Face Mask Friday #38 – Primark Cleansing & Polishing Charcoal & Black Sugar Scrub Mask

Face Mask Friday #38 – Primark Cleansing & Polishing Charcoal & Black Sugar Scrub Mask

I bought a bunch of face masks in Primark a good few months ago, I did an instastories featuring them, snapped some pictures of them ready to start using them straight away… then I had no idea where I put them. It wasn’t until last weekend I found them stashed under a box of nail polishes – I’d presumed that I’d mistakenly thrown them away! So first up is the Primark Cleansing & Polishing Charcoal & Black Sugar Scrub Mask

There was one of the masks in particular which I was most intrigued about, and that’s the one I decided to put to the test first. So this is a bit of a mouthful of a title – the Primark Cleansing & Polishing Charcoal & Black Sugar Scrub Mask, I think Primark could have come up with some shorter snappier names! The good thing about them of course is that being Primark they’re pretty affordable at only 80p each, and the packaging is actually pretty stylish for ol’ Primani – I was surprised when I was looking at the back at the information to see that it was also made in South Korea.

My skin all over has looked pretty tired since we got back from our honeymoon, I think a combination of some sunshine as well as my sleep pattern still not being back to normal, has left me a bit dehydrated looking top to toe. My body is slowly recovering after many scrubs, and heavy doses of lotions, but my face still looks a bit tired.

I’ve had a few patches on my face which have been a bit dry as I’ve also been dealing with some spots healing up – all the plane journeys played havoc with my skin by the end. I was intrigued to see what the deal with this mask would be, I could feel that in the inside that it felt gritty and was clearly going to be a scrub – but whether it was going to do anything additional to just scrubbing.

It was actually pretty difficult to get out of the packet, I’d expected that it would just squeeze out, but I had to get something to actually scrape it out. The texture of this was super thick, applying to the face I’d describe the feeling as a bit like a combination of olive oil and sugar mixed.

I could feel as I was massaging this around my face to get an even coverage, that my skin was warming up – it took me a while to decide whether this mask was self-warming, but I settled on deciding it was increasing circulation in my face. The packet instructed to leave the mask on 15 to 20 minutes, and to be honest I’m not sure that it would have made any difference if I’d left it for that long – or whether I’d just massaged it in and rinsed it off.

Rinsing it off I was so pleasantly surprised at how nice my face felt, my skin felt completely resurfaced, soft and smooth. However this was just like a really effective face scrub rather than a face mask in my opinion, if you could buy this in a big tube, I would 100% go and get it, but at 80p it would make a pretty expensive scrub on a frequent basis. I would repurchase this again, in fact I plan on going back and buying a good few of them at once, but to save for when I want to treat my skin for a special occasion.

I think most people would get on well with this scrub, especially dry skins – I think the only people who this might not be suited for is sensitive skins as the scrub feeling is pretty harsh as it’s very densely gritty and it works best when really massaged and buffed into the skin. Overall I must admit this exceed my expectations and I’m looking forward to trying the other three masks that I bought from Primark!

Have you tried that magenetic mask? I feel like it was all over the place when it came out, and now it’s just gone?!

    • Is it a primark version or the original one (I think Peter Thomas Roth?) – if so didn’t hear about a primark version, and haven’t tried the original either!

This sounds really good! So affordable too. Not a good look while you’re wearing the mask but who cares. 😛

This does look like a scrub more than a mask for sure! Sounds good though. Might be good as a once a week treatment to get rod of dry patches xx

    • I’m thinking about buying a few and depotting them into something to use more as a scrub the packet is too much for one use if you were just using it as a general scrub!
