Boots Haul – January 2016

Ben dangerously left me alone in Boots whist he went to the toilet whilst we were out shopping for wedding rings in the 2nd. When he returned I had a handful of items and Ben went “oh you’ve been shopping”. Correct, let this be a lesson to you husband to be, don’t leave me near makeup unattended. He then followed by the statement at the till “you bought stuff that was small enough that you didn’t need a basket but it still cost a lot of money”. Correct again Ben.

The first thing I collected was actually an order which I’d placed on Christmas Eve, I took a quick look at the sale late at night when it just launched and saw a set of one of my favourite perfumes heavily reduced. I spent my hard-earned Boots points on the Paco Rabanne Olympea set, I’d had bought the set around November time 2015 and had used all of the perfume up by about June! The perfume was a 50ml bottle and the set also came with a body lotion which I still have from the last set and totally forgot about. I’m glad I ordered it as I suspected it wouldn’t be in stock by the time I got to the shop and I was correct. It was reduced from £56 to £36.

I then started wandering through the makeup aisles and found an Essie Gel Couture Polish that I’ve been searching for for ages. This shade is called Twill Seeker a dusky deep taupey purple with a icy green shimmer. It’s not normally my kind of thing, but it’s one of the few shades from the Essie Gel Couture range which isn’t a pure cream.

I then saw a new launch from Seventeen with their Skin Wow concealer – the stand was plastered with amazing reviews of the product and I decided to give it a go. It’s style very much like the much loved YSL touche eclat. I don’t really ever use these brush kind of concealers but I’m interested in trying them out. This came in two colours fair and medium, I got the fair shade as I want to use it most for brightening under the eyes and contouring areas – they didn’t have samples out to check the colours so I gambled with fair being the right one!

I next headed to Nyx which is where the main bulk of shopping was done! First up I picked up their HD finishing Powder – I’ve had my eye on this for a while and I’ve almost finished up the powder got recently from Soap and Glory as it’s crumbled everywhere and become very messy and I’ve wasted a lot.

I then wanted to get one of their Lip Lingerie liquid lipsticks to see how they compared with the Soft Matte Lip Creams and to put it in my liquid lipstick post. This shade was the only one I liked the look of, most were totally bleh nudes to me. This is the shade 02 Embellishment, a lilac toned dark taupe.

Something I’ve wanted to get since getting really into glitter eyes in the past month or so was some of their Glitters to see how they compared comfort wise to the MAC ones I’ve tried. Sadly they only had 2 shades left, a bright blue and a pastel pink.

Then I spotted their Lid Lingeries – I’ve never heard of these before but I swatched the white which I thought would be a great inner corner colour. I’ve been looking for something that would really be bright and icy for the inner corner and I think this would be great. I’ve never seen or heard any one talk about these so I’m curious to give it a try. This was the shade White Lace Romance, I swatched the glitters over this and it made a really good base for them and stuck in place on my arm until I washed it off.

I returned a few days later to Boots when i needed to kill some time and was on the hunt for some discounted sleek sets. Unfortunately it seemed like that was the one brand that was entirely cleared out of! I picked up a Soap and Glory set that was reduced to £5 which came with 4 minis in the sugar crush scent and a shower puff. I’m determined to find one product I like from soap and glory (you’ll know if you’ve been reading my blog for a while I either seem to hate things or be allergic to them) and thought this mini set might make a good place to start, and I much prefer the sugar crush scent to their normal scent.

Finally I heard fleur de force talk about this in her new in beauty January video and wanted to go get it and try it out. This is a clarifying conditioner from the L’Oréal extraordinary oil range (a personal fave). You use a heavy dose of this in the place of both your shampoo and conditioner. I’ve never tried anything like this so I’ll be sure to report back it has me intrigued!

That’s it for now I do have a few pieces on their way from Amazon so I might do a mini collective haul when they arrive. But I think I have a fair amount of stuff to keep me going for a while!

I love the NYX powder and lip lingeries. They are great! How do you like them? πŸ™‚

    • January 10, 2017 / 9:58 am

I’ve only tried the lip lingerie once so far, liked it but started feeling quite dry after s few hours compared to other liquid lips – jury is still out! Xx

It does dry matte so it would be better if your lips were in a good condition beforehand. I love lip lingeries. They are nice and longwearing πŸ™‚

The Liquid Lingerie shade is SO YOU! I’ve got a SMLC and I’m not the biggest fan tbh, the shade I have is too pale and patchy unfortunately. The glitters look gorgeous and I can’t wait to see that nail polish in action!

I have 2 smlc that I love and 2 that I don’t like so much they seem to be hit and miss depending on shades and oddly the darker shades which are normally the iffy ones are the ones I like most!

      • January 10, 2017 / 11:45 am

From what I gather it’s some of the lighter, paler shades that are more patchy.

That Twill Seeker looks beautiful! I can’t wait to see how you like all the NYX products. For me it’s a brand that I always look at the products and never seem to actually buy anything.

Great picks! That Essie shade looks super pretty!

  5. January 10, 2017 / 2:48 pm

Great post! Looks like you got a lot of awesome stuff.

I had so much stuff from the sales and I decided I was gonna do a video. The lighting was so appalling when I came to edit it but I’d put everything away and started using it now I’m in a complete dilemma haha! I do love the boots fragrance coffrets at this time of year tho! I picked up the COACH one and o love it! Xx

    • January 10, 2017 / 8:05 pm

Ooh I didn’t see the coach one in my boots, I almost bought another chloe one but ended up getting one on amazon instead!
Why not do a first impressions haul, and show stuff being used and mini reviews?

  7. January 10, 2017 / 4:21 pm

Haha, this is girl gone wild, Boots edition! XD Ben should learn to never leave you unattended in there… the statement “you bought stuff that was small enough that you didn’t need a basket but it still cost a lot of money” made me LOL! Doesn’t he know small things are the most costly? πŸ˜†
Funny you bought Paco Rabanne Olympea – I just got a sample of that from Sephora. I chose it based on the description of the scent – I think I’ll like it.
The Essie polish looks really pretty – reminds me of “For the Twill of it” from their regular line (even the name is similar).

    • January 10, 2017 / 8:03 pm

It’s my second bottle of Olympea I love it!
Ooh I’d not heard of that but does sound like it’s definitely been inspired by the regular shade!

  8. January 10, 2017 / 10:35 pm

God, I’m a sucker for Soap and Glory too. Absolutely love the smells and my boyfriends always compliments me on smelling nice after using one of their products. πŸ˜€ Can’t go wrong!
