Base to Full Face Week : Clinique Lash Power Mascara + Giveaway

Base to Full Face Week : Clinique Lash Power Mascara + Giveaway

Clinique is a brand which has never really interested me, I know it’s a brand which has a really loyal bunch of followers and that’s always had me a little intrigued but there’s something about it which just lacks interest for me which has never led me to splash my cash on the products. When I received the Lash Power Mascara in my Look Incredible Deluxe box last month I was happy to have something from the brand to try. It wasn’t long before curiosity got the better of me and I found myself opening it early (I’m trying really hard to just have 1 or 2 mascaras on the go at once)

The first thing that I liked about the product was the outer tube, I’m not too familiar with Clinique’s packaging, but I believe a lot of the products may come in a similar patterned floral pastel coloured cardboard tube. The inner packaging lacks a bit of interest and has way less curb appeal to me than the outer packaging, just being in a slim silver tube with a chrome lid. It seems as if Clinique has repackaged this as it’s now in a darker charcoal packaging, but from what I can tell the mascara remains the same otherwise.

Lash Power is described by Clinique as their feathering mascara – the feathering look isn’t something to me that screams ‘power’, I would expect the term to align more with a great all rounder that’s both lengthening and volumising. The mascara feels small in tube size, however the packaging didn’t feel bulky so I wondered if it was ‘all in the mind’, however if I compare this to a few other brands Maybelline Mascaras tend to be about 9.5ml, MAC Mascara’s 8-9ml and YSL’s 7.5ml, which makes Clinique’s 5.5ml quite dinky, and expensive at £19.00.

Unscrewing the tube for the first time and inspecting the wand it looked small and comparing it against the wand from my Tarte Tartist mascara (which I’m actually loving more and more by the way) which I would consider an average size, and it’s not necessarily thinner, but it’s definitely not as long. The shape of the wand is quite ovoid, packed with quite a quite a dense amount of dense bristles.

This set of reviews was intended to go up last week, but I couldn’t make up my mind on my thoughts on this mascara, and wanted to give it some extra time. I found the formula of this really sticky feeling, and instead of doing what I think should be intended which is creating feathery, lengthened and separated look, it starts clumping my lashes together. Despite my knowledge that whilst some mascaras seem to get better over time if the formula is thinner, this already felt too thick and after two weeks of trying to make it work, it’s not getting any better, and I enjoy it less and less daily. It’s hard work applying this to the lashes and the wand sticks to the lashes as well as the formula, it ends up being a lot of effort for a mascara that I don’t even like the effect of.

Good news about the Clinique Lash Power Mascara is that it doesn’t flake or smudge, it adds an average amount of length but the effect it has on the lashes for me is often awful, when I featured this in my beauty box haul some people said that this mascara is their holy grail/one they go back to a lot, whilst I never want to see this again. No where near empty but you’ll see it in February’s trash.

I have this mascara from a beauty box but have not tried it yet (also don’t like having more than 2 mascaras open at once). This looks like something I wouldn’t like so it is gonna be interesting to try it. I usually give a mascara around 2 months from opening if I don’t like it at the beginning as some of them take a few weeks till formula gets less clumpy and sticky but I had one I just couldn’t bear even after that (a supermarket brand).

If some are thin and watery at the start I often find that they thicken up, I’ve never found one to the other way round though! I’m going to keep this for a few weeks and see how it is then, but I envisage it will be going to my empties pile straight after

I aaaalways struggle to find a mascara that I like so I usually just end up clinging to the same one and never trying any others! I’m currently loving l’oreal telescopic extra black, it’s really thin and never goes clumpy. That’s the one thing I hate about mascaras so I definitely don’t think I’d like the Clinique one either! X

Mascaras that don’t clump are a real struggle sometimes! Guess I’ll be giving this one a miss too

I havent tried this mascara, but it looks very clumpy and personally i dont like that effect. Honest review i like it

I like that it doesn’t smudge or flake but I’ve definitely seen you use mascaras that make your lashes look better than this. You have such long lovely lashes and this doesn’t do them justice! Have you tried Lancôme grandiose? That’s what I’m using now and I’m gonna review it soon as I’m pretty impressed! Xxx

I haven’t tried lash grandiose but I do love hypnose drama from Lancôme! It’s on my list ones I do definitely want to try, I just have to make a dent in all these beauty box ones first! Xx

I agree with you – Clinque isn’t a brand I am ever drawn to in Boots.. ! I don’t know why but I just never really choose to look there. Such a shame you didn’t like it, but at least you didn’t spend the full £19 on it! xx

I’ve only tried Clinique’s High Impact mascara (both reg and wp), since I keep getting them in GWPs, and I like it enough but not enough to buy full-size. Sorry to hear this one isn’t buy-worthy, either.

Not liking this on you! I’ve tried just about every Clinique mascara / lash base and they ALL make my lashes droop no matter what. I still have a bunch of gwp which I’m working my way through them… it’s never ending.

  9. February 17, 2017 / 11:15 pm

Wouldn’t be any use to me – my eyelashes are naturally quite long so really all that’s necessary is volume for me! Clinque has never really appealed to me as brand anyway.

I do like the length it gives you, it looks pretty but if the formulasnot right then it’s never going to sit well. I’ve tried anything from Clinique either. Maybe I’m a packaging snob but it doesn’t do anything for me x

This mascara gives you so much volume!! I do find that Clinique mascaras can be a bit hit and miss, but you win some you lose some!
