Winding Down

I knew this day would have to come, but it’s coming a bit sooner than expected. I’m winding down my posts for the next few months until after the wedding and honeymoon.

I’ve come to the realisation over the past month that I’m doing too much, keeping up with Monday-Friday blogging (and the odd weekend post here and there) and a shit tonne of wedding stuff on top of a full time job, I’m overloading, I want to enjoy the last six weeks and actually feel like I’m enjoying all the tasks I need to do, and the things I have to make – rather than them being something I have to do.

Some people have told me to stop blogging completely until after the wedding, but it is the one thing that’s stopping me from becoming an all consumed wedding obsessed Bridezilla and keeps me clutching onto a piece of normality. Blogging has been my “Zen Zone” for the past three years, and I don’t plan on letting go of it in the six weeks of my life when I probably need the most zen I can get hold of my hands on.

I already know I don’t have any free weekends in May, so how exactly I’m going to find some time to get some posts prepped for whilst I’m away I don’t know. I’ve done a massive brainstorm of all the things I want to post over the next 2-3 months, so it’ll be a case of seeing how many of them I can get done. I’m not usually planned at all when it comes to blogging, anything past a week is unusual – I don’t however want things to go stale or stagnant whilst I’m away. My blog is something I’m working really hard on and is something I’m extremely proud of. I’m actually relatively well organised for the next week but I need to wind down the frequency to give me time to tick those last wedding things off the list.

I have quite a decent bank of images saved up and I’m planning on spending some time over this bank holiday, four day weekend getting some pictures edited and then I can just write away as and when I can over the next month or so – I may even be able to find some half-written posts in my 80 drafts which I can say – oh yeah – I have full opinions of that product now and ready to shift that review out of the door (which will equally make me happy as those 80-90 drafts seem to tick up 4-5 a month and never deplete.

I’ve maintained a minimum of Monday-Friday all year (which has gone down from the daily blogging I did last year), and over the next few weeks I expect I’ll wind down to two or three posts a week. I have no idea, or plan for a schedule, some weeks there may be more, some there may be less – the whole seeing how things go scenario is scary! I know I don’t have to even say or justify that I’m cutting down on posts, I just feel guilty with the 500 or so individual daily readers that I now have to change up my structure without addressing it first.

Thank you to those people who have reached out and offered to do guest posts for me to help cover the three weeks I’m away completely from my blog. I’ve never taken one full week off from blogging in three years, let alone three, so the fact there’s some people who are helping me fill the gap is reassuring – and whilst I’m going to do my best to not check in during our honeymoon I might well end up peeking while I’m blow drying my hair or something in the evenings. There are still plenty of spaces left if you would like to do a blog post, I’d love for you to do one.

To my friends whose blogs I’m neglecting to read (or sometimes I read but don’t have time comment at the moment), I apologise and I miss reading all your posts, it had become a daily ritual! I’ll probably be going on a reading rampage whilst I’m relaxing on my sun lounger from our private villa pool in Bali, or when I get back from honeymoon, which right now feels like it’s forever away – the end of June. But knowing the next six weeks are going to go by fast, I bet the three week honeymoon goes even faster.

I’ve prided myself as always keeping up with blog comments and over the past few weeks I’ve let that slide a little, so that’s another thing I’m sorry for – if you’ve asked a question and I haven’t answered, at some point I will.

I know already people are going to say that they understand, so thank you in advance!

  1. Take the all the time you need honestly! I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone on here when I say we’d rather you don’t put too much on your plate and stress yourself out. Wedding planning is such a magical time, you should be completely in it and just enjoying it instead of piling on other things to worry about! Can’t wait till you let us know how everything goes with the wedding 🙂 I’d also be more than happy to guest post as well, anything to help you out Rachael!
