Face Mask Friday #18 – Sephora Green Tea Sheet Mask

It was only a few weeks ago when I commented on just how clear my skin had been. It was like my skin knew when the right point was to totally try and screw me over. Last weekend we had a free photoshoot that we’d won at a wedding fayre on the Saturday, and our formal engagement shoot on the Sunday. After about 6 weeks of not seeing a single pimple on my skin, days before my face started erupting (note this was a few days after I’d finished my Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleanser, so I’m now debating buying a full size bottle as maybe my skin did love it as much as I thought). Thank you skin. Thanks a bloody lot.

I raided my collection of products searching for anything that was anti-blemish, calming etc, and found this one from Sephora that I picked up in January whilst in New York. I’d already tried the rose version from the same line which quite frankly did nothing so this was a slightly risky to entrust it with the task of neutralising my skin and reducing the spots. I had low expectations, I’ll admit.

Like all the masks in this range, it’s a sheet mask – and unlike some that I’ve tried it does really feel like it’s coated with product, as opposed to feeling a bit drier and difficult to stick out. The green tea one as well as being anti-blemish is also mattifying, due to the few hotter days we had last week and crazy air con at work my skin was pretty oily.

Because these masks are so wet, it kind of forces you to sit down and relax or you’ll be walking around your house (or street… should you wish) with your hands firmly placed on each cheek holding it from slipping off and landing like a cow pat on the floor.

Whilst the mask felt cooling and a little soothing to the skin, there was no real initial change to the skin, but waking up the next morning I did notice my skin was a little better. I did use my favourite Sunday Riley Luna Oil also – which may have helped with the oiliness, but doesn’t really effect healing of spots from what I’ve seen so far. Spots were visibility reduced in size and were not quite as red the night before, I’d had some spots that looked like they might be on their way rather than going and even those seem to be reduced. With a layer of medium coverage foundation overall my skin looked much, much better than it did the week before.

I’m not 100% sure if this mask is still available as part of the Sephora Mask Collection, when I hopped on the website to have a look at the prices, this one was no longer on there. Whether it was just out of stock or now out of production I’m unsure.

Overall I liked this mask, but it’s not hands down the best thing I’ve used, If I had a local sephora I’d probably end up purchasing another mask – but I wouldn’t go out of my way to order it online again (that’s even if it’s still available!)

I’ve never tried a sheet mask before. I imagine they would be a bit of a handful because not everyone has the same size face. I like the look of the bright, funky packaging!

they’re suprisingly usually okay – most people’s faces have roughly the same size features so the holes are the right size and position – and then the area around is always larger so you can fold and sculpt round the face as needed!

Haha I’m trying to picture someone walking on the street with a sheet mask on their face! I’ve seen a picture of a guy with a sheet mask on while riding on the subway in Japan! 😛
Sheet masks, for me, are a nice treat but I don’t put too much credence in them to help my skin that much – I mostly use them to give my skin a boost of moisture.

I find sheet masks don’t tend to work for me very well but that’s normally because I’m looking for some real deep skin action and feel that laying something over my face doesn’t do the job. Having said that I keep wanting to try this range out and anything that claims to be calming and have green tea in has me interested so if this does pop back up and I ever make a hefty Sephora delivery to London maybe I’ll pop it in my cart.
