Revisiting Old Favourites – Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish

Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Review

Just before I started blogging, maybe even right at the beginning when I only wrote about nail polishes, I was a dedicated purchaser of Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, after my now Mother in Law bought me an introdution set one Christmas. It quickly became the product which I purchased over and over, but as I started branching out and blogging about other aspects of beauty my loyalty to the British favourite quickly slipped away and rarely now do I repurchase the same cleanser more than once, always moving on to the next thing to try and review.

Since then I’m pretty sure I’ve only had a small samples size of this once in a Birchbox, so I was happy to see it arrive again in the latest Tili Box, and overall I wasn’t the biggest fan of this edition’s contents but this was one of the items that tipped me over the edge to get it. I thought I’d start a new series where I revisit old favourites, and this seemed a perfect item to kick things off!

Cleanse and Polish comes with an iconic status, winning over 100 awards in it’s lifetime so far. I like the story of Liz Earle being a British born company from the Isle of Wight, although it is now owned by Boots as of 2015, I like that Boots haven’t made it an exclusive brand to them in the UK. Instead it’s kept the wide distribution which makes it easy to access in just about any town with a department store, Boots – or even at home via many online retailers including QVC.

Quite often when buying Cleanse and Polish the cleanser is accompanied with a Liz Earle muslin cloth. Whilst I really like how these look with the mint Liz Earle colour edging the cloth, these are never my favourite as I find them quite stiff and rough compared to some other clothes. They do get a little nicer feeling after they’ve been washed a few times, so I tend to run these through the washer once or twice before I start using them on my face.

One of the things I really like about the full size Cleanse and Polish is that it comes with a pump, the pump dispenses the perfect amount of product for full face removal. The Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish is a thick cream cleanser which melts makeup off like a pro, while at the same time leaving the skin feeling clean without the need for a second cleanse. The creamy texture of the product makes it very nourishing and adds moisture back into the skin.

Personally, I really quite like the scent of this, and whilst the scent isn’t artificial – it is quite heavy – so if you’re not a lover of scented skincare then you may want to give this a whiff in store before trying, the classic version has a combination of Rosemary and Eucalyptus hitting the nose. They often release limited edition scents for different seasons, currently Rose and Lavender – whilst in the past I’ve seen Sweet Orange and Mint and Grapefruit and Patchouli.

A few weeks ago my skin went through a freak out after I’d forgotten to take my makeup off one evening, within two days I had angry spots breaking out all over my cheeks and jawline – I introduce Cleanse and Polish back into my routine nightly and my skin felt more soothed straight after using. By the morning those spot looked less red and were much less sore, less feeling like Vesuvius was ready to burst out from beneath my cheek.

Liz Earle is a vegetarian friendly brand (some products use beeswax and honey, so not classed as vegan friendly), they don’t test on animals and also source their ingredients responsibly. I know from experience that this lasts really well, they do two size tubes of this, but the regular size tube (£16 100ml), lasts me around 2 months using morning and evening with one pump at a time.

What are some favourite products you used to love but haven’t revisited in a while?

Ah no way! I’m not surprised! It was one of the first cleaners I ever tried since my mum used it, and I remember how incredible it was!

So pleased you revisited this! Despite being a blogger and always trying new things like yourself, I have a bit of a panic if I know I don’t have one of these in the bathroom cabinet! I used to hate, and I mean hate, the scent when first started using this many moons ago and now I find it so comforting and soothing! I love it! You can read a wee bit about my experience with cystic acne and Cleanse and Polieh in Dot to Dot in my blog!

I’m like that with one from Mario Badescu, that’s the only beauty product that I start panicking when I run low, already decided when I next reorder I’m going to get two as I’m pretty sure my Husband is also using it on the side without me knowing!
I will take a read when I get home! xx

Would really appreciate that, thank you! Have been meaning to try some from the Mario Badescu line but there’s so much to choose from!!

I absolutely adore Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, I’m like you I used it for ages and then I brought other cleansers and I kind of forgot about it. I’m now back using it as I was brought so many bottles for my birthday and I have fallen in love with it all over again. The brand as a whole I love, I haven’t tried a product that I don’t love. Great post xo

The only other two bits I tried were the moisturiser (which I didn’t love, but wasn’t the right type for my skin) and the toner which I adored but it disappeared off the face of the earth when we moved house and never turned up again! I keep thinking one day it’s going to be under the bed or something!
      xx

I love the moisturiser but your right you have to get the right one. The toner is amazing. They also do a really good clay mask if your into them xo

I love masks! I do have too many at the moment and I’m trying to clear a couple out before I buy any more, but I will bear that in mind for future!

I’m quite the same! Even if I love a cleanser, I just have to try out new ones. Liz Earle is such a classic, and cult favorite πŸ™‚ I think it’s Superdrug, that has the drugstore-dupe for it – but I haven’t tried that myself. Btw your photos are stunning <3

I’m like you, used to have loads of these lying around and always loved using it but now I don’t have any to hand! This has made me want to pick up another bottle! I also love their exfoliator! Xxx

    • August 3, 2017 / 4:06 pm

The only things I’ve tried are the moisturizer and the toner (which I loved but disappeared off the face of the earth when we moved, I keep expecting it to turn up one day!). It’s so nice I’m probably going to be finished with it this evening!

      • August 3, 2017 / 11:04 pm

Definitely try the exfoliator! It’s quite like that nip and fab one but slightly gentler!

It’s so frustrating how one day can cause your skin to go crazy! Good to hear this product helps!
