The Skincare that’s meant to be anything but Ordinary

I know I said not that long ago that hopefully this would be the end of my hauling, but I kind of forgot that I’d placed this order before I said that, so this was actually, technically purchased before – and just due to a heavy backload it took a long while to arrive.

The Ordinary is a sub-brand of Deciem, a skincare brand which has been making a huge splash across the beauty world. The Ordinary is high performance ingredients & treatments without the price tags that usually come attached to such premium clinical formulations. If you’ve heard of brand such as NIOD and Hylamide, then the Ordinary is the brand that’s at the cheapest end of the scale.

I’ve had the most painful stress breakouts over the past few weeks, and the spots that have come up have been huge and painful. Luckily whilst they have been big in size, they’ve been small in number, but I have been really, nervous about being left with spots & fresh dark scars just prior to the wedding, so I’ve bought some products that will hopefully get my skin under control, and stop me looking like a spotty teenager (thanks Dad for that comment). I have lots of skin problems I want to target and sort out, but it’s unlikely I can resolve them all at once, so for now I’ve started with some products which will hopefully keep new breakouts at bay, and help my skin replenish and heal up scars.

Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution – 240ml (£6.80)

I have a few Glycolic Acid toners, but none that have as high of a percentage as what this one from the Ordinary does – Pixi Glow tonic as a comparison is 5%, so almost double as much. Glow Tonic has never wowed me, but I feel like it’s something I’ve flittered in and out of using and not stuck to it long enough to see a change. Hopefully this higher concentration will leave me with noticeable changes. It’s worth noting this is a hell of a lot cheaper than pixi glow tonic, £6.80 for a 240ml bottle vs Pixi @ £18 for 250ml.

Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA – 30ml (£7.00)

Alpha Arbutin is serum which normally comes in a 1% concentrate, but in this case comes in a 2%. I’ve heard amazing things about this, which is formulated to help heal the appearance of spots and hyper-pigmentation. This is stated that water really effects the performance of this, so I’ll be using this as my last step at night time as an overnight serum to try and clear up marks I want to get rid of. The serum also contains Hyaluronic Acid so this sounds like it will keep the topped up with moisture.

 High-Adherence Silicone Primer – 30ml (£3.90)

Lastly less of a skincare item, and just a primer that’s actually meant to be phenomenal. I’ve heard incredible things about the two primers that the Ordinary released, but this one sounded better for my skin type over the other. I ended up buying 3 of these so I could qualify for free delivery (and it made it cheaper), so when I come to review I’ll be holding a giveaway no doubt for one of these. I’ve just finished up my last primer and I’m excited to give this a go next.

I’ll keep you posted on my skin recovery over the next month or so, I have really old scars thanks to mosquito bites on holiday that I’d like to see if this can help fade or remove.

That serum sounds perfect for healing my scars! I’ve only put off buying from this brand as I wasn’t too sure what each item did but that one sounds so up my street! xxx

I’ve seen so much of these on blogs and social media recently, but I had assumed they’d be much more expensive. I’m really surprised at how affordable they are and I’ll definitely consider buying them. I may wait for your review though!

Wow 7% AHA for a daily toner? Hardcore! I have a 10% from Paula’s Choice but it’s weekly. I definitely notice a difference when I use it.
I have a laundry list of items I want to try – cannot wait til that location (Deciem, the parent company) opens near me! They said in a couple of months. πŸ™‚ But if I can’t wait, there are actually a few locations not far from me… not sure why but they have like 4 bricks and mortar stores in Toronto.

      they’re toronto born aren’t they?
Hmm maybe it won’t be one I use daily, but I really don’t notice what 5% does, maybe every few days might do the trick I’ll have to experiment!

Yes they’re from Toronto but I had no idea they had bricks and mortar stores until recently! I hope they do well – it’s costly to operate physical retail locations. Especially when they’re selling these items so inexpensively!

Yep I bet while the hype is high they’ll do well, but it’ll be whether they can keep the interest up and I suppose become a well known brand outside of the beauty community!

I’ve heard lots about this company, and always assumed from the packaging that it’s a high end brand. I’m interested to hear what you think about this products, particularly the serum!

I really wanted to try the Glycolic acid but couldn’t find it being stock anywhere other than direct so ended up making a big order. I’m so intrigued by the brand as a whole. The bits Ive tried so far have been great so really hope you get on well with them xxx
