Orly Epix Review – Indie & Topcoat

I was quite happy to receive a few polishes from Just Beauty whilst visiting the Bloggers Ball. Being the big old nail varnish collector that I am I’m always happy to have new ranges to try out. Whilst I’d heard of the Orly Epix Range there was little I’d seen from reviews so I went in with my eyes open ready to try, having had a hit and miss relationship with Orly in the past.

I received the colour ‘Indie’ a bright-ish royal blue that reminds me a lot of an old favourite of mine, OPI’s Dating a Royal (that reminds me to crack that one out soon!), and the accompanying topcoat also from the range. I painted the colour on top of bare nails – sans-base coat as I was in a bit of a rush. The polish went on very well, it had a slight thin and watery consistency, but nothing that I would say was unusual and despite being on the thinner side it actually had pretty decent pigmentation being almost opaque on the first coat.

The second totally evened out the look becoming 100% opaque. I was already quite pleased after the colour had dried pre-topcoat, it already looked quite shiny and the topcoat only added to that. Like the polish the topcoat had the same thin consistency, sometimes with topcoats I find that can mean it slips and settles pooling at the nail bed, but with this it did not. Together this is the closest I think I’ve got to a gel looking manicure without cracking out my gel polishes.

So I guess you can already tell that I was super impressed and to add to that the drying time was pretty impressive too. Turns out Orly say this range is ready in 8 minutes, and by 8 minutes I’m counting from starting the application process – 3 coats of polish being totally touch dry in under 10 minutes almost sounds too good to be true.

After the initial application and it knocking my socks off I decided to do a bit more research on the line. Orly describe this as a gel hybrid formula – meaning you do get that gel like shine I was talking about, quick dry time with minimal waiting – a la gel polish & a decent wear time of a week. Something I’m also happy to say lives up to it’s claims I’m 6 days in and just have wear to the tips.

I’m already looking at some other colours from this range online, my sister got a beautiful coral colour in her bag of goodies from Just Beauty which I might see if I can steal off her for review temporarily next time I see her! The one drawback of these is they are kind of pricey – on Just Beauty a topcoat and polish duo run for £19.99, whilst individual colours on Nail Polish Direct are £15.90, there are a few shades though I can see which look really unusual so might be worth splashing the cash for anything that’s a little out of the ordinary, otherwise I think the price might be a little too high despite the amazing formula.

I haven’t tried out the topcoat with any other polishes yet, but I’ll be interested to see if it has the same mirror shine like effect, and helps improve longevity for a manicure that actually lasts.

JustBeauty have kindly offered my readers 10% off any order with the code ‘thankyou10‘. You can check out their range of Orly Epix polishes here.

I’m a big fan of Orly – I wish they got more love but they’re not as readily available as OPI or Essie. I’ve not heard of this new range from them so thanks for introducing it to me! This is likely one “gel” polish I would splurge on. I’d love to know how the top coat works on regular polishes!

Me too! They have some pretty unique shades – again they’re not so readily available here either. Seems like there’s a limited colour selection of these Epix polishes – at least here, but I do have my eye on one in particular called ‘Feel The Funk’. Will keep you updated on the topcoat!
