May 2017 Empties

My May empties are up a little earlier than normal, but I knew I wasn’t going to get these photographed as I got any closer to the wedding day, so chose to put them in the rubbish early, and wrote about them whilst I could still remember my opinions rather than a months time.

There were a few items which narrowly escaped the bin this month, but in general I’ve had a good declutter of makeup I wasn’t using. I’d planned to put this into a blog post, but didn’t have the time to do it, and chose freeing up a lot of space by doing a makeup swap shop with Molly, sophie and Lora at the start of the month, as well as passing on another bunch of stuff to my sister a few days later after a second harsher clearout. I’ve cleared out any palettes which aren’t high value enough to be saleable, on the ones I just wasn’t reaching for any more. As well as any other products that just weren’t working out for me. I now need to do the same with nail polishes, I’m planning on doing that when I get home from honeymoon, finally getting my rack on the wall after three years of living here and purging a lot of my collection! Anyway, onto this months shorter empties!

Benefit Gimme Brow (review)

One item which I know I’ve finished but seems to have accidentally been binned/stolen by the dogs, is benefit Gimme Brow. Gimme Brow has been my go to Brow product over the past year and I don’t see that changing any time soon, quick easy and long wearing. That pricey little bottle lasts a long time; even with every day use!

Repurchase? I have another waiting to go, but currently trying to finish up essences make me Brow.

Herbal Essences Nourish Me Butter Conditioner

It’s been a long time since I bought Herbal Essences anything – Ben’s allergic to the line as a whole so we tend to stay clear just in case he ever runs out and ends up delving into my collection. This was the Shea Butter conditioner which I’ve never tried before but picked it up out of curiosity to see how nourishing it was.

Repurchase? Probably not, would use if I had it

Head and Shoulders Crisp Apple Shampoo

I bought this as a way to try and alleviate my #indigohair disaster after reading that Head and Shoulders helps fade colour. I found it helped in the first 5 washes, but after that it made no difference. This was okay as a shampoo, but not my favourite. I ended up using it up as both a body wash as well as a shampoo to try and get through it a little faster. The scent of this was very subtle, I wanted it to be like a whack over the head with a bushel of apples, but sadly it was not that strong!

Repurchase? Not unless I was trying to fade hair colour

Vatika Wild Cactus Hair Mask (review)

Recently reviewed so I won’t talk about it for too long, I liked this mask, but not as much as the Vatika Egg Protein one, which I would choose to repurchase over this one in future. This left my hair soft and silky feeling, the egg protein one did the same but had the added benefit of also smoothing out split ends and made my hair less susceptible to breakage at the same time.

Repurchase? No, but their other mask yes

Garnier Sensitive Micellar Water

Do I need to talk about this? Garnier Micellar Water is basically in just about every empties post that I do. I’m trialling the Simple one currently which I have a review of coming up soon!

Repurchase? Yasssss

Nip and Fab Glycolic Fix Scrub (review)

Another recently reviewed product, it’s testament to it just how quickly I got through it as I don’t really enjoy using face scrubs, but this one I did so I used it frequently. This is quite a harsh feeling scrub, which really does the job of helping keep the skin clear and removing any signs of dry patches.

Repurchase? Yes, but not immediately

Juicy Couture Love Peace and Juicy Couture Perfume

Featured in  my most recent Products I’m Trying to Use Up post, I was surprised at how quickly I got through this considering it was mainly full. This is a lot more of a fresher scent than what I normally go for, and it was also quite light. I think for that reason I probably used anywhere between 10 and 15 spritz per go to actually feel like I smelt of something, so it only took me around 6 weeks to run through this bottle!

Repurchase? No

Yves Rocher Accord Chic

I got this in a beauty box, I’m guessing My Little Box as that’s the only one where Yves Rocher products seem to come from! They’re fragrances can be quite hit and miss for me, this was one I kept in my handbag for little touch up during the day, and if I had to use one word for it, it would be generic

Repurchase? No

Soap and Glory the Rushower (review)

Another product I ended up using quite quickly. This is a Soap and Glory product I really enjoy (hurrah, finally!) – I really liked this as both a dry shampoo as well as a styling product it volumised hair without making it feel dirty, as well as making hair look, feel and smell fresh all at the same time. As a result I used it on both clean hair as a styling product to add volume to curls at the roots, and as a dry shampoo to combat oiliness. It doesn’t quite beat Aussie to the top spot as my all time favourite for making my hair look it’s cleanest, but it’s a really good alternative and all rounder.

Repurchase? Yes, have a few dry shampoos to use up, but will definitely use this again.

