Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleansing Soap & Lotion Review

Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleansing Soap review

Mario Badescu was a name that I hadn’t heard of until about a month ago until I placed my Beauty Bay order and I received both deluxe sized samples of their cleansing soap and lotion as part of my order. Since then I’ve been seeing the name pop up everywhere! Maybe I just wasn’t paying close enough attention before!

Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleansing Soap – £11.95 – 8oz/225ml

I absolutely love the scent of the Mario Badescu Seaweed Cleansing Soap – that was the first noticeable thing about the product. , it’s a very soothing spa like scent – I was expecting when I saw the name seaweed that it would be horrible! The soothing experience continues to the texture of the product, it’s a lovely creamy texture packed with smooth soft seed like beads to gently exfoliate the skin. Whilst it does contain exfoliating particles – they’re not too harsh for every day use. It’s described as being good for light makeup removal – and I think I would tend to agree, any freshly applied, full coverage locked into place makeup doesn’t budge very much at all with this – to clean off the end of the day makeup it works just fine. I tend to use this regardless as a second step cleanser after one from Kiehls which suds up a little better and tackles the job of removing makeup easier. After using the skin is left feeling soft and refreshed.

I will say when I looked up the price of this I was expecting the full size to be closer to the £20+ mark than £11.95 – I’d say that’s a bargain. I can see myself buying a full size of this (once I’ve finished up all my other creamy cleansers from my stash!)

Seaweed Cleansing Lotion – £12.95 – 8oz/225ml

The term cleansing lotion is a little bit misleading for this product as infact described as a toner. I’ll be the first to admit that I am poor at remembering to use a toner, it’s the one step in my routine that I’m normally – and I’ll continue to admit that I’ve still not been remembering to use this as regularly as I should. I’ve not tried many toners, other than the odd few that i’d tried that were so alcohol heavy back in my teenage years that dried out my skin completely, I’ve never found one any better than another in particular. This does a great job of making sure the skin is Ultra Clean post cleansing and leaves the skin soft and smooth ready for moisturisers or night oils. This has not exactly the same scent that I love from the cleansing soap, but it still smells nice and has the type of scent that alludes that clean feeling.

Listed as containing aloe and seaweed to soothe the skin, and witch hazel to help unclog any blocked pores and blackheads. I will say that I have noticed a difference on my nose in particular, normally I have to turn to my Body Shop Blue Corn Mask to budge stubborn ones but they do seem to be being kept at bay a little more than usual.

The one critique I have on both of these is the packaging leaves a lot to be desired and is screaming for a graphic designer to be hired to give the labels a refresh. One thing I will say that since introducing these two items into my skincare range about 3 weeks ago, is that I haven’t had a single sign of a spot or pimple, no matter how big or small. I’ve probably gone and cursed myself now,  but my current skincare routine is really working for me, and has only improved with the addition of these, in particular the cleansing soap.

Have you tried anything from Mario Badescu before?

Happy these are working out for you, as I received the exact same duo with an order from BB but haven’t had a chance to test them just yet. They sound lovely though.
