The Dry Shampoo For On The Go

When I hauled this back at the beginning of June, lots of people immediately were curious about the latest from Ruth Crilly’s Colab line. I’ve been testing it out since then on and off whilst I’ve been trying to finish up some others from my drawer so here I am finally with the.

The Active Dry shampoo inherits the core of it’s formula from the popular sheer invisible line which I reviewed when it launched here, and was by far my favourite out of the three different formulas (others were the regular, and volumising). Unlike the other lines which come in several different scents the Active one comes in just one. The bright and colourful teal and yellow bottle pops out on the shelf and I must say I like it more than the other style packaging, its so easy to find in my overflowing drawer of hair stuff!

So what makes the Active version different to the regular Sheer Invisible line? Well this one is formulated in mind of girls on the go of any kind – whether it’s city living or extra rays of sunshine there’s added benefits built in to help add an extra level of protection to your hair. Offering UV and pollution protection and also claims to be extra conditioning on the hair with Moringa seed extract added to the formula which is also pegged as being good at absorbing oil, so no counterbalancing the effect of one with the other. If you’re an exerciser it’s got you covered too, it says to spray heavily in your hair prior to working out (without brushing away), when you’re finished brush out and reapply for the best and freshest hair results. Personally if I’ve done a heavy run or something I will always shower and wash my hair straight away, but it’s good to know that’s an option or you (especially if you’re not as likely to get super hot as I do)

I couldn’t pin point this smelling the same as any of the other scents that I’ve tried,  so I’ve checked and it’s the Monaco fragrance which I’d been yet to try, but is probably my favourite. It’s quite light and fresh and is described by Ruth herself as “cologne-y, but with a warm and sexy undertone. Lemon, bergamot and neroli; amber, musk and vetiver – it’s like a chic, expensive seaside resort in a can”. Yep I’d agree with that. I would have gone with warm florals and fruits.

In terms of performance, it’s no different to the other Sheer Invisible lines, it does enough to stretch washing my hair by a day but no longer – where as my fave from Aussie can manage to make it two. The sheer formula has proved best for me with dark roots there’s no powdery residue left behind, which whilst my hair has had a pink put all over it, even on my natural hair colour has been important, a milky pink grey cast on the root is not as cute as it may sound. Ruth says this is technically more effective in working to soak up oil than the original sheer invisible line with the added moringa seed extract, but as a result it’s a little heavier. Personally I really can’t tell the difference in feeling between the two.

It’s impossible to really tell whether any of those extra qualities really make any difference to the condition and quality of your hair. Especially over short periods of time, I live in the country and pollution is not really a problem for me on a day to day basis, high UV exposure for me is very limited. I’ve had a travel sized can of the regular sheer invisible and I wouldn’t say my hair feels any more conditioned one over the other – I’ve literally tried half my hair with one, half with the other and they look and last identically for me. That being said I’d just trust that it’s doing what it promises on some level and re-buy this over the other given the performance is no different for me.

Overall this gets a thumbs up from me, it falls into a close second place behind Aussie’s for me, purely because of the extra extension of needing to wash my hair. That being said, I would repurchase this again – especially if I was going somewhere hot for a week and wanted to put my trust in it’s added benefits.

Aussie seems to be such a marmite product, you either love it or hate it, I’ve been through about 30 bottles of the stuff so I clearly love it! feels a bit sticky initially, but once you brush it through it goes and is totally invisible!

The Sheer Invisible isn’t “strong” enough for me so if this is similar to that, then I’ve got to pass! I’m die hard fan of the Volumising version! I do really like this bottle through – it registers as very tropical to me.

I don’t think it’s significantly different to the original despite what they say! The extreme volume left a white cast for me, but not as bad as batiste a mind you !

Great review. I am fascinated by this and I haven’t tried the monaco scent either but the way you describe it sounds lovely.