St Tropez In Shower Tan

I’ve had this since the product launched and had not as much as peeled off the foil protective cap in that time. My legs were looking rather pasty so I decided to give this ‘easy’ fake tan option a try, as you just need to keep your body out of the shower for three minutes. I managed to get 3 uses out of this (over three showers in a row), and it was useless, no effect what so ever. I left it on for the first time for three minutes, and the second and third time ten minutes and my legs were just as pasty as when I started. I know they now do a darker version of this, but I don’t think I was out of being the medium kind of spectrum where I would have still noticed something.

Repurchase? Nopppppppe

Weleda Pomegranate Body Wash

A teeeeeeeeny-tiny little sample I was sent as a replacement product from My Little Box after they’d sent me the same product three times. I liked this enough as any other body wash, the scent was very reminiscent to me as I had a body oil from Weleda also in the Pomegranate scent about 4/5 years ago and the scent was a real take me back moment.

Repurchase? nope.

Blanx Whitening Toothpaste

Did not whiten at all, but I really liked the taste of it.

Repurchase? It’s pretty pricey for a toothpaste that doesn’t whiten, but if I saw it on discount I might consider it.

Colgate Advanced White

Just another toothpaste, gel and cooling effect great in particular for the mornings.

Repurchase? Nope

NSpa Facial Cloth Mask (review)

I didn’t actually use this, my sister and I had a weekend at my house while our partners were off galivanting in York for Ben’s stag do. Naturally . I referred back to my original review of these as I couldn’t remember what I thought about it – she found the same problem that they just don’t stay on your face, almost like one which is either too wet or too dry, except this one seems perfect. It’s like the texture of the tissue is just a bit off. The mask itself is good, but there’s pictures in my original review of just how much it hangs off your face, and it’s very melty snowman.

Repurchase? Unlikely

Primark PS Cucumber Cleansing Peel off Mask

This is the one I ended up going for, I never did a face mask friday review on this as I didn’t have any photos prepared as it was late at night, and thought if it’s good I’ll go get another then I’ll do one. I won’t be bothering to do that. This just did nothing, and it was really awkward to peel off. I bought three other Primark masks and I hope they fair a little better.

Repurchase? Nope

Kiehl’s Turmeric and Cranberry Seed Masque (review)

I was sent a couple of these by Kiehl’s, and have the full size of it already. I took this with me when travelling around for a good face mask for on the go. I love this mask, it was in my Back to Basics skincare post recently and it’s amazing, I use it atleast once a week at the moment, it just brightens the skin. I really like

Repurchase? Already have the full size! Going to keep this for decanting some for travel though.

And that’s it for this month! I think for me that’s a relatively quick and controlled empties. To be honest, beauty has been right at the bottom of my priorities this month and other than using things to keep my skin nice I’ve not been concentrating on using things up.

What have you been used up this month?

Ugh that in shower st tropez is just useless isn’t it. I bought it when it first came out and was so disappointed! Orange and patchy in places, no change at all in others! Will give that dry shampoo a try, I’ve only ever tried batiste and can’t stand it. xx

    • It honestly made no difference what so ever, so disappointing as it could have been the answer to a lazy girls self tanning prayers! I hate Batiste it makes my hair feel just as dirty just in a different way!
      xx

Good to know that St Tropez in shower tanner doesn’t work, I wanted to buy it, but it’s quite pricey so I wasn’t sure. Thank you for this post. xx

    • I’m not sure whether the dark one would work better, but like you say it’s expensive and I’m not willing to take the risk to see if it’s any better! x

I wonder if your Head & Shoulder formulation is different in the UK compared to here? Mine is very strongly fragranced which I love. Mine isn’t the 2-in-1 though, just the shampoo.
Normally I’d say amazing job on finishing a whole perfume… but only SIX weeks to finish that? You might as well have used a body mist.
Sucks about the St Tropez shower tan… I’ve never tried an in-shower tan product, I can’t imagine the product has enough time to stay on the skin to be effective!
I’m curious about that Kiehl’s Turmeric Masque after reading your review! Does it have any colour? Doesn’t turmeric stain…?
Good job on all the empties. Maybe I should start including TOOTHPASTE! 😉

I probably wouldn’t have included the toothpaste if it wasn’t for the fact I wanted to talk about the blanx one!
Kiehls mask is a yellow orange, it doesn’t stain but man does it work! Best mask I’ve tried for brightening up the complexion.
I have had better body mists that I’ve liked better and lasted longer!
I don’t think we can get just the shampoo by itself I think it’s all 2 in 1!
