Products I’m Trying To Use Up Autumn 2017

After my massive mammoth summer empties, I took a recap over the two Spring and Summer editions of this post and was plesently surprised that I’ve made really good progress on what I’ve been committing to use up this year. All of the items from my spring edition are gone, and I’ve got a couple from the summer one which have already gone and a couple which will probably be in the empties box by the end of the month so it was time to start flicking through my collection and looking for some new bits to say goodbye to.

QLABO Collagenerous Moisturiser

Once I posted my review of the couple of QLabo products that I was sent, I immediately stopped using them and moved onto the next thing. I have still been using this on and off as it’s stayed sat on my dressing table, but I’m ready for it to declutter now and for it to be gone. Due to the packaging I have no idea how much is left inside and because the packaging is quite heavy the weight of it isn’t giving much away either.

The Body Shop Blue Corn Mask

This is one of my top two favourite masks, I’m only keen to get it used up now because it’s been used a lot and it’s getting to the point where it should be replaced. I’ve neglected this one a bit over summer whilst I’ve used a lot of different one use masks. This gently exfoliates and smooths the skin and makes it look really bright.

Illamasqua Precision Ink Liner

When I reviewed this I said I compared it against the Balm Schwing and I said I wasn’t sure whether Illasmasqua was worth the extra cash. I’ve changed my mind, it is and it’s a fabulous liner – that review was now almost a year ago and I had the liner for a good month before I compared them so it’s lasted really well – I can tell now it’s just starting to be on the turn and starting to either dry out or be used up as I’m having to dip in quite often 2/3 times now, it’s time to make an effort to use this up as best as possible and get it gone.

The Balm MaryLou Manizer

This was featured in my last one of these posts and I’m just publicly saying I’ll be using it again. I used it a lot in July, and then lost it for several weeks until I found it in a makeup bag which had been accidentally put away with this still stowed inside so it’s fell by the way side for a few weeks. Compared to my summer edition where I first used it I can see some difference in the pan usage side by side and I’ll continue with the push to use this up.

The Ordinary High Performance Silicone Primer

I really wanted to include a foundation in this as my concealer, foundation and primer drawer is quite literally a sight to be ashamed of. However I’m starting with relatively full foundations in shades which are now the right ones for me for this time of year and I think committing to using any of them up is unlikely to happen quickly, so picked a primer for good measure. I still haven’t gotten around to reviewing this, and it’s almost empty! Luckily I bought more than one when I placed an order on Deciem so can do a comparison alongside the other primer and two foundations I’m still making my mind up on. One thing I already know is I don’t like the packaging on this, its becoming really difficult to squeeze out product, but I can feel there’s loads around the edge, it may require a pair of scissors cutting it open before long.

Dior Fahrenheit Summer Perfume

I recently did a perfume collection and said that this was one of my next targets to get used up and gone. Now I’ve been using it more I’m actually more in love with it than what I was, this is not what I think of when it comes to a summer scent and it’ll be perfect coming into autumn. It’s warm and dusky, almost bordering on masculine and I’m kind of re-remembering why I liked it when I got it… around 8 years ago! *Insert Gritted Teeth & Monkey Covering Eyes Emojis*

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealer

I’ve had this since we went to New York last year and it’s definitely the most expensive concealer I’ve ever bought! At the time I was dubious about it because… well it looks tiny for the price but I’ve used this quite a lot and it still doesn’t seem to end. I still haven’t gotten around to reviewing this fully (I have now taken some images of it so I’ll work on getting that up!) but I’ve been using it a lot recently and would like to get it finished up as it’s getting quite old!

Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation

I’d really like to try and get this used up. I like how this looks, just only for really short periods of time – this is not a foundation for all day wear for me, however this does work really well for a few hours in the evening. One of the biggest problems with this foundation is that it oxidises so badly that this isn’t going to be a great shade for me come winter when the last ounce of my tan has been zapped from my skin so would like to try and get it used up as best as I can and get it out of my drawer. I don’t anticipate being able to finish this, but I’d like to give it a good go.

TheBalm Bahama Mama Bronzer

I bought this at the same time as I bought Mary Loumanizer so it’s funny that they’re on their last legs together. I go through phases of really liking this, then not loving the colour. I hit pan on it at the start of summer and would like to see it finished up and gone. This is going to be harder to use up than Mary Lou as I’ll always highlight, but don’t always bronze/contour, and tend to prefer something cooler toned day to day.

