Soap and Glory Kick Ass Powder Review

Soap and Glory Kick Ass Powder review

After my instant disappointment with Soap and Glory’s Supercat liner, I must admit I had low hopes for the Soap and Glory Kick Ass Powder which I picked up at the same time.

I actually ended up picking up the wrong S&G powder in store, I’d meant to pick up one hell of a blot instead of Kick Ass, but decided to try it out anyway and see how it performed, it could have been destiny after all. The Kick Ass Powder is described by Soap and Glory as an instant retouching pressed powder, and is definitely at the upper limit of high street/drugstore prices at £12. For that price I do have high expectations, the pan size doesn’t feel that big to the eye, with 7.5g of weight. If I compare that against other powders, Rimmel Stay Matte is 14g (£3.99), and a MAC Pressed powder comes in at £21 for 12g. Comparatively this makes it only marginally cheaper than a MAC powder at £1.60 per g vs MAC at £1.75 per gram.

The packaging of this product is very nice, as I said in my Supercat liner review, I’m a fan of the styling for the most part of Soap and Glory’s products… The quality of the casing feels very nice with a mirror tucked in the lid. It feels like a nice product to keep on you for on the go touch ups – which I guess with it’s instant retouch claims is what it’s really designed for. The pan when new has a embossed effect with the words ‘Instant Retouch’ emblazoned across it.

The powder is very finely milled on first impressions, but is quite yellow toned. I’m used to using a more translucent coloured powder, however this does leave an intitial yellow cast to my skin. I’ve been using this both as a setting powder in the morning, and occasionally as a retouching powder to see how it performed, I find if I leave it for a while after initial application in the morning and let it sink into my foundation the colour seems to self-adjust and match up. This is quite a cakey powder I’ve noticed yet again on intial application I’ve noticed it clings around areas like the nose, it seems to be another quality that evens itself out over 20 minutes or so. In the mornings I’m often left thinking – crikey, my skin looks weird, but by the time I’ve driven to work everything has sank in and become one with one another.

This leaves a satin finish to the skin, it doesn’t go completely matte. I’ve also found it’s not the best powder for oil control, however it’s not the worst that I’ve tried either. As a retouching powder, that yellow tinged colour does add a bit of coverage back to the skin, help remattify and make the skin look a little fresher.

One of the things that has disappointed me is how long it’s lasted, I haven’t had this long at all, and I’ve already hit pan on it… significantly and I’ve not been close to reaching for this every day. The powder seems to be packed really loosely and gives quite a lot of kick-back when getting it onto a fluffy becca brush I like to apply my face powder with. Now I’m at the pan, every time I stick my brush in, it crumbles around the edges really easily.

Overall I like this, I don’t love it… and to be honest I think given how long it’s lasted vs how much it costs & how big the pan is it doesn’t offer good value at all. I’m still intrigued to hear their blotting powder as I’ve heard amazing things about it’s ability to oil control so I’m willing to give that a chance to impress me. Whilst this one hasn’t been a total flop, it’s another disappointing S&G product for me.

    Great post 🙂 🙂 It’s annoying when products don’t last as long as you’d expect x x

Such a shame it didn’t work as well as you’d hoped, I love S&G products, I definitely recommend their Peach Party blusher/bronzer! x

Another fairly disappointing s and g product! I tried their heck of a blot foundations in store to get a colour match and they are all super yellow toned which just does not suit me at all! I think I’ll give up attempting their makeup which is a Shame! Xx

Too bad it’s another disappointment. I always read such great things about Soap & Glory though. I hear what you mean about it probably packed loosely and kicking up a lot of product – I find a lot of powder gets wasted that way. I hope you’ll like the One Heck of a Blot when you do choose to get it… eventually?

Yes will probably end up waiting for another offer like they did when I bought the last two products, think they were on 2 for £15 on soap and glory or I’ll wait for a general 3 for 2 in boots given the disappointment!
