Introducing Hunkemöller Lingerie

Hunkemöller may be a name that you’re already familiar with if you’re from Northern Europe, having sold there for over 130 years already, but if you’re from the UK, it may be a name you may not have heard of. I always struggle with bras, with my cup size, a lot of places either have bras which a) aren’t pretty b) aren’t padded or lined or c) both of the above. When I was contacted to see if I wanted to pick out a bra to review, of course I was intrigued as I only have two shops that I regularly shop in for bras that fit me well (as well as being pretty), and I’m always looking for more options of places to shop, so I’m pleased to be able to add Hunkemöller Lingerie to my places to browse online.

Hunkemöller Lingerie pride themselves of catering to all body shapes, catering from cup sizes from the AA to H cup, they aim to help everyone find a perfect fitting bra – with the promise that ‘Sexy Comes in All Shapes’. Whilst they still have a large selection of bras that are D+, I found when I got up to my size, which can be an F or G depending on shop and bra style – there were fewer options to pick from, and I ended up actually picking an F cup size to get a bra I’d want to wear as in a G there wasn’t one I’d want to pick. Most of the options were unpadded, which I don’t mind infrequently, but don’t like to wear very often, I work in an office with eleven men and only one other female, it can get quite chilly with a very temperamental air-con, I don’t need to go any further as to why padded is a necessity.

I ended up choosing the Maya bra (£22.50) in the White shade, white bras are the most hard for me to find by far – and I always have as serious lack of them during summer in particular so I was hoping they Maya bra would be a welcome addition to my drawer.

The way the Hunkemöller Lingerie bra arrived was lovely, it came beautifully boxed with a pink striped pattern lining the lid which is quite reminiscent of another lingerie brand. The first thing I noticed was the bra was beautiful quality, I’m used to paying upwards of £30, usually closer to £40 for my best fitting bras and this one is just as comfortable as those.

I was pleasantly surprised that the white wasn’t a pure white, it was more of an ivory, cream white – which I much prefer to wear under white t-shirts, vest tops etc as it’s not quite as stark and doesn’t show through as luminescent white often does. The lace on this is very thin and soft and isn’t visible through any normal t-shirts, I tend to try and stick away from lace as I hate seeing that lace texture through clothes, but this is invisible, whilst still feeling prettier than a plain t-shirt bra when you take off your clothes. In the middle there’s a delicate little ribbon bow with a simple silver detail, which is a pretty finishing touch.

I tend to go with plunge style shapes more often than not as I find they tend to flatter my assets the most, but I’ve found the shape of this one which is almost half-way between a plunge and a balconette, surprisingly comfortable, as I normally don’t love this shape of balconette bra traditionally as my boob shape is quite wide and I find that towards my arms they can often overflow, and the girls can be a bit ‘jiggly’ and get quite uncomfortable through the day, this one is almost balconette towards the middle being quite high, where the sides come up higher keeping everything held in place.

I’ve had this a few weeks now and have been wearing it a lot, whilst from the first wear I knew I liked the comfort and fit of this Maya shape, I wanted to wait a few weeks before reviewing to see how it washed, as there’s nothing worse than a bra that loses it’s mojo after the first handful of washes, and so far, this one is  holding up so well.

Overall, I’m really impressed with this particular bra and I’m hoping to see that the brand will expand upon their options for us larger cupped ladies. They have a lot of really pretty selections for D cups and under, in lots of pretty colours, but the choices were pretty much black, white, nude for me. However the fit and quality are fabulous of these and I’m tempted to pick up the black version of this as well, as my black bra has recently given up.

Where are your favourite places to shop for lingerie?

Hunkemöller Lingerie items sent for review, but thoughts my own and based on my honest experience with the website and product.

I hate that I have to pay so much money for a good bra that is in my size and still looks pretty. Great review ! x

Gorgeous bra – I find it hard to get anything nice in a F also; I’ve got a selection of tshirts bras, of all which are a slightly grey shade. It’s definitely time to reassess my underwear drawer! X

Always helpful! I tend to shop at Bravissimo or Boux Avenue for the range of styles in my size which is an awkward one, but Bravissimo are so expensive! Can’t keep forking out 40 quid on bras!

