I’ve had the NARS Pure Sheer Lip Treatment since August, after I received it in my Look Incredible Subscription. From a lip balm point of view I’ve been in a pretty exclusive relationship with the NUXE Reve de Miel lip balm, but after 2 years of that gorgeous pot of nourishing joy it finally ran out and I turned to other things in my collection to fill the void, and this came out first.
The Pure Sheer Lip Treatments from NARS are available in Paloma – this orange toned bullet, and Bianca a frosty white pearl. I think at one point there may have been more, but it seems as if the line has been consolidated to just these two as they’re the only ones on the NARS website. Priced at £19 for just 1.7g of product (to put that into perspective a Carmex Chap Stick is 4.25g and a Fresh Lip Treatment is £20 for 4.3g) – makes this one pricey lip balm.
The lip treatment is formulated with Vitamin E, Polar Berries and Mango Butter, and is described as lightly tinted for a nautral colour. The Balm also contains SPF 15 which makes a nice finishing touch. The colour in this is absolutely pointless, on my hand it’s barely visible, and over the natural pigment of my lips it’s non existant.
The main problem I have with this lip treatment is that it just doesn’t last – initially it feels like a very comfortable and light balm, but after ten minutes it’s just gone, and don’t even think about eating or drinking as it will disappear instantly. I can cope with a lip balm that I have to reapply frequently if it’s cheap enough to warrant it (although every ten minutes is frustrating), but after just a week in my handbag I’m a third of the way (maybe even slightly more) through the super small product. To add insult to injury, the constant reapplication hasn’t seen any improvement for my dry lips – and at the end of the week they’re feeling more sore than they were at the start.
Looking up reviews of this it seems like there seems to have been more of a problem with Paloma with an average of a 1 star review on their website, where as Bianca is much higher. I definitely don’t like this product enough to take a gamble on Bianca being any better for such a small sized product, and I’m not sure the frosty white lip trend followed me into the 2000’s let alone in 2017.
Have you tried these? What are your favourite lip balms

I would never pick that up but I actually love how it looks on!! Great review xx
Thank you x
This looks amazing! I really want to try it when i get paid x
You’ve got such a lovely blog! I’d love if you could visit my blog and maybe even follow my blog. 🙂
too bad that this is not long lasting ! it is really expensive!
Only “spendy” lip balm I’ll go with is the Jack Black ones. But those are less than $10 US and last a long time. They also work great.
Ive heard great things about the jack black one, I don’t think we can get it here but I’ll do some digging!
Too bad it doesn’t help your lips!
Yep for something so expensive I definitely expected more!
It’s a pity that such a pricey item was such a disappointment. I still swear by Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream for dry lips. It works wonders!
Do you use the 8 hour cream lip balm or just the normal 8 hour? I tried the regular one and couldn’t stand the smell and didn’t find it did a lot for me!
I use the actual Eight Hour Cream. 😊 I use the fragrance free version though. I also can’t stand the smell of the original.
May have to go check that out
Hmm, this is a complete pass for me based on your review. I hate lip balms that don’t last at least an hour.
My go to lipbalm (untinted) is from Dr Hauschka (lip care stick). I also really like good old Lip Smackers (especially the Dr. Pepper one – it provides a nice cherry tint).
Lip Smackers aren’t that easy to get hold of here, very occassionally I see them in Primark – but not very often. I’d love the Dr Pepper one that’s my fave fizzy drink!
Yes it’s a pass, not only is it super expensive for a balm but it’s got no lasting power!
Thank you for sharing. Great post!
