My First Chanel Makeup Experience – Dimensions De Chanel Mascara

Dimensions De Chanel Mascara

Yep, you read the title right as far as I can remember (because in my teens I was wayyyy more likely to buy high end makeup from the likes of YSL and other similar price pointed brands than I am now!) the Dimensions De Chanel Mascara is my first experience with a piece of Chanel makeup. I know. But used to go through bottles of Chanel Chance like it was water, so I’m not totally unfamiliar with their cosmetics.

Their Vita Lumiere Aqua foundation has been on my list to try for the longest time, and when I get to the point where I’ve significantly depleted my stash of foundations (or run out of ones in an appropriate colour shade for the time of year) then it’s on the top of the list (alongside Urban Decay All Nighter) to try.

Boots were giving away some samples of Chanel’s latest mascara at the end of spring/start of summer and it’s been waiting patiently for me to finish up any part used mascaras and has been on the go for the past few weeks.

I’d been good and kept this locked up and didn’t even peek at what style the brush was to save any air getting into it and going dry before I had chance to try. If I’d looked I’d probably have tried it sooner, packed with dense hair bristles, the brush is large and fat tapering towards the end to get into the inner corners more easily. From it’s first open the formula has been thick – exactly the kind of thing that looks like it will build a lot of volume.

It’s rare that I have to curl my lashes, I can count on one hand throughout the year how often I normally pick them up, often feeling that curlers curl me too much making me look like a cartoon with lashes pointing up. But with this the formula seems heavy, like it does weigh my lashes down and have found myself reaching for curlers when using this – so those who suffer with holding a curl or have less lashes I don’t think you’ll get on with this. Whilst I also love a big fat brush as I find it normally the easiest way to build volume, those with shorter lashes might find this hard to use too.

I’m used to being a one, maybe two coats at a push, in and out kinda gal, my lashes are normally the quick part of my routine but with this mascara it isn’t the case. I need three or even four coats with this, it requires patience to build up length and volume, but it does do both. Whilst there are several negatives, there are also big pluses, this build volume in a natural way and it never seems to become clumpy. Lashes look naturally volumised, lengthened and separated. This lasts until I get home, but any longer starts becoming a push, it doesn’t seem to smudge under the eyes or flake, it just starts disappearing after the 8-10 hour mark. If I wanted to take my makeup day-night this wouldn’t be the mascara that I’d be reaching for.

I like this mascara, but I don’t love it – I’m not someone who is used to needing such patience to keep layering and layering coats of mascara, and whilst the final effect is nice other mascaras do the same effect quicker. Also, you don’t want an experience with Chanel to be deemed as just “like” do you? It needs to be love at the price point of £25 – it’s more expensive than other high end favourites I’ve had in the past and I like this as much as other drugstore mascaras. Sorry Chanel, your report card says Good Effort, but I know you can do better.

You can find the Dimensions De Chanel Mascara on the Boots’ website here if you are interested.

I’d love to try something from Chanel seeing as it is my namesake and all haha! I like the way this looks on your lashes and it was nice you got to try a sample and didn’t end up splurging on the real thing. As you say, something with sort of price point needs to be amazing!

You definitely need to get a piece of Chanel!
Yes if this had been a mascara at the £10 or so mark it would have been great, but for £25 it needs to blow me away! Especially as there’s drugstore options I like as much as this!

Ahh must have sucked to spend so much and not ending up loving it! 🙁

I really like the way your eye makeup came off! Such a shame you ended up not loving the product!

For the price of this, I expect it to be stellar! I hardly ever deviate from my drugstore mascaras – my favourite still remains CoverGirl Lashblast Volume!
My first encounter with Chanel makeup was an eye shadow – it was a really sought after shade called Vega. It was SO underwhelming! I gave it away, that’s how unenthusiastic I was about that thing. Currently, I’m thinking about a Chanel lipstick – I’ve heard great things about Rouge Coco.

Exactly, you don’t want Chanel to just be good do you, you need it to be the best damn thing you’ve tried for the price!
When I spied their new liquid lipsticks my eyes lit up – packaging is gorgeous, but having read up on them they seem like they’d be underwhelming too!

I’m not an expert when it come to make up but I love Chanel’s Perfection Lumiere Velvet Foundation. It comes in a black rectangle bottle. It’s so light of your skin. It feels luxurious, without the weight of a denser foundation. It has great coverage too.

I’ll check that out if I ever come to get a chanel foundation! Not sure which the best will be for me and will definitely need to get colour matched, I’ll have no idea when it comes to Chanel!

I always go in to the make up counters and ask them to advise me on what I need. They’ll apply it for you if they have time. I like that I can then see how well it lasts through the day. (cheeky tip… when I went to America on holiday, each day I’d get my makeup done by a different brand.) In the end I had to choose between Dior or Chanel. Both were pretty brilliant!

At least you got it for free, it’s always disappointing when mascaras take a lot of work. I can’t wait to get through the Maybelline one I’m using as ut takes forever to get my lashes looking okay x

I’m obsessed with Chanel inimitable mascara. The only Chanel makeup I buy!

I’ve never tried the Chanel mascara but I love their foundations, blush, and eyeshadows. I’ve had the best luck lately with the Marc Jacobs mascara and Dior. I think Dior might be the only one I have not had flake and then leave me in Panda Eye Territory. I have a HUGE problem with that in Phoenix.! HUGE
