The Super Sizer Mascara by Covergirl

Following on from how impressed I was with the Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara, I was excited to try out the other Covergirl mascara I picked up whilst in New York too. The Super Sizer Mascara was brand new the week I arrived in New York and I picked it up on an introductory offer for only $7.79.

This had me intrigued from the get go, the diagram on the packaging showed that the brush twirled and rotated (which is what I thought Benefit’s Roller Lash was going to do) and is described as delivering 400% corner to corner volume with fibres within the mascara to help build the volume. The brush on this is again a rubber wand and is very long and narrow with short and sparse bristles – which tapers and widens towards the end, now I’m not sure if it’s on purpose or not, but my wand bends and curves towards the end. This again is a waterproof formula.

I’ve seen pretty positive reviews on this, but personally even from the first use I hated it. First off this is so, so difficult to remove, as a result it doesn’t budge all day, flake or smudge, but actually removing this it’s a nightmare, it clings and sticks like no other mascara has ever stuck to my lashes as bad as this one, it can take days of cleansing for it to be gone. For that reason alone I don’t love it.

Next to that, I don’t know if it’s just mine, but the brush doesn’t actually rotate as it’s shown in the diagram, even forcing it with my finger it doesn’t rotate, or shift at all – I don’t know if I’m just misunderstanding it or the picture is misleading. With one coat my lashes look spidery, not even close to the 400% extra volume that it promises, and with a second coat it becomes clumpy and looks genuinely awful. The reviews that I’ve seen on it which are positive, tend to not look particularly volumising either.

Looking directly forward I don’t hate it as much – it sticks bunches of lashes together more than I would like, but it’s really looking down or to the side that you really notice just how clumpy it is!

Most of you will know that I hate waste, like really hate wasting product – I use things even when I don’t like it, but with this I can’t even deal with using it any more and it’s going into the bin, I could probably live with this as a daily “I’m not too bothered about my lashes looking amazing” but the fact it’s so stubborn to remove just means it’s not worth the hassle.

The UK version of this is the Max Factor Masterpiece Transform Mascara and retails for £9.99. The full price for this mascara in the US is $6.99 (it’s now cheaper than it’s introductory price!) and in Canada it’s $9.99CAD.

  1. You know that I love this! And for the negative points you provide – that it’s difficult to remove – I counter that it’s super long wearing! It removes fine with eye makeup remover… I know that you use micellar water due to your lash extensions. 😛 So there’s that.
But yikes on how clumpy it looks on you – I didn’t experience that at all! In fact, I had no faith it would build any volume because the wand isn’t one of those jumbo volumizing types. To me, it was only decent in the volumizing department – I liked it more for length. We also have COMPLETELY different lashes – mine are so puny whereas yours is lush. You honestly don’t even NEED mascara!
The rotating thing is misleading – the wand doesn’t rotate but YOU need to rotate the handle manually. It says on the site ” just twirl as you apply it to your lashes for an instantly Super Sized lash look.” Like, you can do this with ANY mascara LMAO.
Too bad this didn’t work for you. I personally love trying out mascaras and if it’s rubbish, I will TOSS.

    1. I currently don’t have my extensions on and it’s still been a pain with more oily ones – not as bad, but I still feel like I loose lashes with each removal from having to scrub.
Maybe I’ve just got a shitty tube, every other review of this is largely positive, yet I think this is potentially one of the worst mascaras I’ve ever tried!
God sake, that is misleading, what a revolutionary application technique you use for that mascara.
This got put in the massive empties pile this morning. It’s a gonna.

  2. Ooh yeah that’s clumpy. I hate to say that I find your mascara reviews useless for me because, dude why do you even wear mascara? Your lashes are naturally amazing! Mine are….not. 😀 Siiiigh. Great review, though!
