Maui Moisture Shea Butter Haircare

Maui Moisture Shea Butter Haircare

A few weeks ago you may have seen me haul these, I’ve been eyeing the Maui Moisture range for a few months after seeing them on Jodi’s blog a few months ago, just because… well look at the packaging! The bright pink bottles caught my eye and they may even be something that becomes refilled going forwards as I love the colour of them that much! When I bought the Maui Moisture Shea Butter Haircare range it was also on 3 for 2 so I picked up one of the masks too and it’s been in my shower being put to the test ever since.

I’ll start by saying that these are far more expensive than I usually spend on shampoo and conditioner, especially at Boots, at £8.99 for an average sized bottle it leaves me with immediately high expectations of what their performance should be like.

The scent of these is lovely and soft, it feels luxurious with the soft subtle warmth of shea butter, with a little sweetness from the macadamia nut added in too, it has that luxe salony smell without being overtly strong. The line says both yes, and no to a lot of different things, but in general the brand gives off very good vibes with their ethos and approach.

  • No mineral oil
  • No silicones
  • No parabens
  • No gluten
  • No Sodium Laureth Sulphates
  • No sulfated surfactants
  • No synthetic dye
  • No animal testing
  • Yes eco-friendly
  • Yes post-consumer recycled packaging
  • Yes pure coconut water
  • Yes pure aloe juice

The packaging and the labelling are quite obviously #Goals, and the quality of the packaging is also nice too, I’m a big fan of the flip top lid which makes it easy to squeeze product out, but not so much you end up accidentally distributing an entire handful.

Sadly though in terms of the effects I’m just not keen on this duo, I’ll give it some serious props in terms of it helping my hair colour, beyond the first wash I’ve basically noticed no fading of my current pink locks between washes, and have managed to go longer between dyes, whilst the dye doesn’t damage my hair, saving faff of redoing it is always welcome.

The shampoo leaves my hair feeling clean to the touch, and for a sulphate free shampoo it lathers surprisingly well. The conditioner I thought I would probably have a problem with, I have such dry hair, I have to use so much of it each wash otherwise I struggle to get a brush through and this was no exception, this is average at best and for an £8.99 conditioner I need it to be better than average. I wouldn’t say this is ultra moisturising, nor would I say it’s drying – for me it’s the kind of mediocre middle of the road that’s neither impressive nor disappointing.

Whilst my hair feels clean, and it looks shiny, it almost looks too shiny to the point where it doesn’t look clean at the root in particular. My hair lasts feeling clean only for around a day before I feel like it needs rewashing.

Lastly the hair mask, I decided to go for the Agave one rather than the matching Shea Butter one,, which was for Strength and Anti Breakage. The mask features Hibiscus Oil and Pineapple Extract, yet again it does have a gentle scent this time it was just sweeter.

A mask for me has to deliver more than what a conditioner would do as a mask is normally more expensive and often smaller. This one comes on par with the rest of the line in terms of price and is also size, it’s pretty generous at 340ml. This is the best out of the three, I’ve found that it lives up to it’s promises of smoothing and leaves the hair sleek, I normally use a mask instead of a conditioner, but I’ve found if I don’t use one with this then I really struggle to get a brush through it and it becomes an additional treatment.

Whilst I can tell what it’s doing I’m not sure that it’s doing enough for me to consider buying it again.

Whilst I don’t think these are necessarily bad products, I’m just not sure if I have the right hair type for them. I have dry mid lengths to ends but my roots are prone to getting oily quickly, whilst I’ve kept the conditioner away from my roots as I always do, but the fact I’m not that keen on the finish for my hair even when freshly washed. I think this might be a range which is suited to much dryer, and probably coarser hair than mine.

The range is also cheaper in other places such as the US and Canada compared to the UK. In other countries I’d consider giving these a try if you’ve been wanting to, but for me they’d have to be seriously discounted for me to be likely to try other products from the line again, and they don’t come close to knocking my Aussie ones off the top spot for most effective.

Have you tried the Maui Moisture line? What are you favourite shampoos and conditioners?

These sound and look good but sorry to hear they were just okay for you. The pink bottles and the scent would draw me in but I don’t find my hair gets dry so they may not be the best for me either. I don’t think this brand is sold here though lol

I think if your hair is dry all over they’d be a lot better, but the fact I get oily roots very quickly I think means that my hair just ends up looking too greasy quickly! It’s probably not with you yet, think it’s new overall.

Sorry they didn’t work well for your hair. I still haven’t tried any of the hair masks yet.

    Hi from the States!

We got this brand about six months ago and I’ve only used the Thicken & Restore + Bamboo fibers (the one in the green bottle) and it was ok. I think if I hadn’t gotten it on sale I would have been disappointed, but it smells so SO good.

They do smell so good! When I looked at the prices it seemed like Target converted much better than our prices, but it’s still not the cheapest line to buy from!

Your hair sounds similar to mine in the fact that the lengths are dry and the roots get oily. Its so hard finding a product that combats both of these issues at the same time!
I have been using the Garnier Ultimate Blends rice cream and oat milk version. I find that I have the same problem with these as my hairs is so soft that it almost looks like it needs washing immediately after use.. so I don’t think I will bother purchasing that again, or these products you have reviewed, which is a shame cause the packaging is so nice!!
    Great and helpful review xxxx

I’ve not had a very good experience with the ultimate blends line – the only one I liked was the green tea one and it seems to have been discontinued, It does sound like we have similar hair types though, too soft and shiny ends up looking like a grease bomb!

Ohhh I had high hopes for these! I have really dry, thick hair so don’t think they’d work for me either. Such a shame when the product doesn’t quite live up to the gorgeous packaging! X

I know! if they were a pound or two cheaper it would make it so much more bareable, but not worth it at full price for me!
