Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation Review

Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation

Last up from the 3 Kat Von D products I picked up from New York is the Lock It Tattoo Foundation, I kind of knew how I felt about this from the first use but wanted to really put it to the test over the past few months to check it really was the way I felt about it. But did I love it or hate it? The KVD liquid lipstick in Lolita I loved but the tattoo liner melted off my eyes in hours!

First up, let’s talk packaging. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the packaging, it’s quite lightweight plastic with a double case. The pump cleverly squeezes all the product up as you go, so there’s no wastage as it simply compresses it all up. The packaging is pretty, but that extra layer of plastic makes it feel unnecessarily chunky, and whilst the pump works perfectly the fact it’s just sticking out of the top kind of annoys be. It’s like they designed the bottle and realised it wasn’t practical for travel and had to make a little bit of plastic which hinders the pump from working whilst in your make up bag. Luckily it does click into position so it’s not prone to falling off easily.

I picked this up in a shade which was a little dark for me, but was still workable and coming into summer now with my skin seeing a bit of sun will mean that this is about to become my perfect ‘NC25’ shade (Light 47). This applies really nicely, rarely do I find a foundation that I don’t like applying with my fingers, but this is actually one of them. This applies the best with a beauty blender, specifically the Quo one – the coverage of this is high, it’s a little higher than I’d like for everyday, but that being said the benefits of it far outweigh the fact this this is higher coverage.

Whilst I say it’s high coverage, it definitely doesn’t feel cakey on the skin, I can imagine those with dry skin might find this a little drying, but personally I’ve found once I’ve set it with a powder it doesn’t budge. If it gets to 6pm at night and my foundation is still looking relatively okay I’m totally sold, as an oily skinned gal I’m pretty happy if it can last a full working day. I’m work in a predominately male environment and don’t enjoy pulling out my powder at every second of the day to keep myself shine free, and with this I don’t have to powder through the day. Not only that, but it far outlasts a good 6pm target, infact as I’m writing this I’ve been properly taking note how long it has lasted on my skin over the weekend, Saturday applied 9am – 10pm it was still looking perfect, today Sunday applied 10am, I even went for an unexpected run wearing this, it’s almost 10pm and it’s still on and not only that it still looks good.

The best test for it was last weekend one of my best friends got married and I’d already known that this was going to be the foundation of choice for the day. I applied this at about 9.30am, pre visiting a hot hairdressers to have my hair done, I powdered when I got home (mainly because I’d realised whilst at the hairdressers I had forgotten to do this!) – and that was it all day, I took a concealer and powder with me in case I needed to touch up, but I didn’t even get them out my bag once, the last time I remember taking note at the wedding was at 10pm and it was still fine. By 1am when we got home (albeit slightly drunk) I remember looking in the mirror and thinking that foundation is still on my face looking perfect – though there might have been some Pimms and tequila goggles on, but even without 1am bedtime a 12 hour wear time is unheard of for me. Annoyingly I didn’t get any pictures of me alone for the purpose of this review…

Me on the right… if you haven’t seen my face before.

This is by far the longest wearing foundation that I’ve ever tried. I’m trying not to reach for it daily as getting hold of it here is a bit of a pain. But if it was more easily accessible here I would be tempted to throw everything else away in my drawer and replace it with an array of shades from this line.

I’m hoping I can make this bottle last/the shade will match me, until I visit Sephora in Valencia at the end of July – where I will be picking up this shade again, and hopefully a more tanned version (come on British Summer, you can stop raining now) to see me through the summer months again. I think this will be the Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation to beat for my wedding day – unless a makeup artist can convince me otherwise!

Have you tried KVD Beauty’s Lock It Foundation – let me know what you thought of it in the comments.

I am in love with Kat Von D products as they stay put forever. Though I totally agree that Kat Von D eyeliners are not as good but when it comes to longevity of the products it’s pretty good. Thanks for sharing this post.

Pls visit my blog to read my Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick review. Hope you like it.

I have oily skin and it’s genuinely a foundation that will stay on my face all day long. Try and go near the start of your trip and ask for a sample to try when they’re if you’re unsure, and you can revisit a few days in! X

This sounds so good. Liquid foundations usually look so greasy and awful on me, but this sounds great. Do they do very fair shades?x

Dying to try this out!! I love the fact it squeezes the product up, very clever idea! But I agree the packaging looks cheap, glass bottles all the way! Plastic should only be for drugstore. I’m a packaging snob though! xx

I have yet to try any of the Kat von D stuff. I`ve heard her lipsticks are pretty great.

    • I have one liquid lipstick from the range and plan to pick up another one or two, and maybe some of the studded lipsticks too – have never heard as much about them compared to the liquid lipsticks so need to do some research I think!
