What’s in My Makeup Bag: Carry On Edition

As you’re reading there’s a high chance I’m either on the plane, just getting to the apartment or walking the streets of Valencia – we’re visiting for my oldest friend’s hen do and I’m seriously excited to be enjoying some sunshine. Whilst we have had a nice spell of weather in the UK, I’ve either been cooped up in the office, at home doing freelance work – or it’s been moderately less nice at the weekends. My complexion needs some sunshine, pronto.

This has been a tough makeup bag to pack, on one hand I needed to be concise due to only having one carry on bag for 4 days. I definitely could pack lighter if it was just a casual city break – but being a hen do, of course there are multiple nights out planned an I do want a good chunk of makeup with me! I half grouped these products together when photographing, half didn’t – so excuse the semi-random order!

I have two small bags with me, that gorgeous mermaid bag which I’m using to house all my brushes, and things like hair bobbles and grips to keep them all in once place. I then also have a clear pouch from Kiehls to fit everything else

Makeup Forever central here! For concealer I’m taking the HD Concealer which I still haven’t got around to reviewing, and have actually used very little in the past few months as I’ve been trying to finish up some from my collection. I chose this one because it’s high coverage so if it’s too hot for foundation then I can just use some concealer instead! The HD Powder is another item still on my review list, I chose this because it’s translucent, so no matter how tanned I get it will still match. Lastly is the MUFE smoothing primer which is my primer of choice of late, I have already reviewed this but it’s great at blurring pores so even if I chose to wear no other makeup this would be a good just by itself as a base to make the skin look better.

How could I be without the Body Shop Skin Defence SPF? Simple answer I can’t – I already raved in my review about how much I love this stuff and it’s so lightweight it will be a perfect accompaniment for hot weather whilst still offering high protection. For eye primer I’m taking the Korres one, which yet again is still to be reviewed. I wasn’t sure on this on the start, but actually I really like this!

For foundation I’m taking the EX-1 Foundation which is currently the best colour match for me from my collection, sadly I’ve got a little too much of a tan for my Kat Von D at the moment otherwise that would have come. Haven’t put this to the test too much yet, but it’s supposed to be high coverage and long wearing, the few times I have worn it I’ve been impressed. I’ve also taken a little pot of Estee Lauder Double Wear in Pebble to match and mix as I’ll probably end up not matching EX1 after the first day!

I was torn on taking my sleek contour palette for a travel friendly duo, but I’ve hit pan so much on both now, I think there’s a risk it could end up shattering in my case. I opted for Mary Lou Manizer, a super glowy golden classic which should look great on bronzed skin. For bronzer it’s theBalm’s Bahama Mama which I hope will be dark enough with a tan too.

For blush I had a long debate on which to take – again torn between one that’s more travel friendly or whether to just pick my favourite, I went for my favourite, one I’ve spoken about many times – Peach Witty from Estee Lauder.

I’m also taking MAC’s Sunbasque which is a shimmery bronzer. I don’t use shimmer bronzers very often and this is really old – I’ve been trying to use it up this summer and have finally hit pan on it! I also have Freedom’s Ambient powder with me – it’s great as an all over powder for a glowy finish.

whats-in-my-travel-makeup-bag-violet-voss-drenched-metals

Probably a little bit excessive in size, but I liked that this can be a really diverse palette for me, with neutrals for the day and if I want to add more colour for the evening then the Violet Voss drenched metals palette just about has it all. I finally have a first impressions coming on this on Monday, so keep your eyes peeled for swatches and shade comparisons.

whats-in-my-travel-makeup-bag-false-lashes

I’m taking a pack of the Fleur De Force Couture Fleur individual lashes I spoke about in my last favourites. I’m not sure how my lash extensions are going to fair in the heat/chlorine from waterpark etc so I thought I would take these as backup, or to add an extra bit of oompf!

whats-in-my-carryon-makeup-bag-liner-mascara

For mascara I’m taking the Givenchy Couture Noir Mascara mini sample for my bottom lashes only which I reviewed only last weekend. Black liner I have the Arcincil Star liner which is an amazing little gel pencil. Lastly my liquid liner is in the form of theBalm’s Schwing which is still going strong – I think one day it’s going to surprise me and just dry up, but it’s been going since November and mostly used everyday since.

  whats-in-my-travel-makeup-bag-brow-products

Somehow I missed taking a picture of the brow products, I’ve chosen to take my new NYX Tame and Frame Pomade, which I’m experimenting with currently but also have a back up of Benefit’s Gimme Brow which I know fairs well with sweat and heat!

