The Creamy Tingly Cleanser from Burt’s Bees

I was really happy to see an item from Burt’s Bees included in one of the last My Little Box boxes I received and finally got around to having a dig through my cleansers drawer a couple of weeks ago on the hunt for something new to try and this was the first thing I decided on. It’s a a brand that doesn’t seem to be stocked in my local Boots’ stores (whilst I know they do stock it) and I think that’s been the reason that it’s never ended up grabbing my attention on a stroll through the aisles.

The Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream sounded really interesting to me, I really like cream cleansers over all and I’ve never tried Soap Bark before – and googling the ingredient mostly brings up this cleanser. This feels pretty thick, similar to Cleanse and Polish from Liz Earle, made with three calming ingredients, echinacea, chamomile and aloe are all soothing ingredients. It’s also made of 99.9% natural ingredients.

This describes as itself as a cream which lathers to a foam, this doesn’t lather for me at all – a personal preference for me, because I tend to use a cream cleanser when I don’t want it to lather. The feeling this has on the skin is bizarre, it’s like a menthol tingle on the skin, on the cheeks, forehead and chin it feels pretty nice and very fresh. On the eyes it’s okay as a quick skim over, but when you need to do any massaging in to try and break up makeup left on the eye area is where it becomes pretty sensitive, this at least as far as I’ve been able to find doesn’t say to avoid using on the eye area. I’ve just been able to bear the tingle it brings, but if you have particularly sensitive on the eyes.

It also says it removes excess dirt, oil and makeup. Sadly it definitely doesn’t remove makeup in the slightest for me. Some cleansers do a decent, but not perfect job leaving stubborn eye makeup behind, but cleansers should be able to easily remove foundations in my opinion. When I get out the shower I look fresh and ready for a night on the town… for Halloween – mascara streaked everywhere looking like I’m a member of Kiss. The real test is following up with a micellar water to see what residue is left behind and there’s a heavy trace of foundation, concealer etc that’s left on the skin.

Whilst I quite enjoy the feeling of this on parts of my face, there’s too many conditional qualities about it. It’s quite nice as a nourishing cream cleanser, but I’ve tried many another cream cleanser that can deliver on being able to be used on the eye area without pain, and can effectively remove makeup. Whilst this wasn’t a great first experience, if you’ve tried Burt’s Bees and have some recommendations please let me know – I feel like this was halfway there to being a product that I would like and wouldn’t rule out trying more from them.
