Six Products I’m Loving and Three That I’m Not

Six Products I’m Loving and Three That I’m Not

I posted a similar post back in spring of these and it’s been one of my favourite posts I’ve worked on all year. I don’t do proper favourites very often as I find the things I’m really loving don’t change all that much espcially as I’ve had a year focussed on using stuff up and decluttering I’ve not chopped and changed to new things regularly,  but I now have a different selection of products that have impressed me as I’ve put them to the test. Equally there’s been a bunch of products that have left me disappointed.

Products I’m Loving

Impulse Purple Petals and Smoky Sky Body Mist
Impulse have recently launched a selection of new fluid body sprays, I’ll admit that the scent names of these are pretty questionable, there’s one which is called Whipped Cream and Microchip… yes you read that right. I couldn’t bring myself to buy that because it sounded so ridiculous, but I did really like the scent of this one. I realised just how much it’s impressed me as I don’t think I’ve reached for a proper perfume since I bought it. It definitely has a more sophisticated scent than their aerosol sprays and the packaging of the line is nice and eye-catching too. These aren’t as cheap as you might think, I grabbed mine on a half price introductory offer which is now over – but they’re £7.99 which strikes me as a lot for Impulse as a brand.

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlight in Fire Crystal
The review on this was only put up earlier this week, out of the two shades you can see the shade on the right is the one which has definitely had the most love so far. If you’ve read that review you might have remembered me saying that the texture was almost creamy feeling and as I’m using it more I’ve noticed that it’s wearing in the pan more like a cream too, very odd. The shade on the right is the one which is a favourite out of the two, it’s very, very glossy without having too much of a colour tint to it.

Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation (review)
I’ve had this in my collection since February and it proved to be a real saviour after the Fenty Foundation broke me out so badly. The formula of this is light and breathable but also has good coverage so it was doing a good job of hiding my blemishes and breakouts without making the dry-ness of said spots

Magntione Blend Up Brush (review)
Well, I’d never have expected to fall in love with a brush as much as I have done, this is a good brush without using the sonic functionaity, with the sonic switched on it’s even better. It blends easily and gives an amazing finish to foundation. It holds a charge really well and is really easy to clean.

MAC Oil Control Lotion (review)
I can’t believe I didn’t know this existed until just a few months ago, I don’t know where I’d be without it now, It doesn’t leave me with a greasy t-zone through the day and foundation stays on much longer. I can’t see me wanting to be apart from this for quite some time, I’m almost at the end of this tube, I’m down to ‘matifiante’ text now and within the next few weeks I’ll have to pop to MAC and buy another.

Pureology Strength Curl Shampoo and Conditioner (review)
I don’t think I’ve seen such an instant change to my hair with a shampoo and conditioner, and never did I actually envisage myself actually splashing out on the full sizes once I’d used up the trial sizes I got in the ASOS Beauty Box . I’ve just had my hair freshly cut and these are waiting in the wings for the next few months to protect against damage.

Products I’m Not

Lee Stafford CoCo Loco Light Serum Spray
Over the past six months I’ve been trying to use up two different oils and sprays, and did a good job of exclusively using them and getting them fishished. When I rummaged through my drawer for something ro replace it in my routine this was what I immediately gravitated towards. The Coco Loco Genius Lotion is one of my all time favourite hair products so I had high hopes for this, it smells amazing but that’s where the good news stops. I don’t find this as effective as a normal serum, infact I really struggle to see what it’s doing – not only that but have you seen how close to empty this is? It’s almost empty after a month!

Coastal Scents Fall Festival Palette (review)
One I got in my Look Incredible box in September and I was so excited about, and only reviewed yesterday – the colours were right up my street and I was so excited once I’d finally got it photographed so I could start using it. I’ve been putting it to the test for the past few weeks and I’ve not been impressed with how it blends at all, which is so sad as it swathes beautifully. I’ll have a review going up on this shortly

Tarte Lights Camera Lashes Mascara & Opening Act
One of my standout products of the year so far was the Tarte Tarteist mascara and I had such high hopes for the Lights Camera Lashes one. I won’t talk too much about it now as I’ll have a full review of this coming but boy, this is one overrated mascara IMO, it’s hard work to layer it up to get volume and length amongst other problems too. The other end,  Opening Act is a lash primer and so far I prefer the mascara without the primer… great performance all round!

There’s definitely been more hits than failures recently which is always a better way round to have it! Let me know if you’ve tried any of these and whether they were a love or a hate for you!

I can’t believe how quickly you’re wearing through the fenty highlighter! I used skinbase for the time in ages and although I love the finish, I hate the packaging! It’s so difficult to get product out! Xx

I think because it’s such a creamy powder it’s almost all getting pushed up to the sides, I don’t feel like it’s actually getting used that quickly I think it’s just moving in the pan!
A foundation we both like!? What is this! I hate the packaging of it too, when it gets to being low it’s going to waste a lot of product!

I’m not a big fan of lee Stafford products, not sure what the fuss is about 🙈

Most of the range I adore, the hair growth shampoo and conditioner are fantastic for making my hair really shiny! Some products just fall flat for me though, their either one way or the other, mostly great but the ones which are bad really let the team down!!

I like posts like this, it’s fun to see what works and what you’ve been loving as well as what you haven’t. The foundation and MAC oil control lotion sound amazing!

Me too, I don’t do favourites very often and think it’s always good to mention a few things that you haven’t been impressed by too! So in love with the Oil Control Lotion, it’s been missing in my life!

I need that oil control product in my lifeeeeee

I need to get my hands on some fenty already!

Totally recommend getting to a counter if you can do to look! Some of what I thought I’d love wasn’t the right colour for me in person!

I haven’t bought or tried anything from Fenty yet. I’m trying not to get caught up in the hype over a new brand from a celebrity lol. Xx

I only ended up getting wrapped up in the launch as I heard the foundation was great for oily skin, couldn’t care less that it’s Rihanna’s line don’t like her music!

I have more dryer skin so I didn’t think it was going to work for me lol

I’m so sad that you don’t like the tarte mascara! It’s my favorite

It sucks when we have high hopes for a product and they disappoint us. I keep seeing so many positive reviews of the Fenty highlighters, I’ll have to go to the store to swatch them and see what they’re all about!

Impulse body mists are £7.99 now???! I suddenly feel very old. I remember when me and the girls used to use them during our high school days (it was like the thing) and though I can’t remember the exact price, don’t think it was more than £3.

So sad to hear that the Fenty foundation broke you out – hope you’re recovering okay from it? It doesn’t happen very often with me but I hate it when products make your skin worse off.

Hmm, I’m intrigued by the MAC oil control lotion. I’ve never tried any of their skincare products.

The aerosol cans are still cheap, but the new ones are £7.99! I completely agree though when I saw it I was like how much for Impulse? The bottles are pretty hefty though and the scent is more sophisticated!

My skin is finally over the fenty breakout in terms of new spots brewing and dryness, I do have some scars which are going to take a long time to fade though! I’ve used it once in the past week and seem to be able to get away with using it infrequently, it’s just not one I can reach for daily though 🙁

This is the only skincare I’ve tried from MAC, definitely intrigued to try more!

I am really sorry to hear that tarte lights lashes mascara didn’t work out for you but the products you are loving are the ones I enjoy a lot as well!

Great work on this post Rachael!
