March 2017 Empties Part 2 – Haircare & Bodycare

A really delayed reaction between the first part of my March monthly empties (you can read that here, for all the makeup and facial skincare I finished up). This time we’ve got Bodycare and Haircare empties to talk about, I can already tell you that April’s Empties are in no way going to be anywhere close in size to March’s – I’ve basically started afresh on a lot this month.

Salon Science Retextureluxe Shampoo and Conditioner & Hydrasorb Intensive Masque (review)

I reviewed these three products back in February, and they narrowly missed being in my February empties, I think they were used in the first few days of March and I’ve been without them for over a month as I’m writing this. I particularly loved the shampoo from this range – I would normally grumble at the idea of spending £12 on a shampoo (especially as the bottles aren’t that big) but I found I could get away with washing my hair less frequently. I’m currently trying to strip my hair of a hair dye disaster (more on that in a moment), however I might treat myself to these for my planned shorter hair chop post wedding as they’ll last me a lot longer with significatly less hair. If you have scalp issues it’s worth checking out my review to see more details about the masque in particular, it worked really well for me and Ben who suffers badly.

Repurchase? Yes, would repurchase all of these!

Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Conditioners // 3 Minute Miracle Moisture & Luscious Long

I’ve had a bit of a reignited love affair with Aussie products, I used them a lot in my teens when I lived at home and my Mum was shelling out for Aussie products instead of me (Aussie isn’t the cheapest brand in the UK, I know in Aus/USA it’s fairly low priced, but it’s kind of top end of the drugstore for us). When I was at Uni and when I first moved out the thought of splashing out on these (for how much conditioner I  have to use as I go through a lot), wasn’t top of my priorites. But my hair has needed a lot of love as I’ve been washing my hair so often to rid my hair of #greenhairgate – and I’ve needed something intensive to keep my hair nourished. I’d had both of these since pre-Christmas and they’d been used on and off alongside the Salon Science range so I didn’t go through both of these in March completely. Honestly whilst I’ve almost tried all the different versions of 3MM now, I can’t tell the difference between the three – there than the scent is usually slightly different.

Repurchase: Already have!

Schwarzkopf Got 2 B Rise N Shine (Review)

I wrote a post last year called a love letter to my hairspray, and this was the object of my affection. This is hands down the best hairspray I’ve ever used, it holds any style without looking crusty and brushes out to nothing if you want to restyle your hair multiple times during washes. I’ve depleted my entire hairspray collection to nothing and need to get my hands on another can before honeymoon as my hair is going to need help in the humidity of the Jungle to look semi tame. This is so, so good – and it’s usually on offer for £2-3, I’ve tried salon ones from Label M, Tigi, Paul Mitchell and an array from across the drugstore and this will forever be the one I go back to.

Repurchase: Yes, I need to desperately.

L’Oreal Colorista Washout #IndigoHair

I debated writing a whole review of this, but really can’t be bothered to pour my hatred for this product into a post. If you’ve seen me in person, or seen my instagram stories you’ll know that my hair didn’t turn out the beautiful shade of Blue that’s on the front of this. I was careful to pick a colour that the ‘before’ pictures matched up with my current colour and Ombre, and it’s left me with horrible green that I can’t get rid of. This was supposed to last 5-10 washes and I’m at wash 30+ and I’ve left a bleach on my hair for 30 minutes to try and shift it.

At it’s first wash I was a bluey-grey tone, and slowly it washed out to bright turquoise green. At no stage has it been Indigo, or even some form of blue.

L’Oreal have been incredibly unhelpful and are looking into what caused the issue (of course it’s going to somehow end up being my fault), and their best advice was to leave a clarifying shampoo on for a bit. Thanks L’Oreal, you wise old owls. And they’ve offered me a whopping 12.98 to dye over my hair to get rid of it. I told them where to stick the cheque as his needs professional fixing.

I’ve heard the pinks from this range are good, but there is no amount of money you could pay me to risk using anything from this range again. Sticking to La Riche Directions colour from now on.

Repurchase? Let me think…

Batiste 2 in 1 Invisible Dry Shampoo and Conditioner (review)

I reviewed this only recently but this was terrible. It didn’t soak up any signs of grease and it didn’t really condition ends, just adding a slight smoothing effect.

Repurchase? No

Colab Dry Shampoo Paradise

I bought a couple of bottles of this purely because of the flamingos on the can. Not my favourite scent and is probably my least favourite out of all the colabs I’ve tried. I’m not sure what formula this is meant to be (I know they’ve released a load more now in a similar style packaging), but I didn’t find it as effective as the others, and nor did it have a particularly high powered scent like the others do.

