Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Gravity

The past few months have been about experimenting with colours out of my comfort zone, I never used to be the person who would always wear the same shades of ‘naked’ browns – but since starting blogging – and for a short while it was all that a lot of brands seemed to be releasing I fell into a bit of a rut with makeup. Since getting my Violet Voss Palette mid way through the year – colours have been coming back into my routine and I’ve been trying to take it one step further and pick colours I don’t have and playing with things I’d normally say ‘aren’t me’.

One of my friends has a theory that there’s not a lip colour that doesn’t suit me, and that there’s no one else she knows who can rock any colour lip like me – a theory I’ve been happy to test and so far I think there’s only one lipstick shade I’ve found that I don’t like on me – that OFRA one I featured in my product regrets. I picked this shade with the help of Jen Gerard – owner of Gerard Costmetics whilst I was at the Beauty Bay event, and it couldn’t be more unique within my collection.

So as always, let’s start with packaging – the tube is a gorgeous frosted effect with a chromey gold lid – you could be fooled for thinking they’re metal and glass – but they’re acrylic and plastic – which keeps the product, nice, light and handbag friendly. In the tube the shade Gravity looks way more purpley than how it dries down on the lips.

The Hydra Matte formula is a liquid lipstick that comes with a normal size and shaped applicator. They’re super pigmented and just glide on the lips with ease – with this shade in particular whilst it dries and locks into place like a matte, I think this shade has a slight sheeny finish which catches the light really nicely – it doesn’t look flat – but it doesn’t budge at the same time.

I wanted to refer to Gerard Cosmetics for how they described the colour as it’s a tough one – are you ready for this? “An planetary grey that reminds us of the outer limits space. A super eye-catching color with cool tones that will keep you grounded.” Little to no help there – I’d describe it as a mid grey with mauvey lilac undertones

I’m seriously impressed with the pigmentation and lasting power of this – the wear time of this is pretty solid at around 4 hours before I start noticing wear, however because it’s such an eyedraw of a totally un-natural colour it’s definitely a colour you have to keep topped up and looking pristine or it’ll look obviously wrong! I’m happy to have another colour to try out from this range too which has still to be put to the test.

I am suprised that you like it. I have mine in shade West Coast and it was awful and I am going to trow it in a bin. You have review on my blog if you want to see my experience with Gerrard Cosmetics and it is wierd that everyone was talking about it for several months and now nobody talks about it :-). For me it is sticky, patchy, bad smell, pricy and bad quality lipstick there are so much better products out there.

Hmm maybe it varies colour to colour, I’ll admit I haven’t really tried out the other two that I got yet, but this one is absolutely fine! I’ll take a look at your post! Xx

Yea I don’t care about brands that have some good and some bad colours. I think that all the colours have to be the same quality for the same price. So that is what I won’t repurchase any of the hydra matte lipsticks anymore.

I agree, you can try one amazing formula buy into the product and get 5 more that are no where near as good! One good or one bad can be totally misleading to the product and brand!

Yea I agree. I also tried their purple colour of hydra matte and was awful and patchy. I don’t know the name anymore because I was so dissapointed that I throw it in a bin. And then I realised that people were talking liss about their hydra matte lipsticks. I bought 2 of them for the price of 4 of Nyx Lingerie that I think are much better quality. That is my opinion. But the setting sprays are good from Gerrard Cosmetics but also over priced.

Never heard of this brand before. New launch? Don’t see this one in Sephora either.

LOL Gerard Cosmetics’ description of this shade is just ridiculous! 😆 Gerard Cosmetics is one of those brands I can’t decide if is a fly by night brand or what. I hate their packaging… even their name, wth. You can pull this shade off but it’s not for me! I’d love to walk into the office rocking this one day though, just to see what people say. 😛

For how long Gerard Cosmetics have been around I feel like their selection is a little limited still! I don’t mind the packaging – although it is a bit gordy – but I agree not a big fan of the name. I get it’s named after the owner but it’s not the prettiest name!
People have stopped commenting on when I’ve changed my hair colour or wear an out of the usual lip shade now, when I walked in with the green slice around Halloween people evidently noticed but was like she’s at it again
