Kat Von D Tattoo Liner Review

Kat Von D Tattoo Liner

I wasn’t really planning on getting the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner when I visited New York, one of my friends asked me to pick her one of these up to try, and I thought – If I get home and she’s telling me how good it is, I’m really going to kick myself as to why I didn’t get one for myself.

Kat Von D’s line so far has had me really impressed. I’ve tried out the Lolita liquid lipstick (review here) and the Lock It foundation still yet to be reviewed! I really love both. This one I held off a few weeks as I was trying to finish up Schwing from theBalm, which I love – but seriously that badboy seems to keep going and going and it’s showing no signs of giving up the ghost and I bought it in November and it’s been used pretty much everyday

My camera couldn’t pick this up but the nib at a glance has you fooled it looks like a lovely narrow tapered felt tip, but infact the nib is made up of soft, flexible bristles – for the first week I didn’t realise it wasn’t actually a felt tip. The nib on this means the product applies really nicely, it glides on the eye really easily.

Where it lets itself down for me is that the pigmentation from the offset is rubbish, you can see from my hand below that it’s just not super black. My friend, said to keep going with this as after a few weeks it seems to find it’s groove and at that point it’s much better. Whether I’ve still not got into the product enough, but almost 3 weeks on of using it most days it only seems to have got mildly better.

This continues to disappoint me unfortunately, this doesn’t apply very pigmented and I have to go over the line at least 3 times to give me a non patchy line. I find that this is prone to smudging on me, no other liquid or gel liner creases on me at all, but after an hour I can see that this has transferred into the crease. Add to that after 3 hours this has pretty much all but worn off my eyes, or looks like I’ve been wearing it for at least 12 hours for it to look the state that it does.

Whilst I don’t like this at all, and do not think it’s worth any where near the $17 I paid for it – My friend adores this! When I’ve placed my online Sephora order from  the haul that went up yesterday, I asked if she wanted me to pick her up another one and she said yes. So whilst it really isn’t working for me at all, it clearly is working for others. Overall, personally I much prefer theBalm’s Schwing over this, it’s got better pigmentation, it’s longer lasting, smudge proof and it’s way more of a matte black – it blows this out of the water in my opinion, add to that its cheaper too. I will keep trying with this, I’m desperate not to just bin it and let it go to waste, if it does eventually find it’s groove and get better, I’ll do an update, but for now I’d say leave this.

If you’re thinking of picking this up and don’t have to go out of your way to get it then I’d wouldn’t not recommend trying this out, this certainly doesn’t have the tattoo effect that I was hoping for, but I seem to be in a minority of dislikers.  If you’re on the fence, or have to place an annoying online order with customs charges like me that will take this somewhere to the region of £19 (including delivery shared between the two of us!) then I personally think there’s better eye liners out there.

Have you tried the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner?

I’ve just discovered a uk store that seems to have imported them called roses beauty store which I’ve seen loads of people recommend online… Might be worth checking. Think they’re a bit more than us but no taxes or expensive shipping on top might make it better 🙂

Do you know if roses beauty store are good? I’ve been debating orderinh from the site for a while x

I’ve seen it recommended a few times on beauty blogger Facebook groups but I haven’t actually ordered from there myself yet, when I need to repurchase the KVD foundation I’ll definitely be trying it out.

Yikes, I just bought this during the Sephora VIB sale due to the rave reviews online… hope I have better luck with it 😮

Oh no, that’s so unfortunate this didn’t work for you. I know it’s raved by many! I was curious about it myself but I think I’ll just stick to my Japanese ones, they’re always solid. I much prefer actual bristle pen nib over a felt tip – I find the felt tip to drag and disturb my eye makeup. Do you have Physicians Formula over there? Their pen liner is one of my favourites:

No we don’t it’s been rumoured for about 2 or 3 years now that it’s finally coming, but still nothing! It’s so strange I was talking to my friend about it and she said she’d had a full on crying meltdown in it the day before and it didn’t budge, yet it doesn’t even last on me properly for 2 hours before it looks shocking! TheBalm’s is the one to beat for me now!

I’ve heard a few people say the same about this eyeliner. 🙁 I love The Balm Schwing too! And have just discovered an eyeliner felt tip by KIKO…part of their new collection which is awesome. I definitely think I’ll give the KVD one a miss. Thanks for a thorough, honest review.x

I tried this last year because of the rave reviews and I was disappointed as well. It dragged when I went to apply it and I didn’t find it pigmented enough at all. Glad to know I’m not alone in not liking it! 😊

One thing that annoys me when I’ve swatched a dark black eyeliner that seemed good and then it loses pigmentation and you have to go over it to make it black, this has happened to me a lot but the one eyeliner that is still up there for no 1 is the Stila stay all day liquid eyeliner pen you should try this 🙂

It looks very similar to K Palette 24 ht tattoo. Even the felt tip. Difference is, literally stays for many, many hours without fading. Kat Von D is generally a good brand. I like their liquid matt lippie

Sorry. I said felt tip.. I have another one that has felt tip but K Palette applicator is a brush. It’s soft enough for smooth application.

You should try the Stila one, so much better!!!

I can see in your photos, the formula bleeds a bit when it’s wet. That drives me insane! OMG… when I put it on and then a minute later it’s in 3 other places I didn’t put it? And now I’m touching up my light lavender shadow. I just want to die! It’s like Q-Tip surgery happening on those days. Mine fades just like you experienced. It’s literally charcoal gray by the time I check it at lunch. Of course, I take my pen and touch it up but there’s always the risk of screwing it up royally when you mess with those wings.