Repurchase: I already have another of this which I will use, but I won’t go back to it again.

Ojon Rare Blends Advanced Oil

I got this in a My Little Box a few months ago (actually just checked, it was last July, longer than I thought!), and on reorganising my hair products drawer discovered the little sample rolling around – this was really cool looking:

The oil was separated into three different layers, a blue layer, clear layer and yellow layer. I wanted to love this because the full size of this would be so fricking instagram worthy (even though I have a million hair oils to useup), but sadly it was just okay. Considering the price of Ojon oils I wanted and expected more.

Lush New Charity Pot

I was bullied into buying a Charity pot at my local store at Christmas 2015 (one of the three times in the past 2 years I’ve been in a Lush store!) and when I was going through my body cream box trying to find ones to use up to declutter I went to use this and found it had already gone goopy, despite never opening it. I know Lush products have expiries, but I shant be bullied into the purchase again, they can just have a quid if they want it.

Grounded Coffee Scrub Chocolate Orange (review)

Despite the fact I hate coffee, I love coffee body scrubs. This is one of my favourites which I’ve had in the past, Molly kindly gave me her packet after she tried and didn’t like it, and it didn’t last beyond a week in my shower before it had all gone! I’m nearly at the end of my body scrub collection, and I’m reordering some coffee scrubs as a treat when they’ve all gone.

Repurchase? Yes

The Body Shop Pinita Colada Body Sorbet

From last summer’s Body Shop collection, bought as a replacement for one of my top three Body Shop products of all time – The Mojito Body Sorbet, which was LE the year before. As someone who doesn’t get very dry skin, I like these where I can often find normal Body butters and lotions too heavy, the gel like texture is much more favoured by my skin. I also really like these in summer as I find them really refreshing feeling on the skin. Sadly this scent was pretty weak compared to the usual Body Shop standard. Fingers crossed Mojito makes a comeback this year for their summer collection. Pleeeeease Body Shop.

Repurchase: Yes, but not this scent.

The Body Shop British Rose Body Butter (Review)

I actually really liked this Body Butter from TBS, it’s a bit lighter than their other consistencies and the rose scent was to die for. I really want to get some more stuff from this range, hopefully my local outlet might have it in now so I will go and take a look!

Repurchase? No

Whish Almond Body Butter

Received in a Birchbox last January, I was excited to try this as I’d heard good things about Whish. I didn’t like the scent of this at all which is a shame as I normally love Almonds. It was like a sickly Almond, more like Marzipan. Body butter was okay, but the scent was just so off putting.

Repurchase? Nope

Molton Brown Shower Gel

Received in my last Tili Box, Molton Brown is a brand which is over-rated by middle aged people in my opinion. I’m not sure whose spending so much on a full size of their shower gels, but I can tell you who isn’t, me. This was fine, but nothing out of the ordinary considering they’re so expensive.

Repurchase? Never purchase, always steal from hotel rooms

Soap and Glory Hand Food Hand Cream

I’ve had this for years, I remember buying this in the Sale at Christmas (with a hand soap in a set) when I lived in Leicester (4 years ago), and it’s had a sink-side presence since. I don’t really use hand cream after washing my hands so it’s really only been guests who have been mainly responsible for using this up. I decided to try and use it up this month and whilst there’s loads left at the bottom, the pump can no longer pick up any more product so it can go, I don’t like it enough to make a hassle out of getting every last drop out.

Repurchase? I have a few small handbag sized tubes of this, but I wouldn’t actively repurchase, it’s nothing special.

Cussons Carex Love Hearts Hand Soap

I received this at an event last year, and loved having it in my bathroom, smelling just like the sherbet sweets I’m sad that it’s gone. I already had some Strawberry laces scented hand soap in a similar vain since before I had this – so I’ll be finishing that up before I buy another.

Repurchase: Maybe, I just buy what’s on offer.

Phew, that’s it for this month’s empties (we’re almost close to starting the other now this one is finally done!). Have you been on a using up-spree?

This months empties will be pretty sparse for me as I’ve finished so much off whilst away and gone through so many facemasks but I can’t be bothered to hoard it all and bring it home 😂 Xxx

I think that Colorista range are mostly for blonde hair as most semi permanent dies so even though I was tempted, I did stay away from them just to avoid hair dye disaster.