Polaar Lapland Hand Cream

I’ve really fallen out of the routine of applying a hand cream this year and have only use up one small tube in 2017. Last year I would have been using up one every month or two as I had one at my desk, handbag and bedside table and was religious about applying them! I’m popping this one back on my bedside table and hope I can make myself get back into doing it regularly, I have a lot of hand creams in my cupboard I’d like to destash!

The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% with Hylauranic Acid

When I first got this I got really into the routine of using this daily but I’ve gotten a bit lazy over the past few months. I never really managed to form an opinion or not as to whether this was actually helping some scars on my face and I’ve got some fresh ones over the summer thanks to a couple of nasty bites on my cheek, whilst I don’t necessarily want to use it up, I do want to start using it frequently again as it’s a perfect time to see if it makes a noticeable difference.

It’s quite a chunky list this time, but they’re all from different categories, so hopefully it will be a relatiely easy task! You’ll notice that there’s no haircare this time. I’m still trying to finish one serum from my last one of these and whilst I do have some products that I am trying to use up, they’re so close to being finished I thought it would be a bit of a cheat to include them!

What are you trying to use up at the moment?

I haven’t seen that Body Shop Blue Corn mask before! Sounds interesting!

At least most of thr products you don’t hate. My to-use list is normally products I’m really not fond of. I got two The Ordinary primers that I’ve not tried yet. I’d like to see how you find The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin. I tried one skincare item the Hyaluronic Acid and it seems to just dry my skin out! I’m reluctant to test it again x

I think I did a good job at the start of the year of highlighting the stuff I liked a lot less and clearing them out!
Oh I really like the HA from the ordinary – it’s quite a strong one though, I find others I’ve tried do nothing but that one seems to genuinely help!

I can’t believe how much of The Balm MaryLou Manizer you’ve used!!! Mine looks new and I’ve had it for years.
Would you recommend The Ordinary High Performance Silicone Primer? When I hear the word “silicone” I think of the Smashbox primer – is it similar?
The Alpha Arbutin 2% is on my list to try from The Ordinary. I’ve heard good things.
Good luck working through this bunch of products!

I’ve never tried the smash box one, in fact I’ve never tried anything from Smashbox (the shame!) – it’s neither similar to Benefit Porefessional or the Body Shop Instablur. It feels really nice on the skin, almost balmy – but way more wet than what other silicone primers are like, I just don’t know it makes the skin look any better or helps my makeup last longer. I’m really finding it hard to tell what it’s doing and given I’ve probably used two thirds of a tube that’s not a good sign. I will report back when I do my review once I’ve made up my mind!
I go hard on Mary Lou and have been known to use it on the body in the past as well!
Alpha Arbutin feels really nice, just need to find the routine of it again to check it’s actually doing something!

I almost bought The Ordinary High Performance Silicone Primer not long ago because they sent an email with an offer of 50% off that product. It expired before I had a chance to go to the store though. That’s not good if you can’t really tell what it’s doing for you!

The body shop mask looks really lovely! I haven’t seen that one before.
Good luck with using these all up, I hope it goes well for you xo

Wow , well done on the Mary Lou! That’s some serious pan you’ve hit. I’m the same with the Bahama Mama, it’s already way too dark for me so has gone away again until next year when the sun peeks out for 2 whole days 🙂
I’ve a miniature of the Mary Lou from the In The Balm Of Your Hand palette The Balm brought out that I am trying to use up along with other items that are approaching there use by date.

I used it today and I was already like I don’t love how warm this is so I don’t envisage me getting far with using it up this year… even if I tried to use it more frequently as an eyeshadow I’m going to see so little progress it’s barely worth trying that way!

      • September 13, 2017 / 5:18 pm

I hear you, I’ve tried to put things into my project pan that I have some hope of using up & if it’s a thing that I’m not enjoying using it , it is being decluttered & something else will be swapped in. I still want to enjoy using my make up!! 🙂

I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the Deciem primer! I love my Bahama Mama bronzer! Xxx

        Oh no that’s not good!

Wow, I’m impressed on your usage of the Mary Lou Manizer! It feels impossible to get through a highlighter. I use a highlighter about 80% of the time I wear makeup and none of my highlighters even look like they’ve been touched.
The MUFE concealer – do you use it to conceal spots, or undereyes (or both)?
Good luck using these products up!

    • September 13, 2017 / 4:35 pm

I have to solidly use a highlighter to see any progress and I think it would probably take a year for me to finish one up start to finish! I used one up all of last year and that was in a contour kit which wasn’t that big!
I can use the MUFE for both, but at the moment it’s too brightening for spots (did use it for this in winter), but it’s being used under the eye area daily. It’s light but has good coverage so works well for both!
