if you’ve tried the Stila Major Major Lash Mascara, or any other Stila Mascaras in the comments.

Life is too short for disappointing mascaras. What foundation are you using because your skin looks flawless?! xx

I think it was Illamasqua Skin Base in these pictures – it looks amazing but not for very long on me breaks down quite quickly on my oily skin!

These pictures are so lovely! And your eye makeup is to die for! What is the purple glitter shade? X

Aaw it’s a shame it’s not great, £15 is quite a lot! At least you got it in a beauty box. I noticed the packagings changing. The old cardboard was a bit quirky but but cheap looking x

O man~ 15 squid for this underwhelming mascara. Come to think about it, I have never bought and keep anything from Stila. I recall buying their Christmas blush/lip trio, but returned them because they’re made in China.
