Sephora Formula X Legend – Swatch & Review

I’m blasting through the recently acquired collection of Formula X polishes – this time it’s Legendary and its one that I must admit I looked and thought, I could probably pop this one in my giveaway box – I have loads like this, but curiosity got the better of me, the outer plastic was torn off and it was on my nails before I knew it.

The reason I didn’t think I was going to keep the shade Legend is because it looks a lot like a shade a lot of brands seem to have now. One shade that springs to mind as similar is H&M’s Intergalatic – and now I’ve put the bottles side by side they are pretty similar with Legend edging pollibly a bit of a darker purplier hue|. They both have a gorgeous navy purple duochrome effect and right in the corners you can see flashes of bright yellow gold and orange. From experience I know that rarely does that unusual flash ever actually transfer to the nails and they tend to either apply more navy or purple depending on the individual polish. I was suspecting that Legend might come off more on the purple side as it looked more that way in the bottle, but it actually turned out it to be more unique than I expected.

Applying this it went on quite nicely – one coat looked really patchy but a second evened everything out perfectly. I was surprised to see that on the nails it was a dark burgundy – almost starting to edge towards the territory of a brown depending on the light. The fleck in the polish shifts between being a washed out icy blue and more silvery. I thought it might be the evening light and it was looking a bit darker than how it would in daylight – but nope it looked pretty much of burgundy. It’s not a shade I would have ever picked up as I’m not a massive red polish wearer (classic I know, but I just never reach for reds!), and I must admit this wasn’t the shade that was going to begin convincing me. It lacked anything that attracted me to it in the bottle and forcibly remove that seal an keep it for my own.

If you’ve been reading my Sephora Formula X reviews you’ll know that I’ve found performance of them so far with a lot to be desired, and this one yet again is no exception. I’m pleased to say that this one is moderately better than the normal 1 day or under wear time I’ve experienced so far – but it’s not a whole lot better for the price that these come in at with 2 whole days before it starts doing it’s disappearing peeling trick. I’ve since used the new base coat & topcoat with other polishes as I was starting to wonder if it was them rather than the actual polishes (despite them being Formula X and you’d think they’d work well together) but they’re fine by themselves – it’s these darn colours! I have 2 more shades left 2 review one a metallic, which I have already tried once and have had similar problems with – and a cream polish, I’m hoping the cream is going to be a lot better than what I’ve experienced so far – as any special effects ones which a black cap have basically been a total waste of time. Yet another polish which has yet to achieve a ‘legend’ status. I’m 99% sure any of the black capped ‘special effects’ polishes from Formula X have been discontinued as a whole, so you can no longer get your hands on it.

It seems with most of my reviews on these so far I’m not the only one in the ‘Formula X is Pretty, but Shitty’ camp, as everyone so far has said pretty much that they’ve liked the colours/effects but have similar problems with performance. I’m still searching for a Formula X Advocate who can tell me what the secret to these polishes is, if that’s you please let me know!

I’ve worn a couple of the Formula X polishes and haven’t had any issues! You have me curious to try the newer ones – I received a couple last Christmas that I still haven’t tried. But yes, this colour is pretty but sorry the formula isn’t crapola.

I think I have one or two FX polishes but it/they remain untried. For whatever reason they just haven’t called to me, and I’ve never bought one directly from Sephora. I’m always a little tempted when they go on sale, though.

That said, this color is gawgeous. I love it! Too bad the formula isn’t great, though.

Oooh, this shade is so pretty, but I guess it’s because burgundy shades are right up my alley! So sad that the Formula X polishes never work for you, though.

This is such a pretty shade. I think I only have one or two polishes from them but for whatever reason I don’t reach for them that much. Maybe because they just don’t last that long when I wear them?..

Such a pretty shade. I’ve never bought nail polish until now because I never did my own nails. It’s like foundation? Oh yeah, tried them ALL. Nail polish? I don’t know what to do! Do I spend 10.00 on OPI or 30.00 on Dior or does it not matter? Perhaps I should stop chewing up my cuticles so I can have enough confidence to put some nail polish on! OMG

Yes! Or maybe try some newer ones? I suck at painting my nails and they’re easy for me to use for some reason lol
