My Little Box May 2016 – Dolce Vita – Review & Unboxing

If you saw my review and unboxing of the Look Incredible box yesterday, you’ll have seen that I said this month’ My Little Box was going to be my last for now. But things might have changed, the arrival of this box has instantly changed my opinion!

After a little short of 2 years being solidly subscribed to the service I’ve not been happy with the boxes since about Christmas time, from their Facebook page it didn’t seem like I was the only one getting increasingly frustrated by a bombardment of creams month after month which will take me a long time to use up. To be fair, it seemed like My Little Box had taken note, they sent out surveys asking about people’s past favourite boxes, what products they liked to receive so they could start making changes – I just didn’t think I would see the changes come as quickly. Hopefully it’s not a one off and they’ll continue to be as good as this one going forward.

May 2016’s My Little Box saw a theme of Dolce Vita – themed on italian glamour and there’s actually not one piece in the whole box that I’m not excited to use or try. I must say, I think the designs on the boxes have been getting better and better month on month – and I think this new style might be my favourite design yet with a scene of an uber glam goddess roaming through Rome (get it?!).

Within the box we welcome back the print, which is good as it’s made a disappearance for the past couple of months, and with stash of them that I’m one day going to frame. As well as the usual My Little World magazine filled with tutorials, recipes, interviews and ideas.

The lifestyle items this month are especially nice I think, first up was a pretty little gold ring which typically only seems to fit on my engagement finger, I’ll have to see if I can stretch it out or tighten it a little, but I do like this design and will be wearing it providing I can get it to fit another finger… I don’t think Ben will take kindly to me taking mine off!

Next up was a hair turban/fabric hair band with a few different ways suggested of how to wear this. This is a pretty colour and pattern for spring and summer and I’ve already worn this around a bun after unboxing it this evening whilst walking the dog. If nothing else, I’ll get use of it as a headband to keep my hair out of the way whilst doing my makeup.

Onto the bag of beauty goodies!

The first item I pulled out this month was the My Little Beauty Item, this is a gel moisturiser which is described as being illuminating for legs. A quick test on my hand shows that this gives the skin a slight healthy shine without verging into being a shimmer or a glitter, which I just don’t like. The scent of this is lovely, it has a sherbet type scent which reminds me a lot of the Body Sorbet from one of last years boxes which I adored. Fingers crossed this is as good! Listed at £8 this seems pretty good value for money as a little of this seems to go a long way, although at 5’11” I have a lot of legs to moisturise!

The next item that I pulled out was a Baija Body Oil, I’d never heard of Baija until a previous My Little Box where I received a solid stick perfume, I was less than keen on the scent of that as it was a bit spicy for my taste, but this smells gorgeous. I’m not a Body Oil wearer usually but I’ll certainly be making an exception for this. It’s described as having notes of Jasmine and Green Tea – it’s a fresh and light floral scent which clearly completely makes sense. This sample is 60% of the size of the full size product, with a full size value of 16.90 Euros.

Last but not least in this box is another product which smells just as good as the others, A perfume vial that’s bigger than what you’d normally expect to receive in a beauty box, whilst still being smaller than most rollerballs at 8.5ml. This comes from a brand that I’ve not come across before this is the Courrenges La Fille De L’Air Perfume, I must say first impressions were good as I really like the pastel blue cloud design paired with neon orange! The scent of this is a listed as notes of bergamot and orange blossom, normally I’m not fond of Bergamot but there’s something about this that I do like and is perfect for spring. At 69Euros for 50ml, this sample is worth just short of £10.

I’m giving it another month, I can’t bring myself to unsubscribe if things are back on the up – if things go downhill again next month, I’ll probably cancel and keep an eye on each box to see whether things pick up again.

Hello! I must say some of the boxes were not as good as they used to be, as it seems to me they have been cutting the accessories, however, I always love masks and creams. I do love my little box and do expect it every month with so much excitement. 🙂 Lovely post.

    • I think the quality of the accessories have been questionable for about 6 months, the ones this month are up there with the best in my opinion though. I do love a good mask or cream, but I think I counted last month and out of the last 6 months of boxes over half the products were creams, I can’t get through them quick enough to be excited about a new one arriving, it just gets added to the pile!

I saw on another blog that listed the Baija Body Oil as one of her favourites items in all the boxes she’s received lately. So that’s a good thing.
And that’s a good sized perfume “sample”… that’s like the size of the roller balls they sell at Sephora for $30 a pop! 😛
Could you not wear that ring on your right hand instead?

    • Apparantly my fingers are different sizes on each hand, it’s no where close to fitting on my right hand! Yeah agreed it’s a nice product, will definitely keep me going in my bag for a little while!

Yes my right hand is bigger than my left too – I think that’s normal depending on your dominant hand. I thought the ring was adjustable?

That turban/head wrap sounds super cute! I might need to see if I can get my hands on something like it. Can you send me pictures of it on fb so I can get a better idea of what it looks like?

I was waiting for your post~~~ You are 5ft11″!!! I am so jealous. Ja, I also don’t use body oil, it does smell great though. I got the same items as you. I didn’t like my box 🙁 I will also consider unsubscribing if I don’t like my next box.

    • Oh man! This box was a winner for me, or atleast better than my last 5 or 6! Yeah I’m not holding my breath that it’s got me back but I’ll give it another shot as I didn’t mind this one!

This month’s box is a winner: such great products. The ring is lovely and all the other bits and bobs look and sound great as well. let’s hope it is an upwards trajectory from here.
