February 2017 My Little Box – Mountains

Please excuse the double post today, my My Little Box arrived later then everyone else’s seemed to this month (I peeked on instagram), and I hate putting up late as they feel irrelevent to me – and I already have my Base to Full face series scheduled for the week, so it’s slotting in as a bonus post!

I’d already taken a little peek at the theme this month, ‘Mountains’ – which when it’s arrived on a gloriously sunny day the apres ski theme feels a little belated as I’m admiring the spring flowers in my garden beginning to open. The box felt deceivingly light, and I was already thinking I might be missing something just by the weight of it, but it’s packed with small light goodies.

The french edition of the box featured the currently hugely popular ‘Little Book of Hygge’ (as I spotted on my friend Joyce’s post) this wasn’t included in the British edition, instead there’s a Get Cosy book created by My Little Box… it feels like the magazine they used to have and retired at the end of last year, just pocket sized. There’s also a cute ski print with the words ‘How You Climb a A Mountain is More Important than how you reach the top’.

The first item I spotted was a pretty little tin, inside it had a iron on badge style brooch with the words ‘Coeur de Glace’ (Heart of Ice), the badge is pretty, although I don’t have any coats this would be appropriate to attach it to. I love the tin, but it’s just that little bit too small to do anything with unless I plan on start making my own lip balm (I don’t).

Next up I spotted the item which came in collaboration with Stitch & Story with a needle hook & pattern to make you’re own chunky snood scarf. I’ve tried many times and I am terrible at knitting (embroidery is more my forte) however I might give this a go… next winter, I have enough to worry about pre-wedding and to be honest, scarf season will have past in the next few weeks! I did see that there was as a collaboration happening with Stitch and Story, and to be honest I was expecting more than a plastic needle when you still need the wool, and knitting needles to be able to actually do anything, the needle is arbitrary in the scheme of things!

Next, some mountain shaped post it notes, I ran out of post-its pre-Christmas as I was labelling everyone’s presents whilst wrapping as I forgot to buy tags. This weekend it became apparent I needed some more as we have a cupboard burst to the brim of wedding crap, and I have no idea what’s in any of the boxes or bags without rifling through everything, so immediately these are going to come in handy.

Lastly, a pair of navy socks with sparkly silver thread running through with the words ‘cold’ and ‘feet’ running on the back of each. These are adorable and feel really soft, It’s my hen party this weekend and apparantly I need some comfy shoes and footwear for ‘walking in a built up area’ so I’m going to take these with me as the feel nice and cosy

Onto the Beauty Bits, First up was the My Little Beauty item, with their ‘Fresh Kiss’ lip balm shaped like an EOS balm, but with a reddish flushed to it. Mine’s arrived a bit battered looking like it didn’t come sit in the mould well, however it’s not unusable. Has a faux-strawberry laces scent to it.

Benefit Porefessional mini… and I mean mini. I’ve had better same samples of this from magazines so I was a little disappointed to see this teeny sample, I was however only thinking the other day I’d like to try it again after never being that impressed with it a few years ago. I don’t mind the product, I just don’t think the sample is a great size considering the other items in the box. Apparently this is worth £10, (verified that is the case on Boots) if you’re paying that much for 7.5ml, you crazy.

Last is the Polaar Icy Magic Instant Eye Energizer, with a cooling metal ball to depuff eyes, reduce dark circles and weirdly, stimulate eyelash growth. I normally use these were I’d put concealer, no where near my actual eyelashes, have I been applying these wrong forever? I’m actually going to keep this aside for honeymoon as I may need some help with jetlag! Full size product worth £19.90, this better be good, any I’ve bought in the past have been about a fiver!

I do think for the third time in a row there’s more effort in the extras than the beauty products, and I’m starting to consider this more as a lifestyle subscription rather than a beauty box, and if I’m being honest I’m probably still only subscribed to it for the blog, rather than my own interests – my house is full enough with the knick-knacks that have come with the box, but it’s usually my most popular post of the month for new readers – hence why I’m still subscribed, I’ve nearly hit the trigger several times in the past few months and unsubbed.

What do you think of this months box?