whats-in-my-carryon-makeup-bag-liquid-lipsticks

For lips I was strict and limited myself to two choices, Milani Amore Matte in Precious, a neutral rose option which I am absolutely in love with and a bright option from OFRA in the form of Malibu a bright purple pink which I have been yet to try.

whats-in-my-travel-makeup-bag-makeup-brushes

I won’t go super into detail on my brushes, but I have all my Makeup Geek eye brushes, which are fantastic. My Fluffy angled real techniques brush, which is a bit all-purpose good for bronzer, good for the HD powder. My Quo blending sponge, which is just a must for foundation! These were dirty but were cleaned immediately after so they had time to dry off!

That’s quite an amount of makeup to take on a trip. I try to take as less as possible because knowing myself, I’d buy everything on the destination point 🙈

OMG, I must tell you that the Freedom Highlighter and the Makeup Revolution blush is a dream!!! I haven’t really played with the Iconic palette but swatches are so gorgeous!

I also love the sunbaque bronzer. I don’t know if I’ll ever hit the pan with anything though 😅 I am so lazy with make up. I mainly like the buying/collecting part haha 😂 that estee lauder blush has to be your blog’s official trademark or something. You reallly love that one.

I’ve had that sunbasque for an embarrasing amount of time, it was one of the first items I bought from mac! I’m trying to declutter a little – especially on items where I’ve hit pan where I used to love them but now I’m not as keen! I do love that EL blush <3

Why do you need TWO bronzers? And TWO highlights?
And those are more brushes than I use all week! 😛
I’m just sayin. I pack LIGHT. I’m challenging myself to pack even lighter for our upcoming cruise since it’s only a week.
    Enjoy your time in Spain!

Ones a shimmery bronzer, ones a contour bronzer. Ones an all over face powder that’s classed as a highlight but I wouldn’t say that’s true, much better as an all over glow sans makeup! Totally different!
We missed out flights today so no Spain til tomorrow 😭

      • July 29, 2016 / 10:18 pm

Oh no! What’s the story about missing the flight?!

    • August 3, 2016 / 1:37 pm

Story of the weekend: 12 Girls, 6 AM, Breakfast (and alcohol), No Final Call over Tannoy, 6 MInutes Late, Horrible Manager On Shift where the other people would have let us on, Rebooked on three separate flights the next day (9am, 2pm and 6pm), spent that day at a bottomless prosecco brunch, totally drunk by 4pm. Next day My flight 6pm delayed til 7.30, got ready for night out on plane, got changed in toilet, straight to restaurant. stripper, tapas, nightclub, 5am home. Monday rolls round, cancelled flight home, extra day in the suburbs of valencia, get home v. late. This morning, Dexter escaped from garden, 30 minute run round our village. Work today = caffeine.

Always good to have a diverse palette of neutrals and colourful shades when going on a girls’ trip. You never know when you’ll need to pull out the bright shades! Although I do agree, sometimes taking a palette like that on a short trip can be excessive, lol.
Hope you have a great time!

    • August 3, 2016 / 1:38 pm

That was my thinking, literally had everything with me for day appropriateness and for hitting clubs at night. Was the perfect palette to take with me!

  9. July 29, 2016 / 7:16 pm

Wow, Peachy Witty is so beautiful! Wouldn’t have expected that to be by Estee Lauder but I’m not really familiar with their cosmetics at all.

    • August 3, 2016 / 1:39 pm

Me neither, I only found out about it when researching dupes for a discontinued blush from her I also have that I had majorly hit pan on. The only 2 items I own from EL though!

  10. July 30, 2016 / 10:33 am

I always struggle when packing makeup for a weekend away, you did well to condense it down!
Peach Witty looks like such a beautiful blush.

I think some would argue this wasn’t that condensed which I would agree with, but felt like I needed everything to take me from day time to full blown makeup for clubs!

  11. July 31, 2016 / 11:50 am

Astounding!! Great post! I love how you write.
    Keep it up!
I have a new post too, hope you can check it as well. Here you go

I can’t wait for your Violet Voss post! It’s such a beautiful palette but I don’t think I’m adventurous enough for that ahah

    • August 1, 2016 / 1:44 am

It’s up tomorrow, you’ll be surprised how most of the shades are totally wearable, a few Bright shades jump out as this being a crazy palette but it’s really not! Xx
