Gatineau Melatogenine Refreshing Cleansing Cream Review

Gatineau Melatogenine Refreshing Cleansing Cream Review

It normally only takes me a couple of weeks to decide whether I like a cleanser or not, but the  Gatineau Melatogenine Refreshing Cleansing Cream has had me puzzled for months. I received this from a friend who had received it at an event he’d been to for QVC – and didn’t think it would agree with his sensitive skin so passed it on to me to try.

This is the first product I’ve tried from Gatineau – a premium brand that I think until recently was only really available on the likes of QVC, but I’ve started seeing it pop up more online and also in M&S. Priced at £30, it’s up there in price and may be the most expensive cleanser I’ve tried to date – and with that I think only comes high expectations.

The packaging and styling of this product doesn’t feel particularly luxe to me, something about the simple design (which can look very premium) just feels like it’s missing something that makes it look like it’s from a premium brand – maybe that’s just me. The cleanser inside is a white cream with a pearly shine inside that does make it look a little special.

Since using this since February on and off, and still not really deciding what it was actually doing to my skin/how it was helping – or wasn’t. I decided to put it down for a month and use other things in my collection coming back to it only this month and still feel the same. I literally have no idea what it’s doing other than making my skin feel squeaky clean. For a cream cleanser, which I’d normally find really moisturising – this just leaves the texture of my skin in a really odd place, like I said squeaky – even under the water of the shower my hands drag across the skin. It doesn’t remove makeup at all and if I use this by itself without any cleansers – it doesn’t seem to keep spots at bay either.

The brand describe the Gatineau Melatogenine Refreshing Cleansing Cream as leaving the skin clean, toning as well as micro-exfoliating. Well I’ll be damned if it’s doing any of the above. after almost 6 months of using it, I still can’t pinpoint what it’s doing so once it’s gone you can be sure I won’t be repurchasing another, maybe it’s just my skin and it’s better suited to drier or more mature skin.

I’ve never heard of the brand before. The cleanser seems pretty weird to make your skin squeaky!

I don’t like cream cleansers – generally I find they don’t do much of anything… at worse they leave a film on my skin. But definitely odd this one left your skin like a squeaky ball lol. Glad you’re nearly finished it!

I normally hate cream cleansers, but this one looks and sounds a little bit like Clinique Rinse Off Foaming Cleanser! I like that pearly shine, lol! I’ve heard of Gatineau but never seen it around here. I agree it doesn’t quite look premium – for £30 I would expect fancier packaging.

I just got this as a present and after using it for the first time I was so confused. I actually went online to see if mine has maybe gone bad or something:D I have never had a cleanser make my skin squeaky clean in this way, as you said. I do not enjoy the feeling whatsoever! Nice to know I’m not the only one who is frustrated with this product. By the way I have oily skin and this left my skin feeling super stripped and uncomfortably dry.

Well I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who found out how bad it was! Yep my skin is combo/oily and did the same to me, such an uncomfortable feeling!
