The Adult Tag

Given I talked about how hard I was finding ‘adulting’ in my Change post, when I spotted the Adult Tag yesterday I knew I had to do it!

1 – How old are you and where do you live?

I’m 26 and I live in Quadring – a tiny rural village in Lincolnshire, close(ish) to Peterborough and not too far from Leicester, Lincoln and Nottingham.

2 – Where did you expect to be by this age?

At the age of 20 I thought I would already be married to Ben by now, I’m not sure if I would have thought we would own our own home by now, but we do. I also thought by 25 I would have a child, hopefully that won’t come far after being married as I’m broody as hell.

3 – Are you on track to where you want to be now?

Yes, career wise I’m in the best business I’ve ever worked for and feel more relaxed than I have in any job. My blog is a growing and big part of my life and I’m proud of the achievements it’s making. I’m on the road to being a married woman with getting close to 10 months to go.

4 – What piece of advice do you wish people told you when you were young?

Hmm that’s hard. I wish people had told me to start my blog when it was all still a new thing, I was into blogs and youtube at the start of it’s birth and I always thought I couldn’t do it. Could have been as rich as Zoella now!

5 – What advice would you give to younger people now?

Take every opportunity that comes your way (providing you want to do it). I’ve followed lots of different paths, moved across the country for jobs and I feel more well rounded as a result. There’s nothing I’ve said no to I wish I hadn’t and that’s an amazing feeling.

6 – Do you still suffer from FOMO?

Not really, I always make the effort to see my friends unless there’s something pre-arranged where I really can’t go. The one thing I hate is missing blogging events when I’ve been invited, invites usually come late in the day – and are usually in London so meaning getting somewhere last minute is out of the question. I’d like to go to more but the opportunity money/time wise isn’t always there.

7 – What is your opinion on living at home vs moving out in your 20’s?

Both have their benefits and their cons. When you live at home with your parents the responsibility of keeping up on housework is normally far less if you live by yourself. It’s also the best opportunity to save all the money you can. It does have it’s cons, after moving in with the in laws after we’d lived alone for a few years whilst we saved for a mortgage it was one of the most stressful experiences of my life. Going from having your own space back to feeling like you only have a bedroom was tough, and the stress levels were high for everyone.

Living in your own home space comes with many, many more bills than you’ll ever think that you do. But the freedom of space and living on your own timelines is great.

8 – If you could change something in your adult life right now then what would it be?

I love my job, I love my house – but they’re 50 minutes apart. I wish there was a way to make them closer together so I could spend less time, and money commuting. I think it would improve my mental wellbeing ten times more and I’d be more productive when I got home.

9 – Have you had any sudden realisations about life/relationships/friendships since hitting your 20s?

I no longer will chase people to be my friend. After gaining new friends, and some drifting away – I won’t beg people to spend time to me, talk to me or fill me in with their lives. I’ve felt at points in my twenties that I’m the only person who will text saying – “how was your weekend”, “hows the job going” and when the responses are just about them and no questions back I frankly can’t be bothered any more. People who I thought would be there forever aren’t – and I’m okay with that, I simply don’t have the time to keep asking to make plans for them never to come to fruition. If you wanna be my friend, I want to be your friend – but I’m not running up a never ending one way street to find you.

10 – Do you feel like an adult?

Yes and no. I feel like I have a lot of responsibilities – dogs to walk and feed, a mortgage to pay and I’m actually planning a real life wedding. but I think I’m always going to be someone who has the big kid at heart attitude. I love disney, I’m rubbish at budgetting and I don’t care if I spend a whole day in my pjyamas at the weekend.

I’m not tagging anyone in particular for this, but feel free to join in!

Adulting is hard. I can’t believe sometimes how desperate we all were to grow up, it’s not like you imagine!

I love this tag! I’m definitely going to have to do this over on my blog at some point. Adulting, while sometimes has it’s perks, can definitely also be a huge drag sometimes. Good luck with the wedding planning, that’s so exciting! I hope you are having fun planning!
