Boots Botanics Hibiscus Skincare – Face Scrub & Micellar Cleanser Review

Boots Botanics Hibiscus Skincare

I know for a long time that the Botanics Skincare line from Boots was meant to be amazing, but the old packaging of the line meant that it never caught my eye in the shops, so I never got around to trying anything. When I saw a beautiful new stand when the line relaunched featuring all the sleekly redesigned bottles and packaging I was sold, and picked up two items on a buy one get one 50% off introductory offer, opting for two items from the Boots Botanics Hibiscus Skincare Line, the Micellar Cleansing Solution and the Purifying Face Scrub.

So let’s start with the basics of the line, and that’s the revamped packaging – the new labelling is very sleek and clean looking but with a pop of blush and rose for the brightening hibiscus line, blue for the moisture line, purple for the ageing and a green for the 100% organic line. Each mini range isn’t huge, but they’ve got something for most skin-types. The packaging itself is pretty basic and budget line feeling, but the labelling helps give it a big boost and feel modern. As always I’m sad to see there’s not a oily specific line, there’s so many people who suffer with oily skin and it would be great to see high street ranges tackling that an issue. But even without taking the specific ranges into consideration they cover everything from the basics to facial oils at a budget friendly price too. Given the range is a Boots’ own, that means it’s regularly on offer too, and spoiler alert I like both of these products and have plans to pick up more from the range (the current offer that’s running as I write this is 30% off).

All Bright Micellar 3 In 1 Cleansing Solution

It takes a lot for something to impress me as much as my Garnier Micellar water does, that’s my old faithful, always available on sale in either Boots or Superdrug, and nothing has come close for taking over it’s place. Until I met this.

I had to question what the three in one qualities of this particular product were – the website gives no clue as to what they actually are. This is a Micellar water mixed with a very low dosage of Benzoic acid, an AHA which is where the brightening claims of the line come from. This is something that’s not really made that clear on the packaging itself and for the first few times I was using this on my eyes which was creating a mild stinging on the eye. There are lots of Micellar Waters that I find irritating on the eyes and I wrote this off as one of them until I’d read that it had an AHA in it, I normally don’t need to worry about a drop of Garnier’s Micellar Water tricking in, but with this I had to be very careful with my removal of makeup around my eye. I found I was able to use it on the eye area to remove mascara, eyeshadow etc, I just had to be careful to make sure that the pad wasn’t heavily doused in product.

I found this removed makeup well and I did feel like it was very subtley brightening the skin over time. I think if full strength AHAs are too harsh for your skin this might be a good mild product to start off with. The one thing I don’t like about the product is that it has no control for quantity, it’s one big hole when you take off that cap and there’s no flip top cap to minimise excessive product being spilt over.

At £5.49 (at full price), it’s a smaller bottle than Garnier but I did find that it lasted me a decent chunk of time. It’s now sat in my empties but I would repurchase this again, I think if I ever couldn’t find Garnier on offer, or this was on offer I’d consider choosing this.

Boots Botanics Hibiscus Skincare – All Bright Purifying Face Scrub

When it comes to face scrubs I know what I like for sure, I like scrubs to be effective and not require to much manual work, too many uses a week and I also don’t like them to be too harsh on the skin. Basically I want the best of all worlds, and this scrub delivers that.

The packaging of this just like the Micellar water is basic, but this time the flip top lid allows you to properly squeeze out the right amount of product. The scrub itself is made up of Apricot Seed, Walnut and Shell Powder which gives the scrub a great mixture of different sized scrub particles to buff away flakes, dry patches, and dead skin cells to make the skin smooth. The shell scrubs are suspended in a thick cream which soothes the skin and stops the scrub from feeling too scratchy and harsh and instead leaves a nourishing and moisturising like effect in it’s path.

The ratio of creaminess to scrub is perfect for me, it’s not type type of scrub that melts down like a sugar scrub which means you can really work it in the skin without having to use too much product at a time, the little whip above is about twice as much as what I actually find that I need.

I’ve been using this two-three times a week and I found that it’s really helped clear up the flakiness of spots healing that I was suffering with after #FentyFoundationBreakout2k17. I think this will suit most skin-types, those with drier or flakier skins might have to reach for it more frequently as the scrub isn’t very dense, whilst it is effective, but the creamy nourishing base will help add moisture back into the skin at the same time and will aid in improving softness and smoothness.

Both of the Boots Botanics Hibiscus Skincare products at full price come in at £5.49 and both of them have left me thoroughly impressed and intrigued to try more from the brand. I think this is a fantastic budget friendly line which seems to have a good range across most products and that leaves me intrigued to find more gems in the collection.

I tried some things from the Botanics range a while ago, before the packaging revamp. I had an illuminating balm and absolutely loved it so have been meaning to pick up some more things. I really like the sound of the micellar water xx

I miss having access to Boots brands! For some reason we still have No. 7, but that’s it.
Ouch, AHA around the eyes – got to be careful!
And oh no, the Fenty foundation broke you out that badly?

Most painful breakout I’ve ever had, cheeks were oozing without me having to touch them, it was awful!
I know I’m really surprised it wasn’t obvious that they didn’t make it more obvious it had aha in it! Micellar you think it’s safe to use everywhere without reading the ingredients!

I think most of the time they keep it hidden out the way! Definitely the old white packaging was something that never caught my eye or made me inspired to try!

Oh I swore by that micellar water for ages! It honestly worked better for me than bioderma or garnier, you’ve actually reminded me I should really repurchase it! Loved reading this xx

Thanks Noha! I really like it on the face but I’m scared too use it too heavily on the eyes! I’d use it alongside Garnier that’s for sure!

The updated packaging definitely looks much sleeker and modern, I’ve seen it in store recently whereas I can’t say I’d ever really noticed the line in the past! .xo
