An Easier Way to Spot Clean Your Brushes?

When I walked past these in Boots, they stopped me in my tracks and instantly went in my basket. I was needing a spot cleaner back up (thanks to the rubbish one I’d got from NYX) was practically useless to me. EcoTools have recently launched their Makeup Brush Cleaning Cloths and thought they would be the perfect and easy thing to quickly swipe over your brushes with.

These are priced at £6.99 for 25 wipes – which if you ask me is a little pricey, converting to 27p a wipe. Folding out the wipes they seemed very much like the size of a regular face wipe and first impressions were, “they’re not as wet as I was expecting”. The £6.99 in store whilst did seem steep – also felt semi justifiable if the towel was going to be soaked in an effective product that was going to wipe everything away easily. Spot cleaning is normally a chore in itself for me, I have to run downstairs to get some kitchen roll to brush against, so having something to hand which is an all in one seemed like a premium that was possibly worth paying.

They’re described as being a way to simply cleanse your brushes daily, and are dematologist tested as well as being free from parabens and phthalates. so I started with my makeup brushes which were freshly cleaned and had been used just once to apply makeup – so they weren’t totally caked or needing a deep cleanse and therapy session.

The only brush out of all the ones I used was a brush from Teez which was natural/animal haired, every other synthetic brush was left dirty. The denser and bigger the brush was meant that the more impossible it was to clean too, the brush I’d used for blush looked literally no cleaner no matter how hard I tried. It kind of makes me wonder though, EcoTool’s own brushes are synthetic, so I’m not sure they even tested with their own products!

Overall given these are more expensive than face wipes, and probably would have done exactly the same job as a pack of face wipes did, if not they may have even performed worse they’ve not hit the mark with me. Given I wrote everything but this paragraph on the first wipe (I decided to give it a few more days of trial to make sure I wasn’t being unfair!) but I can’t imagine how these will perform as you get towards the end of the packet once they’ve inevitably dried out somewhat. Given this is my first experience with EcoTools (although I do have a new brush set which is waiting to be trialled), I’m disappointed and for 27p  wipe I was definitely expecting more.

I always seen these online when I’m perusing ulta, but I’ve never checked out a proper review on them. So glad I never made the investment! I’m willing to get adventurous with actual makeup wipes for my face, but I don’t play around when it comes to my brushes!

Yeah to be honest a decent wet face wipe would do a better job than these would and I can’t see what ever ingredients in this being that much different!

I guess these would be nice once in a while when you haven’t cleaned your brushes in a while and you want a quick spot clean, but Iguess you’re right because you could use regular wipes 🙂

To be honest they were useless, my blush brush was still pink, my bronzer brush was still brown – I think I could have used a whole pack and it still wouldn’t have cleaned them fully! For £6.99 these aren’t worth it I unfortunately xx

Have you tried storing them upside down ? This works for my no7 makeup wipes as all the moisture is at the bottom so putting them upside down means the moisture travels to the top wipe? Maybe worth a shot so you can at least use the rest of the packet! 🙂 I love your honest reviews! 🙂 xo

It’s funny that you wrote a review on these because I have one coming up on my blog on the Wet n Wild brush wipes! I haven’t tested them out fully yet, just the one time, but so far they seemed better than these ones do! xx

I was thinking about getting these wipes but they seem so wasteful. And after reading this they seem like they’re not worth it. Vera Mona makes a sponge that instantly removes powder from brushes in case you need to switch colors. You should try that out

I have one and I love it. It may be a little less convenient than the wipes but it’s washable and reusable. Most importantly it does what it says it does and works on my darkest shadows
