Three New Blushes – Makeup Geek, LORAC & Ciate

Three New Blushes – Makeup Geek, LORAC & Ciate

One thing I’ve never really hoarded when it comes to makeup is blush, I’ve known for a long time I only really like peach or peachy pink blushes on my complexion, and was obsessed with one from Estee Lauder (Peach Nuance), which was discontinued and whilst I bought it’s replacement, when I finished up the EL one this year I was left which blush from my limited collection I should try next, and instead of becoming whole heartedly dedicated to one, for the first time in my life I’ve become a total flirt with three, two of which came from beauty boxes and I’d never have tried without the thanks of Look Incredible.

Makeup Geek Heart Throb

I bought this in the sale at Christmas on Beauty Bay, and I used it a few times but ultimately it fell to the back of my drawer whilst I was persistent in trying to finish my old bae from EL. I did however remember really liking it and it was the first one I pulled back out.

The packaging of this is lovely – and I like it the most out of the three – it’s a nice sleek package with a gunmetal chrome finish that actually doesn’t end up looking really worn after rolling around in my drawer and makeup bag for a few months as I thought it would. Inside there’s a nice size pan, and a handy little mirror if you take on the go.

Out of the three – I’d describe this as the most neutral with a peachy undertone, it blends really nicely, and is great for someone like me who tends to have a bit of a heavy hand when it comes to blushes as the pigmentation is quite light but buildable. Ranking it the middle of the road for wear time, it’s comparable to my old favourite – the texture of this is quite silky and lasts just about a whole day of wear (I’m talking work day).

The most affordable of the three at £11.95 (or £7.95 if you just want the pans), available in the UK at the Beauty Bay (link to Beauty Bay Blushes), I’m tempted to look at some other shades and will be keeping my eyes peeled if they pop up in the sale again.

Ciate Glow To Illuminating Blush in Baby Doll

This is the most out of my comfort zone colouring wise, but lets just talk about this packaging. It’s so adorable, whilst it looks like this might be partially made of metal the whole thing is plastic and is very lightweight. The product is stunningly designed – with the Ciate bow in the centre of swirly plush like cushion design and covered in the stunning star pattern that also adorns the marbled product. I said the Makeup Geek was my favourite packaging wise and whilst I think this is the prettiest, it’s a little bit bulky.

After a few weeks use the pattern is wearing down

I took this as the sole blush with me on honeymoon without ever having tried it before (risky, especially as my only encounter with Ciate has been their polishes which I don’t like), and actually thoroughly enjoyed using it. These are almost a halfway house between wearing a blush and a highlighter, the finish of these is very pretty and rather than shimmery, glow – as per the name – would definitely be the right term. They do lean towards being more of a blush than a highligher, but if you like a really subtle highlight you would probably find that this might be enough, for me though – I always pile more highlighter on my cheekbones. They do this in quite a few shades and this deep dusky rose is one of the darkest, but some of the lighter ones may be able to be placed a little higher on the cheekbones to be more of a two in one. I always thought a dusky rose shade wouldn’t be right for me, but compared to bright and lighter pink blushes it sits on my skintone a lot nicer.

The price of these are up there at £22.00 via ASOS. Whilst the packaging of these is so stunningly pretty the wear time of these is the worst out of the three. It’s definitely not bad, I’ve tended to wear this so far mostly in the evening – and it lasts fine for that, but it does tend to fade through a day at work much quicker for others, so for a £22 price tag I would expect a little better.

LORAC Pro Powder Cheek Stain in Coral Crush

Last but certainly not least is this one from LORAC, I have no idea how this ended up in a Look Incredible Box as we can not get the brand here at all without buying from the US. Out of the three whilst the packaging isn’t my favourite, something about this doesn’t scream high end to me, whilst it feels high quality, the lack of mirror, quite small pan width and excessively deep height of the packaging are all things that push this to the bottom of the listings.

Coral Crush is a gorgeous shade which has a NARS Orgasmesque sheen, slightly peachier in tone (although switched against the others it does look quite pink), the more you blend it out the more the golden sheen fades, so if you don’t love that look it can be made more subtle if wanted.

