Vatika Wild Cactus Hair Mask Review

Vatika Wild Cactus Hair Mask

Last year at an blog event I was handed a pot of the Vatika Egg Protein hair mask – little did I know that I was going to discover that was the best hair mask I’ve ever used. I soon found my hair was left silky smooth and my frazzled ends were being hidden, it took me ages to repurchase as I had a tonne already in my cupboard to keep me going for several months. When I did need to the first place I turned was to try the Vatika Wild Cactus Hair Mask.

It’s not a brand that’s too easy to find – at least around me – I heard it’s supposedly stocked in Asian Supermarkets (none near me), Tescos (we have a Superstore near us, and they don’t have it there), ASDA and Superdrug, and I’ve not found it in one of the stores I’ve tried. I went onto Superdrug to do an online order and ended up being distracted by their other range of hair masks and bought the Wild Cactus one instead of the Egg Protein one (I actually meant to order both, but clearly I was being an idiot that day).

The packaging and size of this is identical to the Egg Protein mask (bar the colour of the lid), and the Wild Cactus edition is designed for weak and breaking hair. I’m not sure I’d fully put myself into that category, but my hair definitely needs all the love it can get between Olaplex treatments at the hairdressers.

The first thing I noticed about this mask was the scent wafting out and up to my nose, it’s really pleasantly scented – in a fresh way, similar to an Aloe scent which makes this blissful and relaxing to use and feels like a treat for me as well as my hair. In addition to the Wild Cactus, this also contains Coconut and Garlic (rich in vitamins which support and encourage hair growth). The texture of this is a bit odd, almost like gloopy blobs which feel kind of gel like, the beigey colour has an almost transparent quality around the edges. I tend to use this after shampoo and roughly towel dry my hair so it isn’t dripping and leave on for as long as possible.

Usually the length of time doesn’t extend much further than being in the shower, but where I can I hae left this on for an hour in the evenings or a late Sunday afternoon. I found the Egg Protein mask to be a total miracle worker for my hair, and whilst I’m not AS impressed with the Wild Cactus version of this as I was with my first foray into Vatika Naturals, however it is still very good. My hair feels soft and smooth, and it’s non-heavy slight gel textured formula means I can use this all over my hair, not just on my ends as it doesn’t make my hair greasy and gives me good all over nourishment.

I think considering just how huge these pots are (500ml) and weekly, on my really long hair I’m still just over half way through this in around 2 months, means that for £5.99, these offer incredible value for money, and are the nicest on the ‘high street’ (or online high street) that I have found.  When I come to reorder my beloved Egg Protein mask, I plan to pick up another of this, as well as trying out their third (and final as far as I know) coconut mask at the same time, because if that’s as good as the other two, it’s not going to leave me disappointed.

Have you tried, or even heard of Vatika before?

I like the sound of this! I’m on the hunt for a good hair mask, I like the Dove one (sorry, I forget the exact name of it) but I’v finished it now so I might give these a try. My hair took a bit of a beating after being coloured, plus I haven’t cut it in 2 years…I’m not a fan of the hairdressers. Needless to say, my hair could do with a little love.

My hair is in need of some love at the moment, I’m counting down til the 6th when it will be dyed and trimmed! This has really helped me though it’s been almost a year since my last cut and has worked well! xx

I haven’t found a hair mask that does much for me but these sound interesting. I kind of want to try the cactus one just because it’s cactus and they sound like such great value for money at that price. I will have to have a lookout next time I go to any of those stores, there’s a Tesco extra that opened a couple of years ago with a large beauty section that is dangerous to go near so I’m crossing my fingers they’ll have it as I don’t hold much hope with the others.

We have the biggest tesco in the country 5 minutes from my work and it’s not in there, like you said the beauty section is huge! Sadly it’s not in there but I think they sell it in areas with high Asian communities as it’s a really popular brand through the Middle East and Asia. They do sell online though so can click and collect! Cx

My favourite hair mask is still the Kiehl’s Olive one… but it’s spendy!
I’m using a L’Oreal one and it’s decent. I will have to try Vatika one of these days – if only to SMELL this. 😛

I would be tempted to buy that because I loved the samples of the Olive Fruit Shampoo and Conditioner I had from Kiehl’s last year, and have just got some other ones I can not wait to use again!
I find hair masks can be so hit and miss, if they don’t do more than a conditioner, then I may as well use a conditioner! At least this range seems to be good so far! The only trouble is that they come with a foil lid on, so if you see it in the store you can’t take a sniff!

I’m going to have to give this a try, especially for such a good price! My hair needs any help it can get!! xxx

I haven’t heard of this brand before but I really like the sound of it. I often forget to use my hair masks though, so I should probably finish the ones I have before buying a new one!

If I don’t love the hair mask I’ve bought it seems to sit in my shower for months and months, when I love one I have to resist myself from using it daily. I find it hard to find a hair mask that does more than a conditioner for the most part – there’s no point in me having more clutter in my shower if I could just use a conditioner in the place of another product! xx

Wow! This looks pretty good but the egg protein one sounds even better!! I’ve seen rave reviews about Vatika haircare products in general but like you, I struggle to find it stocked locally.

The affordability of these masks is amazing and 500g of product is very generous! I love good budget haircare products.

Thanks for the informative review. Will be keeping an eye out for this and may even do a cheeky online order myself 🙂

My hair actually became stronger and thicker and I didn’t think that was even possible! I love their stuff!

I’ve never heard of this brand but my hair needs all the help it can get so will keep my eyes peeled, especially for the egg protein mask! xxx