I pulled the plug on my boxes over a year ago now and now and again I’ll see something on a blog and think oh I miss that – like I love the sparklyrics socks – but I just can’t part with my money to be disappointed haha

Yeah that’s why I ended up pulling the plug on glossy box and birchbox, I may as well have burned a tennner each month I hated everything pretty much that came in it. I don’t dislike this one quite that much, I think it’s a bit lost, like it’s trying to be both a beauty box and a lifestyle box and it doesn’t do a great job of either, it used to be stronger on the beauty front and have one or two good lifestyle items but now it’s a bit wishy washy in what it’s trying to be!

I was waiting to link your blog post 😂 usually yours is earlier than mine. Strange that the UK box doesn’t have the same booklet.

I totally agree with you on the benefit porefessional. I still don’t understand the hype. To me, the only primer that actually does real oil control is Sofina Primavista long keep. Benefit is crazy to charge £10 for that small thing.

I’ve never heard of that, but I’m about to research it immediately!
Yeah, the fact they made their own booklet with the same usual rubbish in it made me laugh, just a resized version of what they already had!

This looks amazing! I love the idea of a lifestyle box, I feel like the market is missing that! That badge is so dreamy too! xxx

  4. February 13, 2017 / 10:31 pm

I love the badge and the socks! The extras are cute too but I’m with you, if it’s a beauty subscription box, that should be the main focus. I also understand why you are in two minds about whether to unsubscribe or not haha x

It’s kind of not strong enough on either side to class itself as either a lifestyle
Or beauty, o guess some people will like that, but it ends up a bit of a grey area for me, I’d rather they did al the beauty bits fantastically and maybe have one good lifestyle item rather than lots of small bits, or vice versa.

I keep little tins like that for absolutely no reason… lots of them used to hold mints but now I have no idea what to use them for! XD I too, keep thinking perhaps I’ll make my own lip balm… haven’t yet.
Knitting is so rewarding!!! I encourage everyone to knit… 😛 Hmm but too bad it doesn’t include the materials. I guess they figure you can choose your own wool.
LOL the “cold feet” socks, I took it as a double entendre, especially after you just mentioned about your wedding! 😉

    • February 13, 2017 / 11:17 pm

Haha I didn’t even put two and two together, maybe I should wear them the other way round so it’s more of a caveman statement to be safe, feet cold.
I’ve tried to knit, I want to knit but I can’t do it! I do enjoy cross stitching though. What they did do was give you a discount Code to go get the wool for £15 instead of £30 a bit of swizz!

Your photos are always the best! So gorgeous!!

  7. February 14, 2017 / 8:31 am

I always think these boxes are cute and the themes are gorgeous but it’s definitely not for me. If i were to subscribe to a box I’d want it to be mainly makeup and skincare. Those socks are ridiculously cute though, they make me incredibly happy! Xxx

It is definitely more lifestyle related isn’t it! who would pay £10 for that tiny porefessional! definitely crazy! the eye roller looks intriguing I’d love to see what you think to it! xx

    These boxes always look incredible!

  10. February 14, 2017 / 11:12 pm

I can definitely see where you’re coming from – I wouldn’t ever class this as a beauty box going by the samples you were sent. I cant help but still adore My Little Box though, and have been wanting to sub to them for ages but keep thinking where my money could be better spent (full sized make up being the main culprit). I just think it is the cutest brand!

These boxes always look so nice, but I know I wouldn’t be fond of all the things in it, and so I can’t commit and subscribe, but I do like to see what people get each month!

  12. February 15, 2017 / 7:48 pm

I signed up for this when they first launched and ended up cancelling it as although they boxes were really cute, I was finding I wasn’t really using anything in it!
I can’t believe that tiny little sample is £10!! absolutely robbing!!

    beautiful photos xxxx

    • February 15, 2017 / 8:10 pm

Thanks Lora, I know what you mean – half of the box is tat that fills up my house and I have to declutter every 6 months, I just subscribe for the blog now haha

      • February 15, 2017 / 9:11 pm

I love looking at the contents of boxes on blogs so I’ll definitely be happy if you keep subbing! xx

Seriously feel like I need to sub to this box everytime I read one of your reviews. You could use the tin for earrings when you travel maybe?
Those socks are gorgeous too and they look so warm, let’s hope they don’t give you cold feet though ay?!
Also, that Polaar night cream is some of the best night cream I have EVER used, love it but it’s so hard to get a hold of the full size version!

I do think the individual items look cute but they’re not enough to tempt me to subscribe! And I totally agree with you that a knitting needle without wool is neither use nor ornament!