Not being sold in the UK made the price of these harder to track down, and the LORAC website has these discounted to just $10, down from £21. Sadly they’re not shipping internationally (anywhere I checked), and the only place I could find it in the UK was on Look Incredible’s website for £14.99.

    Blush hoarder checking in! πŸ˜›
I honestly do not discriminate – I can make most blushes work for me for some reason… from the coolest purple to warmest orange, I will buy it! πŸ˜€
That Ciate blush is so pretty – I played around with them at Sephora but I couldn’t justify a higher end blush purchase right now. Plus, I feel like it’s more of a form over function with that blush.
I get asked a lot about my favourite brand of blushes… it’s such a difficult question because every range has hits and misses. I do own pretty much all of the Cargo blushes and TheBalm Instain ones. From the drugstore, I think Milani baked blushes are outstanding. πŸ™‚ Have you tried the Makeup Revolution Matte blushes? They’re really nice for the price point.

Haha I knew you’d comment on this one!
I like the Ciate one, but I think for the price I’d definitely expect more, if on sale I’d grab one as they’re pretty but not worth full price IMO!
I’ve bought the Makeup Revolution blushes for other people when I’ve done giveaways I’ve popped some in, but never bought one for myself – I’ve always just heard they’re good and my non blush hoarder in me never bought one for myself, I probably should!
I really like the formula of the Instain one I picked up but I’m not that keen on the colour I got, it’s too pink for me!

I second on the Makeup Revolution matte blushes! They’re quite fab.

Lorac reformulated & repackaged their blushes, so that’s an old packaging one you got. Not sure if they make that shade anymore. I have 2 of the current version and love them.

Holy crap, the CiatΓ© packaging!!! I waaaaant. The LORAC is very pretty.

I like Illamasqua and Milani Baked Blushes the best! Vasanti makes a nice one, too.

The milani ones I’ve heard great things about! We only get a very limited range of milani here online and I think we only have those Rose blushes not the baked ones

I love, love, love the makeup geek blush you featured! That color is awesome! Some of my favorite blushes are Wet N Wild, Tarte and my old & faithful Mac blushes! xo

It’s such a great everyday shade, especially if you’re lion g for something really neutral! I don’t own any Mac blushes any more I’ve only ever had one and it smashed and I’ve always been scared to buy more!

      • July 31, 2017 / 9:21 pm

They are okay- I have one shade that I absolutely love, but I will say you can get a far better blush at a far better price. I love neutral colors and no shimmer, I like a matte blush, I have textured skin and don’t think shine on my cheeks helps!

I’m the same as you when it comes to blusher. I only ever seem to use one blusher which is by MAC and have had for a few years now although I have got a couple that I received in sub boxes which I’ll have to give some love to at some point. Loving the the look of that ciate one. So cute! xx

      • July 31, 2017 / 10:18 pm

I’m a bit like that with foundation too. But lippies, highlighters, eyeshadows/palettes..? More! More! Gimme more lol!

Oooh I’m curious to know why you don’t like the Ciate nail polishes? I loved them until recently where I went through a stage of wearing and changing nail polish colours quite frequently to then having to stop coz my nails looked so damaged (peeling, mostly). I wasn’t sure if it was my ciate nail polishes that were to blame or that I was lacking in certain vitamins or something (been veggie for nearly a year now so wondered if that had had a part to play). xx

          • July 31, 2017 / 11:04 pm

Ahhh! Yeah I’ve noticed that with the chipping too. Although China Glaze’s no chip top coat over the top is brilliant! Faaaar better than Ciate’s own top coat! xx

I’ve never been one to wear blush because my cheeks are already so naturally red, but got dang that Makeup Geek is so pretty. It doesn’t look like it would go on too heavily either!

  8. July 31, 2017 / 10:31 pm

    Favourite blushes: MAC warm
soul, MAC crisp whites, Rimmel Santa Rosa (could have made up that name to be honest) also love my tarte one in the shade paaarty xxx

The packaging of the ciate blush is beautiful! I’m so surprised that you got the LORAC one from a beauty box though since you can’t get it here! Maybe there must have been some excess stock! Great post as always xxx
