Nailbox August 2016

I know, I know, I said in my last beauty box post that there would be no more this month, but when the guys at Nailbox got in touch to ask if I’d like to try out their August Box, I couldn’t say no could I?! The inner nail varnish obsessive has looked at this subscription several times over the last year and I’ve always had it on my list to try out, so I was excited that Nailbox invited me to try out this month’s box.

The theme this month could not be more appropriate for the last few weeks of summer we’re now in (I sob) and the current hot spell we’re having thanks to the ‘Spanish Plume’ with a bright and colourful sunset theme!

The subscription each month features 5 full size items each month, some of which may be nail care or nail art related. From looking at their previous boxes it tends to be between 3-4 nail polishes each month with the rest made up by nail art or nail care products. The subscription is £15 a month (for a rolling month to month contract) although there are options if you wanted to prepay and commit for a longer block of time that would make the boxes slightly cheaper. There’s a mix of brands from your professional brands such as China Glaze, OPI and Essie – to drugstore brands such as Revlon and Barry M.

So onto the contents of this months box!

The first item I pulled out was the Bourjois So Laque polish in Orange Creation, I have one other polish from the So Laque line (which If I’m right has now been discontinued?), but I’m quite happy as I love the formula of the one that I got.

Next up was the OPI shade in Lost my Bikini in Monokini which was from last year’s Hawaii collection, I already have a mini of this and like this royal purple shade a lot so I’m happy to have a full size of it as those minis only last a use or two!

The last polish was the Nicole by OPI Carried Away polish from the Carrie underwood collection which is a perfect yellow gold microglitter with a few flecks of silver sparkle which stops it looking like a flat glitter. This is actually way more opaque than I was expecting, I was kind of thinking this would be a topcoat to add a bit of sparkle to a sunset gradient, but it applies very glitter pigmented.

The final two items had me confused, the first I pulled out was a white polish with no description other than it was from the brand name Apharsec. It wasn’t until I undid the second box that I realised that the white polish was a stamping polish to accompany the stamper. Unlike stamping plates the designs of this are indented into a large rubber pad, which you rub off the excess on a piece of paper before printing onto the nail. The stamper design I received ‘6’ was filled with a tangled rope, a fish, anchor and lifering to name a few.

If I’m being a little criticial, the theme feels more carnival rather than sunsetty, the choice of nail stamper would have worked better for me in a nautical themed box, however if the stamper had been swapped out for a palm tree type (and possibly a black stamp polish instead of white) It would have been a more cohesive theme in my opinion. I do however really like the items and I’m excited to try them, maybe just with different colours paired together.Unboxing

The stamping thing sounds interesting and confusing 😀 Never heard or seen such a thing!

The OPI is such a lovely purple! Now you’ve got me wanting a gold sparkly polish too!

I feel like the theme is more nautical? I love the idea of a nail box but I don’t have much interest in nail art in general so at least 2 of the items each month would be lost on me! But I imagine that tangled rope stamper design would make a nice all over pattern for an accent nail. Bourjois polishes are great! So creamy and opaque.

I’ve experimented a little with the stamper so far and had the same thought about the rope, it’s not quite big enough although I haven’t played around too much yet!
The theme is a little too half and half for me, the polishes are sunset, but the nail art is nautical!

I was previously subscribed to Nailbox for maybe 3 months and was absolutely not happy with it, the nail polishes were not great and in general felt like things were sent to get rid of them :/
