Friday Night, the night of high heels, glasses of wine & celebrating making it through another working week. That’s what I was expecting from this month’s My Little Box theme, but yet again I’m left utterly perplexed by this month’s theme & line up.
I yet again took a peek at the French Version of this box before the UK one arrived and knew I was going to be disappointed with at least one side of the box this month. From the illustration on the front to the Kanako print on the inside, everything on the surface looks fun & like the party themed box you might be expecting. I loved the gold lettering on the front of this months box, I think that’s the first time that we’ve seen that. Speaking to my friend Joyce who lives in Paris and receives the French version of this box, I knew we were in for another rocky month.
The first lifestyle item I was greeted with was coasters, nothing says party on a Friday Night like coasters does it. It’s closer to my real Friday nights which is a large glass of wine with dinner followed by several cups of tea under a blanket. These painted cork coasters are a bit cheap feeling, and I hate the fact they say My Little Box on them, you might remember me talking before about hating any branded homeware which says the name of the shop where I bought it on display, and that little detail on them has made them be something I immediately won’t use in my house.
Next up was really the only saving grace of this box, A gold triangular hair clip – I actually really like this and think I’ll wear it now my hair is a lot shorter! It’s nicely made, but it reminds me of something I could probably buy in Primark in a three pack for £2.
Next up was an item which I had no clue what it was meant for until it arrived. This bowtie is a weird accessory which can be slipped onto different items, It’s suggested that you put it on the back of a bra to display on an open dress. There ain’t no way that this is fitting on any of my bras it’s too thin. I think this would have been cuter as a hair clip, but I guess they already had that base covered. It’s also not sewn together properly the bow part is just slipped in so I imagine it would fall out or get pulled out easily. Not a fan. The best idea for me for this is to put it on one of the dogs collars!
Lastly there was an envelope containing some cocktail recipes, and a blank invite to give to a friend or neighbour for a dinner party. I don’t know whether this is more of a French thing, but it’s definitely not a British thing, I think people would be creeped out if I gave them one!
The Beauty Items
I was already dubious about the beauty items from the French version from seeing Joyce’s box and just like the lifestyle items it’s not really got Friday Night vibes for me.
This is actually the most pleasing item from the box. The own brand My Little Beauty item is an All Black eyeliner. This is such a silky gel pencil which dries to a matte black and boy does it lock into place. I think this is nice, but does anyone ever really need another black eyeliner? It might have been nicer to see this in a dark brown instead.
Next up was a polish from a brand which I hadn’t heard of before, this is from a brand called Nailmatic and it’s the shade Jill. I hate this colour, it’s photographed better than it is in real life, but it’s a taupey, grey, purple bleh shade. Boring as hell, not a ‘Friday Night’ shade. but I’ll be intrigued to see how it performs, if I can bring myself to wear it this side of autumn.
Lastly one for the people who say ‘I can’t, I’m washing my hair’ I guess. A sample of the L’Occitane Shampoo with 5 Essential Oils. A quick scan of the ingredients shows that this contains Lavender Oil, and for that reason I’m probably going to have to pass this on to be used which is a shame (Lavender allergy), but either way I’m not sure I would have been ecstatic about the inclusion of a shampoo without a conditioner.
Do you remember me telling you about ‘maybe’ being sent a free replacement item last month due to them sending me an item for the third time. Well that maybe did actually turn up, the day that this box arrived a whole month after emailing them! I got a small sample size of the Weleda Pomegranate Creamy Body Wash. It’s more of a gesture to me rather than a replacement item.
That’s all from this months box, I think yet again the theme is a bit of a convoluted. I think for a Friday night there should have been a bit more Glitz with a lot more Glamour, coasters and shampoo don’t really match the vibe I think they were trying to go for. I think that eyeliner is my favourite item, but like I said – who ever runs out of black liner? I’m still working my way through a pencil I got in My Little Box two years ago!
I think it’s another disappointing show from My Little Box, It was a strong theme that had a lot of potential but sadly it just didn’t get paired together well for me.
What do you think of this months box?
