Beauty #TBT – MAC Brave

Beauty #TBT – MAC Brave

Why it’s taken me 2 and a half years to talk about MAC’s Brave Lipstick I’ll never know. It was the first MAC lipstick I purchased, and gave birth to an obsession with collecting the little bullet shaped lippies. Back when I purchased Brave in my second year of uni (2009/2010) and MAC lipsticks were a whole £5 cheaper, Brave was never a shade that any one talked about and I purchased it without any research just in the MAC store on a whim. This is why it’s a beauty #TBT, it’s still available and still fantastic.

To this day it’s definitely my most worn out of all the ones I own – and definitely in my top two favourites. I’m now down to my last little nub of lipstick and I imagine by the end of the year it’ll all be gone and used up. Whilst when I first bought it I would wear this for weeks and weeks without giving it a break in between, now as my collection and love for makeup has quadrupled (at least!) it’s a shade that doesn’t get picked out as often, but is still one of my favourites.

Brave is a shade that can look completely different on different skin tones. For me it’s basically my perfect ‘your lips but better’ shade, a perfect nude that’s not too light – or too dark, with just the slightest hint of pink that keeps it looking like a perfect natural shade.

Brave is in the Satin formula finish – which MAC describes as creamy formula which when applied has a cushioned finish with a medium but buildable coverage. Adding more than one layer of this is a total waste for me, it’s opaque in one and has a lovely finish that doesn’t look flat without being shiny. A perfect in between that lasts for me longer than a cremesheen.

I haven’t decided yet – but this is a contender to be my lipstick of choice for my wedding day. It’s a shade I adore and will always be a part of my collection no matter what. I can’t be without it.

Nice colour! This kind of looks similar to Rimmel’s Airy Fairy. Might be a tad darker.
I always wear my lipsticks down to the same shape as you! 😉

OMG! What a perfect slant! Do all your lipsticks wear down that way?
By the way, Bite Beauty lipsticks covers are designed in the many ways women wear down their lipsticks.

I think so for the most part! I have a bite beauty mini I bought in Sephora whilst in New York, but we can’t actually get the brand here 😭😭😭

I’ve never tried a Satin lipstick from MAC and you’ve totally made me want to swatch Brave next time I’m at the MAC counter! This colour looks absolutely lovely on you and the rest of your face looks flawless in that picture. It would be so sweet if you wore this on your wedding day!

Looks great on you, Rachel. I love Mac lippie vanilla scent 😍

This looks great! Will you be doing a stronger eye look for your wedding day? If so, I think this would be a great option. I stopped into MAC quickly the other day and this looked really wearable. I still haven’t decided what to Back to MAC for yet.

Yes I don’t plan on doing a natural look, I don’t wear that 90% of the time! I already have a Pinterest board of inspiration! Can you imagine being a makeup artist doing makeup on a beauty blogger!

Haha good luck to whoever that makeup artist is! 😛 I’ve honestly only walked away from 2 makeovers where I loved the look. Once at the Bobbi Brown counter, and the other at the Burberry counter!

This is one my favorite MAC lippies of all time. I feel like it helped me get over the hump of only wearing nudes since it has a little (I don’t know, magenta?) maybe I’d say. But after wearing it, I went darker and darker but only in the winter. lOLOLOL

I’d imagine Brave is a great wedding day shade!! What are your other options? xx

Maybe something from ofra in a similar shade, my friend wore a Charlotte tilbury one for hers and it didn’t budge until after we had eaten. Also intrigued about the lip inks which supposedly don’t move til you take them off, but struggling to find proper searches of the colours!

An OFRA one is a good idea! What OFRA colors do you have?

          • August 10, 2016 / 1:04 am

Malibu is similar to Brave on you? (We’re talking about the purple one, right?) I have a post about my collection of OFRA lipsticks which is fairly recent (it’s only missing Malibu and Cancun) so if you want to look at those swatches, I can always take pictures of the lipsticks you’re interested in as well as lip swatches for you to help the process along!

Okay, that makes a lot more sense haha. Laguna Beach is a beautiful nude! Another cute one (if you wanted to get yourself a new one, which, I mean, it’s a good reason to treat yourself!) is Pasadena. 🙂

          • August 10, 2016 / 4:58 pm

To be honest I’ll probably have a ‘fresh’ one for my wedding day even if I already own it. I’m that person ha! Pasadena, now on the list!

          • August 10, 2016 / 8:28 pm

Bel Air is a bit lighter but it’s also a beautiful nude for you to consider! xx
