Garnier Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash: First Impressions

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash

It was only a week or so ago that I was thinking that I was surprised the Micellar trend hadn’t made it’s way into the realm of gel cleansers. So stepping into Boots on New Years Eve and seeing a whole stand of exactly that from Garnier had me feeling like they’d read my mind. I was excited that the transition product had also come from Garnier, as they’re the makers of my favourite Micellar Water – so naturally I’d want to try their offerings first. So, meet the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash.

This is brand spanking new so I wanted to get a first impressions post on this up relatively quick as I’m sure there might be several people who will be curious if they spot it. This gel wash came in two versions, the regular pink, and the green topped one for sensitive skin. I often find myself purchasing the sensitive skin version of waters, even though my skin isn’t particularly sensitive. But I opted for the regular version this time round, it’s so new that it’s not even on the Boots website yet… I can’t find my receipt but I think this was around £3.50 – I’m unsure whether that’s their regular price or an introductory price. It feels a little cheaper than other cleansers from Garnier which are around the £4-5 mark.

The cleanser comes with a nice pump sized top and seems to dispense the perfect amount of product. I’ve experimented over the past few days with how much is the right amount of product and I’ve not needed to go back in to get more product just using one pump.

The Garnier Micellar Cleansing Gel Wash is a slightly milky colour, it almost looks like the kind of colour you get when balms or gels emulsify when they come into contact with water. So far this has done a really great job of removing makeup with little effort and great ease, even my extremely stubborn Illamasqua Precision Ink which is requires a lot of rubbing with a soaked Micellar Water pad seems to come off a little easier with this.

Past the fact it removes makeup really well, I’ve failed to notice it’s done anything else noticeable to the skin. This might make a good first step cleanse before using another cleanser which does a good job at other things but not necessarily makeup removal – my Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleanser springs to mind, although I have just run out of that on Monday, so I didn’t get chance to try the duo together.

This is pegged as fragrance free, but I think what they mean by that really is no added fragrance, this does have a little bit of a faint bleachy scent, although I haven’t found that irritating over the past 5 days. It’s just not the most pleasant smell.

I imagine this is going to be the kind of cleanser that will be available everywhere, including supermarkets – I’ve noticed recently when perusing aisles for some own brand products to review and try there’s very little on the shelves cleanser wise when it comes to supermarkets. Micellar Waters seem to be readily available to pick up. Might this be a cleanser that I choose to use every day week in week out? Probably not. Would it be a great alternative to pick up when you’re out of your favourite and you need to pick up something that does the job when you don’t have time and you’re doing the weekly shop? Absolutely.

Have you spotted this new Micellar Gel from Garnier yet? Are you intrigued to give it a go?

Yeah, first impressions of it that it isn’t delivering on any other front… if you have other cleansers that you love that don’t remove makeup well and want something cheap to do the job first then it’s a great option! xx

This is the first I’ve seen/heard of this, so glad I did too! I’m a big fan of the original cleanser so I hope this does start rolling out more!

I went in a few days before Christmas to the same boots and this definitely wasn’t in stores, was on NYE though so it’s definitely just hitting shelves!

I haven’t tried this one. I don’t think this works better than my Neutrogena gel wash scrub. But I heard some good stuff about their miscelar water from Garnier in pink package 🙂 nice post tho

Interesting. I haven’t spotted this one yet but love their miscellar water!

I am a 100% cleansing oil girl. Not a fan of using as pad to swipe on my face. That mechanical cleansing feeling? I do enjoy trying out the cleansing water samples from MLB though. Happy to read your verdict😉

I still can’t get on the cleansing oil wagon, keep trying the ones I have but they just feel so heavy to me afterwards! I’m a micellar lover out of laziness most of the time!

I just tweeted you my drugstore favourite 😉 otherwise, the Shu Uemura green tea cleansing oil is my love (been using that for many years, I got bored lol, but I do still love that)

I’ll have to hunt down Biore, i’ve only ever seen their nose strips here! I’ve heard great things about the SU through stashy – so pricey though for someone who can’t seem to find a oil she likes!

Hmm now the micellar water thing is getting out of hand. It’s so typical – take something popular and beat it to death. The whole point of micellar water is that you don’t need to lather up and rinse so it was quick and doesn’t strip the skin. To me, this is a pointless product. I use cleaning oil, then wipe any residue with micellar water – I don’t need a gel wash…

I kinda agree, however it does make a good partner product for cleansers that don’t work well at removing makeup. I think for those with sensitive skins who might struggle to find a cleanser that doesn’t irritate it might work well as a very budget friendly option but it does feel like they’re milking the cow of every drop! Still don’t like cleansing oils keep trying the ones in my drawer periodically!

I have seen many say how good this product it. Personally I react to products like that and I have to end up spending lots of money on expensive products because my skin is such a pain! Great post xx
