Beauty #TBT – OPI Jade is the New Black

OPI Jade is the New Black

Spring 2010? Remember it? The release of OPI’s Hong Kong Collection had beauty addicts going ga-ga for one particular colour in the collection called OPI Jade is the New Black. I was one of those people who wore this shade to death at the time (and it was at the point where I was just getting into nail polish, and almost painting my nails every day at uni as something to do!), and this bottle is definitely over half way empty.

Greens are one polish colour I often normally opt for – but there’s something I find charming about this colour. Despite the fact this came in a spring collection, it’s always one that I’ve pulled out since my obsession with it at the time dwindled. To me this is a great ‘Christmas Tree green’, it’s unique within my collection and I can’t re-call anything since which has edged into OPI Jade is the New Black Territory. It’s a blue based green, that almost starts to encroach into the teal spectrum. It’s got a slight muted feeling to it that stops it from being a super bright green.

My bottle of this is old, I’ve had it since it’s release and it’s been used a lot and has had a lot of air exposure over the years. The formula is now quite thick (compared to OPI’s normal cream formulas), but despite that it applies nicely and doesn’t take too long to dry. This polish for me is okay without a topcoat, but with one it’s shininess almost makes it have a jewel like quality.

Wearing OPI Jade is the New Black has reminded me that I do enjoy a good green every now and again, and one in particular I want to pull out from my already tried and reviewed pile to wear is the ‘Green On the Runway’ shade from the Coca Cola OPI collection, which I may reswatch and review as my picture skills are significantly better than when I first reviewed it!

The Hong Kong collection proved a popular from OPI with most of the shades still being available now as part of OPI’s core line up including Lucky Lucky Lavendar which is still on my list to get, and Hot and Spicy – which I think I have… somewhere.

Spring 2010… hmm I am trying to remember what I was up to then. I think we went on vacation to Cuba. 😛
I don’t remember this collection at all – I wasn’t into OPIs at that time. This green is pretty wearable… and I’m not really a huge fan of green polishes, esp on the fingers.

The color is gorgeous! I love when polishes are just naturally shiny 🙂
