Face Mask Friday #27 – Monu Hydrating Mask

Monu Hydrating Mask

EDIT: this went up a day early, clearly isn’t Friday yet whoops!

This winter, more than any other that I can remember is really effecting my skin. I’ve been pulling lots of new things out from my collection to try and predominately anything that’s listed as for dry skin gets bumped to the top of the ‘rescue my skin’ list to try. I’ve had this generous sized same from Monu in my collection for a while but hadn’t tried it until a few weeks ago.

Monu is a brand that I’ve only ever tried via beauty boxes, but have never had a mask from them to try before. Monu describe this as a moisture rich mask with royal jelly and evening primrose oil to rehydrate dry skin. At the moment my skin seems to get dry in the evenings, but still oily through the day – when I take my makeup off I feel like my skin is lacking hydration and I’m doing my best to put things back into my skin that won’t aggrovate the oiliness.

The texture of this mask is kind of weird, It’s comes out as a thick white cream and applies kind of like a clay, it’s almost opaque but never fully dries. The bottle instructs you to leave it on for 10-15 minutes, I’ve been wearing it anywhere between 15 minutes and an hour – whilst I’ve been on a massive reorganisation of my spare room/beauty cupboard as I’ve been trying to declutter and tidy. Sadly it leaves me wondering what the hell this is doing.

The first time I applied this I put on a relatively thin layer, enough that you could see that the cream was an opaque white colour – but not so heavy that you couldn’t see my skin colour poking through. I washed it off and noticed nothing instantly, giving it a chance to impress me and show me results by the morning, I couldn’t notice what it had done. I repeated trying it again a few days later, this time applying a thicker layer to see if I just hadn’t used enough product, but sadly – no it still didn’t deliver the results I wanted.

I’ve definitely tried much better hydrating masks in the past than the Monu Hydrating Mask, the Garnier Sheet Mask which was my last face mask friday post for example did an great job of injecting some moisture back to my skin, and the OZ Naturals Amino Hydration Mask is also one I’ve revisited several times since reviewing it last year that does a great job of making my skin feel plumped up. At £30 for a full size bottle, you can definitely find better, and cheaper elsewhere, sorry monu, but it’s a mo-no from me.

I always find monu products a bit odd. I got a priner from them recently that seems more like a face cream! At least this was a sample size and you didn’t buy the product, as spending £30 would be disappointing😊 x

You got me confused! I was like, I know this is a short week but it surely can’t be Friday already?! 😛
Cream masks are hit and miss for me… most like misses. I don’t see a lot of difference in my skin – neither immediately after nor long term. One that I did like was Clarins HydraQuench mask – it made my skin feel plumper.

Yeah when I woke up this morning and saw your face mask friday post has been published I was like oh shit, but never mind!
Yep agreed most don’t seem to deliver much, I think the only one I really love is the Blue Corn one from Body shop, whilst it’s not a pure cream it’s closest to it! I’ll have to check that one out, my stash is starting to be depleted!
