Kiko Heatwave Lip Oil Grapefruit Review

I’d been hearing a lot about the Clarins Lip Oils and on the day I purchased this I was actually heading to Clarins to check them out. Had it not have been for two rather rude assistants I probably would have been in the mood to buy one – but I walked away annoyed into Kiko. Where they had the Lip Oils from their newest collection at a fraction of the price as what it would have been in Clarins.

The Heatwave Lip Oils are stunningly packaged, as is everything else in their summer Wanderlust collection. The Lip Oils come in three different scents – now when I bought this I had the heavy cold so this may not be the case, but the Coconut and Vanilla scents were totally undetectable to me, but the Grapefruit one is much more strongly scented in comparison.

Whilst all three are slightly different in their tinged colour, swatching on my hands showed that they were all infact clear when applied. This is my first lip oil, so I’m not sure if this is a trait between them all, or just this one – but the formula seems quite thin, I was expecting it to be thicker and this is where the disappointment started for me.

The thin texture whilst oily feels non greasy and adds a shine to the lips, however it’s just a little too thin to be something you can get away with applying every few hours, within 15-30 minutes (depending on how much chatting I do) I find that it’s completely gone. Add to that I don’t find that despite having to top it up basically constantly that it’s actually making my lips any softer as I expected.

I know I’m not the only one who hasn’t loved these as I’ve seen a review by Traci-Ann Loves who also found very similar products, but when I was reminding myself of the other scent ways on Kiko’s website, they are reviewed pretty well on their website. Luckily these aren’t as expensive as Clarins at £10.90 but they are a bit too expensive in my view for the effects that it gives.

I’m attempting to use this up at night time, with a layer over the top of my constant night lip treatment of Nuxe’s Reve De Miel lip balm, as when I’m going to sleep I won’t be doing any talking as soon as my head hits the pillow and hopefully it stays on slightly longer than it does in the daytime for me.

Answers in the comments please as to what the Clarins’ ones (or any other lip oils) are like and whether I should be thinking of purchasing one still or whether it’s a product which does infact require touchups on a very frequent basis, if so then these lip oils just won’t be for me!

I have clarins oil with honey-wouldn’t change it! It’s quite rich and thick but soaks into lips and makes them soft for hours. I bought it in winter when my lips were really dry and painful. It doesn’t shine when it soaks in but well it’s not a lip gloss.

I’ve been looking at the Clarins Lip Oils, too – my lips have been quite peely of late, no idea why! So sorry the Clarins SAs were being annoying 🙁 I also avoid buying when SAs are rude.

Shame about the Kiko lip oils not being that great, but on the positive side, they definitely look gorgeous.

    • No I’d rather not have a conversation with some stuck up woman – especially given they work on commission here, don’t want to give people like that my money here! Yes bittersweet product looks gorgeous so clearly can’t throw it, just does nothing!
My lips have been drier than they’ve ever been this winter, seem like I’m coming out the otherside now we’re in a heatwave here!

The packaging is so beautiful…such a shame. 😢 Let me do know if you try the Clarins ones as I would be really interested in a comparison! 😊🌞

The packaging is amazing! Looks so high end. Too bad the Kiko is so thin. I do have the Clarins one and why I like it is that the formula is thicker to coat the lips and lasts fairly well. It smells like honey. 🙂 The only annoying thing is the wand is kinda fat so it’s a struggle getting it out of the tube and I end flicking product everywhere if I’m not super careful.
Sucks the SA’s were rude to you at Clarins – story time?

    • Meh, there’s not too much to the story really they were chatting or gossiping to each other whilst I was patiently waiting for a few minutes before they turned and faced the other way and continued to ignore me when I said excuse me. Normally I’d probably say something but it was when I had flu and really could not be bothered to chat to them!