We don’t have a Bravissimo near us, so I’ve only been in a handful of times – I like trying on brands of bra I don’t know before I buy them as I can be that in-between cup size, and don’t want to order each bra in two sizes, especially when they’re £40+!
Boux Avenue are a recent discovery for me, but I love the ones I have, they also do great sales I’ve noticed and plan to stock up on a few the next time there is one!

I love Hunkemöller!!! We’ve had it in The Netherlands since for ever and I have been buying there since my teenage years! They offer such great quality and so many nice designs 😊

I love it when you find a new bra! This particular style is something I like as I find full plunges slip a lot but balconettes don’t always sit nicely under things and cause that over bra bulge! These are fantastic prices too! I’m definitely going to look into it to see if they do my size! therosebeautyfiles.com xxx

My favourite bra is a full plunge one from M&S which they don’t even make any more, I bought three in the exact same size and style when I learnt they were being discontinued!
They are great prices – definitely a lot more palatable than many other places!

Bras can be expensive but they are a necessity! This one shows you don’t have to spend a huge amount to get a nice fit and a nice style. The off white looks so pretty and the lace detailing is also nice. I’m not a huge lace fan personally but something like this is lovely 🙂 I find bra shopping difficult as I have small, petite shoulders but need a style that accommodates the curve of my boobs. One of these days I’m gonna have to be brave and get fitted haha x

Honestly getting fitted is the best thing, you end up with a bra that’s comfortable at the end! Most of the time I haven’t even had to take my bras off in front of them – they have skillful eyes that know what they’re doing!

I have heard that, you don’t even need to undress and there’s no awkwardness. I think that’s what younger me was afraid of lol but now I’m a bit older I’m so shy x

Never heard this one before but that looks really lovely!😍

Super pretty bra. I’ve not heard of this brand but they sound good. All my bras cut in like mad so I need to get re-sized x

I’ve bought so many bras that didn’t fit right I’ve ended up sticking with H&M as they always fit but they don’t exactly feel fancy and don’t always have the biggest range. I’ve never heard of them before but this looks nice, almost a basic white but with the lace that adds something to it.

Its so pretty, I’m a GG cup so I know your pain. Fortunately about 30 miles from me is the Wacoal factory shop and during the sale I can buy they Freya Deco for £8, so twice a year I stock up. In fact I picked up a Freya tankini for £6 last time full cup and everything so its always worth the 45 minute drive.

I think I might look into this brand though. If you want an additional place to find affordable big bust bras the company has a website where you can often save 50% on a large range of brands http://www.leialingerie.com/

I sound like I’m sponsored haha! I wish I was, and for those who live in/near Northamptonshire the wacoal factory shop facebook is here https://www.facebook.com/WacoalEuropeFactoryShop/

Just thought I’d help my fellow busty girls out xx

    • August 10, 2017 / 6:28 pm

Oh I’m not not too far from Northamptonshire, so it might be worth checking out! I love freya bras, just not the price tag!

Do they do the sales at specific times of the year?

One behalf of busty girls, thank you! Xx

      • August 10, 2017 / 6:31 pm

They tend to be certain times but follow the facebook to be sure, the next one should be October time and the last one was June. It’s not exact but it tends to be those sort of times, always gets a little mad as its a small shop but so worth it. At “full price” there you save around a third, a Deco out of the sale is £18.99.

No worries, us busty girls have to stick together xx

The box with the pink and white design is very reminiscent of Victoria’s Secret.
I need some padding too. I don’t like those super padded ones but the “lightly lined” is what I normally go for. My preference is very clean lines – no lace, no texture of any sort and I don’t do crazy colours: nudes and black are my go-to colours.
I pretty much only shop at VS now because of availability and reliability on styles I like. I don’t know why but it seems most places sell an abundance of overly embellished bras. I’m a simple gal! Oh and sadly, I’m allergic to CK bras – whatever material they use for their straps and trimmings leave me with distinct red welts, tracing where those parts came in contact with my skin – so odd!

    • August 16, 2017 / 7:11 am

Oh yes no super push up bras for me either, the thin layer is the way to go!
VS is still very thin and far between here store wise and the few times I’ve been in and looked I don’t think they actually carry my size which is a shame as they’re lovely bras!
I tend to go neural but so have a handful of colourful and more embellished bras which don’t see the light of day very often!
Yikes that sounds horrible! I get the same with certain wools
