Irresistible Me Diamond Straighteners – Review

When Irresistible Me got in touch and offered me the chance to try out their hair extensions, I politely declined as I always joke that I don’t know what hair colour will be next week because most of the time I am planning a radical change to something completely different (and I do have some hair dye sitting in my cupboard for another colourful refresh before Christmas once I find time to get it done!), but then they asked if I’d like to try the hair tools and I saw some straighteners that caught my eye.

My hair is naturally a loose curl/wave, very rarely does it dry nicely and usually once you’ve put a brush through the mane, it becomes a frizzy mess. Once it’s slept on the curly waviness has normally come back – but it’s always extremely knotty so it’s very rare that I can tame my natural hair, it always needs styling to look nice.

Step in the Diamond Hair Straighteners by Irresistible Me. Retailing at $149, they feature DIAMOND Hi-Tech technology which sees the floating ceramic plates coated in Tourmaline and crushed diamond particles, designed to protect your hair and provide a longer lasting style.

One thing I like about these is the heat setting is adjustable meaning you don’t need to have it ultra high if  you don’t need it, in fact even with my thick hair I find that normally the lowest/second to lowest setting is enough. The outside of the straighteners shows the number of steps in temperature, and what temp you’re using. And there’s no long waiting as they reach the hottest setting of 230°C in 20 seconds. The tool is dual voltage so there’s no worries about it converting, and smartly the temperature measurements changes automatically depending on voltage from Celcius to Farenheit, that’s one smart straightener. Note that if you’re out of the US/2 Straight Pin Area you will need an adapter plug for this, I bought a plug from Amazon for about a fiver.

I like that the controls for heat and on and off are nested within the inner part of the straighteners, there’s so many hair tools I have where it’s so easy to knock the temperature or switch off the hair tool without realising, but with these it’s not a problem.

I can’t help but compare these against my GHD’s as converted to GBP they are roughly the same price. There’s some things I prefer them for, there’s some things I prefer my GHDs for, but I do have to bare in mind that my current GHDs are just coming up for their second Birthday having bought them on Black Friday on Amazon two years ago. The Irresistible Me Straighteners, straighten my hair really well, and quicker than my GHDs. I don’t however love them compared when curling. The texture of the plastic isn’t as smooth as the super shiny GHD’s and I find that my hair drags and doesn’t pull through as smooth – I think on shorter hair this would be less of a problem, but I’ve found it awkward on my long hair. For me it’s not a massive problem as if I’m going to curl my hair I tend to reach for my curling wand rather than my straighteners, so for day to day as I normally just straighten my hair (Curling takes about 45 minutes+ I now have such long hair!) I’ve been reaching for these for the past two weeks over my beloved GHDs.

The finish they leave my hair with is reduced frizz (although I do still have some where I’ve still got new baby hair shooting through, thanks to the Lee Stafford Hair Growth range) and enhanced shine. The whole experience is quick and takes me minutes, I’d say in 3 minutes my hair has gone from borderline frizzball to silky and shiny locks.

These will make a nice gift if you’re looking to treat someone to a professional hair straightener as they arrive in a nice looking matte black box which has a magnetic closure, which also makes nice storage if you’re looking to tuck them away. One thing which is also really important to me – because I’ve been there on multiple occasions, is that the straighteners automatically shut off after 30 minutes, leaving me unworried that I’ve turned them off as I’m sat at my desk at work.

So far I’ve had these for about 3 weeks now and I’ve loved using them, I’m not having to reach for my straighteners as much as the style seems to stay straighter for longer, or it takes just moments to quickly skim over them and re-straighten.

What hair tools are your go-to’s for daily styling?

Great detailed post Rachel. Why I haven’t given to the hype that is GHD I still don’t know. But my remmington straighteners have never done me wrong and it’s so super affordable! 💛

I always found before I started buying ghds that ones from cheaper brands never did the job as quickly or as well, but I’m guessing in the 10 years + since I bought any from a cheaper brand they’ve come a long way and stepped up their game massively! Xx

Yeah def, cheaper brands have upped their game to compete with the bigger names, also I have very fine hair so that could be a contributing factor also xx

I would love to have thicker tresses like yours! But it’s true that finer hair have more options with hair care appliances 😂 xx

My hair is a frizzy hot mess. I gave up. It’s nice to read about your GHD comparison, so many people swears by that but rarely compares it with another brand.

I own a straightener to depot eye shadows LOL. I never ever straighten my hair – I prefer the wave, it suits my face better. If I do wear my hair straight, I’ll just use a round brush and hair dryer! I am scared of such a hot appliance near my face – ouch…

Somehow other than the odd clip on the ear, I’ve never burnt myself. My year of hairdressing apprenticeship has paid off somewhat.
I prefer the wave too when it comes out nicely, most of the time it’s beyond tameable though!

Great post! You have really pretty hair. I try and straighten my naturally curly hair, but it just ends up frizzy.

You have such lovely hair. I feel your pain though. As mine has grown it’s getting much more tangled x

I’ve had my hair in a plait all day and I bet it’s somehow still managed to knot up! My sister in law/hairdresser said my hair is the knottiest and doesn’t understand how it knots so quickly, she can blow dry it and get to the end and the bottom sections will already be knotty! Can’t wait to have it cut post wedding!

      • November 2, 2016 / 7:42 pm

Mine too. Even after washing and blow drying it gets super knotty x

Looks like it works well, but I prefer your hair with waves! Mine is straight, so I’m always a little envous of waves. But, on the other hand, my hair is super easy to maintain. I just blowdry if I need smoothing.

    • November 2, 2016 / 7:09 pm

It’s just sonknotty when it’s wavy that means when I brush it turns into a big poofy mess and the waves totally disappear. I wish I could control it but the longer it gets the even worse it becomes!

Great post. Your hair looks great after using the straightener! xoxo

I bought GHD’s and never looked back, they work so well on my thick hair. The shade of these is so fun though x