    • April 20, 2017 / 9:11 am

My Hair is Ombre blond and looked almost identical to what was the before shot on the box, I have a lot of experience in using coloured dyes so I’m always picky of making sure that my blonde is blonde enough.
They have two ranges within the colourista range – Pastels (blondes only) and Brights which work on Blondes as well as Dark Colours. That being said I don’t think I would recommend trying them, just because how much of a disastrous experience I have had!

Omg thank you so much for the review of the colorista!! I’ve been wanting to try it so badly and now I’m so worried. I read in the comments that your hair is ombre blond, my hair is dark all the way through so do you think maybe it would fade easier on dark hair? the difference in colour is an issue in and of its own haha, but I’m so concerned with the fact that it just wont fade!
    loved reading this x
    my latest post ♡

I wouldn’t recommend this colour at all, This one is classed as a pastel so wouldn’t stick to dark hair, I did try it from my natural mid brown roots to the ends and it didn’t take to the blonde at all.
Some colours classed as brights are suited for darker hairs, mostly the darker jewel toned pinks and greens, but I wouldn’t ever choose to use this range again. Plus it doesn’t spread very far. Depending on how long your hair is, I struggled to get one full application out of this tube.
Usually when using colours I use the range ‘Directions’ from La Riche – they’re much more reliable and I can get 3 applications out of a smaller sized pot! Again some of these colours will work on dark hair, some will only work on blonde or bleached hair. The darker pinks/greens/purples/blues tend to be what sticks, some bright ones do work but will go over a lot darker. After 5 years of dying my hair on and off with bright colours, La Riche is the brand I will always go back to
      xx

Ooooh ok thank you so much for the recommendation! Definitely going to try out La Riche ASAP, I had a fear the colorista would just be gimmicky. Thanks for all the help Rachael! xx

        • April 20, 2017 / 11:40 am

No problem, if you see a colour you like the look of and want an opinion as to whether it would work let me know, I’ve tried a lot of the La Riche range! x

I haven’t had a Body Shop haul for a while so I think I’m due one! Thank you 🙂 xx

  5. April 20, 2017 / 3:11 pm

Wait, was this JUST for the month of March or over a few months? How do you use up so many hair products?! It takes me probably 4 months to go through dry shampoo… although, I only use it maybe once a week.
Haha I have a bunch of Molton Brown toiletries too and they’re all pilfered from hotels. 😉
Hmm I’ve been contemplating whether I should include hand soaps in my empties. I probably should.

    • April 20, 2017 / 3:36 pm

Those batiste one was so bad you basically had to use quarter of the can at a time for it to make a difference! The
I tend to have a couple of different shampoos and conditioners on the go at once, but I’ve been washing my hair more often than normal thanks to the crappy dye I’m trying to get out of it, so I’m whizzing through shampoo and conditioner at twice the rate I normally would be instead of 2 washes a week im doing 4/5 at the moment 😒
We don’t get through hand soap all that quickly! This is probably one of the only ones which will come up this year!

  6. April 20, 2017 / 5:09 pm

The L’Oreal colours look like they’d be great but I heard so many people say it dried out and damaged their hair. I can’t believe it’s not washed out yet. Clearly just stains hair, so I’ll give it a miss. Xx

    • April 20, 2017 / 5:32 pm

Definitely, what ever pink you used, stick with that brand!
The dye itself wasn’t so bad, but thanks to all the washing I’ve had to do – and a light bleach bath on my hair, it’s really dry as a result of over washing and using clarifying shampoos with every wash. It’s now a horrible faint green that looks like I’ve spent too long in a swimming pool. Going to have to have it professionally fixed 😐

      • April 20, 2017 / 5:33 pm

Oh no that’s awful😔 Defo wont be using their awful dye then! Xx

Shame about the collab flamingo bottle i really wanted that to be good! I bloody love the carex handwashes! Such a big haul! Love the loreal comment ‘repurchase? Let me think’ 😂 xxx

  8. April 22, 2017 / 4:59 pm

I only recently discovered what a dry shampoo does. My mind was kinda blown. It was the Batiste but I am sure it isn’t the best in the market. Don’t think I’d necessarily purchase it but got it in a bag so I got to try it out.

I can’t believe how poor L’oreal have been about your hair situation! Really poor for such a big company. I loved the look of the shade and would have loved to have tried it on my hair but will now be giving the whole range a wide berth! Good job on finishing so many things up though! xx
